2007... Tried ON micronized creatine powder (300 grams)
-Didn't load w/ 20g per day, instead started w/10g a day, then 5g day maintenance.
-Ate clean, plenty of protein, but not enough calories.
-Didn't feel anything really, no substantial gains.

2008... Tried CL Green Mag (Took it for 60 days)
-Took 5g a day.
-Ate a cleaner diet, plenty of protein (but again, not enough calories).
-Seemed like it felt better than the ON Micronized, but that could have been due to a dietary or routine change. (After 6 mos gained 5-6lbs lean muscle, went from roughly 11%+ body fat down to below 8%. Def gained strength, maybe a little extra energy, although I did recover faster. Kinda tough to attribute it ALL to the Green Mag, but it seemed to help more than the ON micronized.)

2011....?

-Looking for a new creatine product to try. Wanted to try Gaspari SizeOn, but that got discontinued, and I've heard mixed reviews on "Max Performance" & "SuperPump".
-Adjusting diet so I can eat MOAR!

Is Creapure really the much better than plane creatine monohydrate? BB.com is selling 1000 grams of Creapure for $30 and 1000 grams of plane creatine monohydrate for $16. Would spending the extra $14 on Creapure be worth it?

I haven't tried the GreenMag yet, but I am in love with their WhiteFlood. Raspberry flavor is so yummy! I was looking here to help decide which kind of Creatine would be best, as I'm super concerned with Bloat.

I think I'll try either the GreenMag (I love CL stuff), or I've been looking at Kre-Alkalyn.

As far as form, would you suggest pill or powder?

So pretty much if im already taking my joint/multi + preworkout(jack3d)..i can just stack with a generic creatine mono that is cost efficient like the 2000g of Optimum Micro / 1000g Integrated Supp? Or would I benefit more from something like Green Mag / Con-Cret? Any insight would be nice, thanks in advance.

Agreed. I've taken it before and had great result just wondering if its a necessity or can I achieve the same result using the other 2 I mentioned.

Also could someone explain to me if Creatine Mono is the staple and proven most efficient and the niche creatines are not as good, why is Green Mag rated so highly with no Mono and only Magnesium Creatine Chelate? Not hating...I myself love the GM, just looking to learn.

I like to mix my creatine up every month. I've tried Cell Tech, Cell Mass, Green Mag, EAS Push, and Nutrex VoluGro. Next on my list are Kre-Alkalyn, Micronized Creatine Mono, and Con-Crete.

Of all the creatines I've tried so far, I would have to say Cell Mass has been my favorite.

They say that there is no hard evidence that these niche creatines are better than Mono, but in my opinion the only thing that matters is what works best for you because everyone's body is different.

For the Mono, is 10g or 5g maintenance? Also, do you have to cycle off of the mono so you don't stop naturally producing it?

Reason I ask is that I swung into a Complete Nutrition store to see what they have to offer and the lil minion guy started preaching to me about the negatives of mono vs. kre alk. I am currently taking 5g of mono per day and am wondering now if I should cycle off of it so I don't mess up my bodies natural production.

The guy talking nonsense, Creatine is shown to be safe for long term usage.Kre-Alkalyn is basically creatine + baking soda and there are studies that disprove Kre-Alkalyn's effectiveness. Creatine Mono + some dextrose imho beats any other type of Creatine.

They stack great together!

Jack3d contains creatine mono, so depending on how many scoops of that you take would depend on how much extra creatine you want to put in your shake.

I'm currently using both those products, so I put 2.5g of creatine in with 2 scoops of Jack3d pre w/o and 5g creatine in my post w/o protein shake. Works a treat! ;)https://www.fitnessphreaks.info/workout/ upload/34/b/happy.gifhttps

Would jack3d and creatine mono be a better combo than just straight kre-alkalyn? I've been using just that and find it works alright, but I suppose some guys on here say it's not that good?

Mesomorph is the best pre-workout creatine out there in my opinion. It gives you a tingling sensation on your face and arms once it starts to hit you. It's like a slap in the face to wake you up before you train. The performance and pumps I get from it are pretty damn good. And the Watermelon flavor doesn't even taste like the crap you would expect from a pre-workout. It tastes more like Gatorade. I haven't taken any pre-workouts that have topped Mesomorph. If anyone knows of any let me know ASAP!

Love concret...pineapple is sooo tasty, main reason people like PuZo generally hate on concret is the pricey pricetag, but it's definitely worked for me in terms of getting rid of excess water weight that sizeon precontest and green mag gave me. Integrated Supplements:100% Creapure Creatine Monohydrate

Hands down the best creatine out there! It's the purist and most effective. You can ask anyone whos tried the stuff. While the regular creatine mono is good and effective its def not as effective as this stuff. It's not 100% creatine, like creapure. I've gained a solid 5-7 pounds each time I've taken creapure. I've seen solid gains in the gym each time I've taken the stuff. I believe that creatines that have more than one type are most effective, but most of those products have creapure and not mono in them.

I started an intense WO plan about a month ago and I'm just starting to feel the tiredness and lethargy. Been doing it with no supps, not even a protein shake, and i think it's time to start adding supps into my workout as lifting is getting harder - this week i wasn't able to complete sets i could do two weeks ago through pure muscle tiredness.

so, i want to try creatine and any other supp that could help, any suggestions from the experts on here.

a good creatine for a newbie and any other supp. suggestions for recovery and to help build muscle (im aiming for functional strength not sheer muscle mass as I'm going back to fighting in a few weeks).

BSCs Micronised Creatine Monohydrate; Simple, straight to the point. Creatine is creatine.

I've had very little luck with most creatines, except one. As much as I hate to admit it, MuscleTech's CellTech Hardcore worked really well for me. It's definetly pricey, but my bench was going up 5-10 lbs a week in the first three weeks. I can't say how well it works over a long period, or how much of the gains you keep when you get off, cuz I recently broke my humerus in 5 spots so my lifting is done for a while. But, when I'm healthy again I'll be back on it.

i have to agree, i have tried pure creatine monohydrate, ive tried cell mass, but i have tried cell tech twice and always obtained the fastest and greatest results.

Gotta say I like cell-tech hardcore the best. I've taken sizeon, cellmass and ON's regular old creatine powder and I gained 5 solid pounds off of the cell-tech, and my strength increased about ten pounds on curls and bench and I went up about 50 on my legs. It definitely works better than all the others I've had. And, I kept that 5 pounds after I cycled off. I have a lot of trouble putting on weight so this was awesome for me.

CON-CRET for sure. It's easy to mix in with my pre-workout NO XPLODE and I only have to take it once a day. The creatine in CON-CRET is also more pure than most monohydrate formulas so it is also more effective. I love it

after increasing creatine intake from 5g on training days to 5g every day + 5g post workout with shake . also added in superpump 250 and ive only noticed a boost in strength from the superpump and nothing from the creatine i have ..

i probably wont be buying maxx essentials creatine monohydrate again .. i dont feel it has done much for me in the last 30-40 days .

what products should i be looking at instead to try ? https://fitnessgalore.info/fitness/upload/34/b/happy.gif

only going 5g non training days and 10g on training days of creatine intake ? anyone have suggestions ?

I feel like creatine mono is creatine mono, regardless of the brand. You didn't notice much from it? Creatine for me usually gives me 3-5lbs gain quickly and then i keep the gain and a bit more strength throughout the duration of using it.

What I do is concrete on empty stomach at 7:00 am and then a scoop of whey at 7:30 with yohimbine and l carnitine and lift around 8:00 am.

Is this ok?

I think you are supposed to take yohibine twice a day. Check the label. Make sure you arnt taking anything else such as your multipack or anyother amino acid supp so your not gettin too much l-carnitine.

Do I really need to go through the loading phase if I just purely want endurance during my training?

Guidelines form On's creatine:

Creatine Loading: Take 1 rounded teaspoon of Micronized Creatine Powder with morning, afternoon, and evening meals and 1 additional rounded teaspoon before going to bed for 4-5 days to help saturate your muscles with creatine.

Creatine Maintenance: Take 1 rounded teaspoon of Micronized Creatine Powder with a meal or immediately after training with your post workout protein shake. TIP: Drink at least eight glasses of water daily when supplementing with creatine. Consuming simple carbohydrates with creatine may help improve overall effectiveness.

This thread is about overall creatine product, the best on the market would be one of a handful of supplements.

Size On as an intra/creatine product

assault for the daily dose of creatine in it as a pre-workout

ON's hydrobuilder as a protein powder+daily dose of creatine

As you can see there's a handful of products to whatever suits your needs.

as you can see if you just use one of these three products everyday you'd have your daily dose of creatine, personally I'm happy with my intrabolic+creatine RT(love the flavoring and the profile) stack thus far and I'm seeing results with it but I would like to try out size on's pre contest for a change.

I've used various creatines over the years like Size On by Gaspari, CE2 Platinum by MRI, Creatine 2500 by Optimum Nutrition, and CreatineX3 Elite by Six Star. The best one though is Met-Rx's Creatine 2400. It's super cheap and it's a straight forward creatine monohydrate product with no fluff or bullsh*t. If you search Google you can find 240ct bottles for ~7 bucks. Nothing beats it.

Creatine monohydrate in sufficient amounts (20-30 g/day dep. on bw) when sufficiently hydrated is the only analytical, logically founded choice.

Ok so let me get this straight, "creatinine" is essentially the term used for when creatine (combining with your stomach acids) becomes a toxin in your system, correct? And when that toxin induces itself, this is when you start to experiece side effects.......? Is that assessment fairly accurate, or no?

Creatinine is naturally produced in your body from the breakdown of waste products from skeletal muscles, not necessarily the excess intake from outside sources but could be from ATP synthesis among other things. Creatinine has to be filtered and urinated out to keep the blood from circulating impurities. Increased levels of creatinine is a clear indicator of renal dysfunction or even glomerular breakdown that could cause even more complications.

Hi All,

Great stuff on best creatines! I was going to say creatine monohydrate is obviously the clear winner with literally hundreds of times more successful published research studies than any other creatine and is entirely safe. I was also going to say that Cell-Tech (and actually Mutant Cre-X12) are the best for people who have trouble gaining weight and for creatine "non-responders" (In the spirit of full disclosure, I worked in R & D for MuscleTech from 1996 to 2003 but Cell-Tech had already been formulated by then). Glad to hear people had already said so...

Pittjoe33 made a very important contribution by pointing out the studies that show creatine monohydrate is actually MORE stable than CEE or Kre-Alkalyn. Most people haven't seen these studies.

MORE importantly, alternative forms of creatine are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist!! Everyone talks about creatine "absorption", well, creatine monohydrate is absorbed virtually 100% from the gut into the blood. Once it is in the blood, the form of creatine makes no difference to the uptake by the muscles! Secondly, there is the misleading implication by some companies that creatine monohydrate breaks down into creatinine quickly - in fact, it takes DAYS for even a small amount to convert into creatinine when left in water and it doesn't happen to any important extent in the gut either (as Dr Tallon's research above correctly demonstrates - I know Dr Tallon and he's a very intelligent and experienced sports nutrition scientist).

Further on the creatinine point, Raw Dawg King was asking if creatine converting into creatinine is toxic and if that will cause side effects. The answer is "no", creatinine is a molecule that the body can readily metabolize and excrete and it is not toxic, just useless waste product really.

There are also the "cramping", "bloating" and "water retention" myths. I've written about this before in some of the bodybuilding magazines and online. Of the studies done on cramping, none showed increased risk of cramping with creatine and one study showed that versus placebo, creatine users actually had LESS cramping when they exercised in the heat. When I talked to some of the world's most experienced creatine researchers (guys who have studied creatine for 20 years and have done muscle biopsies to examine exactly what happens to creatine when it is consumed), they confirmed my belief that creatine DOES NOT increase water retention or bloating under the skin and so won't "make you look soft" or any such thing.

So I know I went a little beyond the topic here but it's all in the interest of getting the most accurate information out to creatine users.

how often do i stay on creatine? like one month on one month off? what do you do?

Hi HockeyPro90,

There is actually no logical reason to come off creatine. Creatine safety is no longer an issue with the sheer number of studies, creatine users and expert safety reviews supporting it. Secondly, the question of whether using creatine has a negative effect on your body's ability to produce or store creatine has been answered - Specific research has established that creatine supplementation does NOT cause down-regulation of the creatine transporter (called the "CreaT"). So why come off when this will only result in loss of lean mass and strength?

I have heard everything from bloat this no bloat that. 5 gs this vs 1 gram that.......it doesn't even exist........it doesn't work..........Just for sensataive people........yadda yadda yadda

I am pretty attracted to microinonzed mono and somewhat to CEE as it is cheap. around .10 a serving or .15 a serving respectivly. I have no previous creatine expierence. Can't say how i respond to bloating, stomach or water retention.

any tips on all my very NOT conclusive research

Secondly, there is the misleading implication by some companies that creatine monohydrate breaks down into creatinine quickly - in fact, it takes DAYS for even a small amount to convert into creatinine when left in water and it doesn't happen to any important extent in the gut either (as Dr Tallon's research above correctly demonstrates - I know Dr Tallon and he's a very intelligent and experienced sports nutrition scientist). https://fitnessgalore.info/fitness/upload/34/b/happy.gif

I really don't want to lose my tone, and I don't want to have a lot of water retention like I've heard what most creatines do. So im asking which one I should get to get the results with out losing my definition. I feel like that is not really to possible with out having some water retention. So is creatine even a good option for me? I really want to get the gains that creatine gives, so would gnc mono creatine be a good option? I'm so confused when it comes to creatine. Tried this for 2 bottles (because it was on offer at the time, and also recommended by a friend) and to be honest I don't think it made a difference at all! I'm currently not using creatine at the moment and I'm still seeing better results than I did on Creakic!

All american EFX Kre-Alkalyn creatine
- It doesnt require loading to get into your system take it an hour to an hour and a haf before your workout and its ready to go!
- I have takin many other mono-hydrate creatines and alot of them make me bloat. That being said I can take it all the way up to the day of a contest and not freak my body out by cycleing off mono-hydrate creatine
- Compared to other creatines its extremely affordable
- You dont get non-needed calories like some other creatine supplements that contain up to 200-300 callories in sugar for creatine loading and absorbtion.
- you can purchase it with or without Caffeine it just depends on what you like better
-noticed streangth gains when I went from taking mono-hydrate to taking kre-alklyn creatine and the gains havent stoped and I have been losing body fat for a contest

You're 18 and testosterone levels should be decently high naturally. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day; eat 6 small, lean meals per day. Continue your protein between meals. Maybe add casein protein for evening, as is slow digesting. Want to add size, then mix up exercises to confuse muscles and do 4-6 practice sets of 8-12 reps, then do 1-2 work sets with heavier weight where you only get1-3 reps.

I agree. He doesn't need to take anything to increase testosterone, else it could be counterproductive by ruining his natural ability to produce. Until you're older or diagnosed with low testosterone you should not toy with that aspect.

I am currently using the GNC creatine mono and I have used the Optimum Nutrition creatine mono... Both are cheap, Both are quite effective, and both dissolve well in water... And for those who say that it doesn't than just do the trick that i do. I just put the teaspoon (5g) of creatine powder right into my mouth and then pour water in and swish until it is dissolved (5 sec.) and then swallow. Therefore you arn't wasting any leaving it behind as sediment in the cup. Overall havn't notice much diff. between the two, just know I get a lot more reps while on it!!

Hope that helps

I have been using all of the CEE and Kre-Alklyn products and found this article on Muscle and Fitness forums. It dissapointed me. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Creatine ethyl ester rapidly degrades to creatinine in stomach acid

Child R1 and Tallon MJ2

1Department of Life Sciences, Kingston University, Penrhyn Rd, Kingston-upon-Thames, United Kingdom. 2University of Northumbria, Sport Sciences, Northumbria University, Northumberland Building, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, DrChild@CR-Technologies.net

Creatine ethyl ester (CEE) is a commercially available synthetic creatine that is now widely used in dietary supplements. It comprises of creatine with an ethyl group attached and this molecular configuration is reported to provide several advantages over creatine monohydrate (CM). The Medical Research Institute (CA, USA) claim that the CEE in their product (CE2) provides greater solubility in lipids, leading to improved absorption. Similarly San (San Corporation, CA, USA) claim that the CEE in their product (San CM2 Alpha) avoids the breakdown of creatine to creatinine in stomach acids. Ultimately it is claimed that CEE products provide greater absorption and efficacy than CM. To date, none of these claims have been evaluated by an independent, or university laboratory and no comparative data are available on CEE and CM.

This study assessed the availability of creatine from three commercial creatine products during degradation in acidic conditions similar to those that occur in the stomach. They comprised of two products containing CEE (San CM2 Alpha and CE2) and commercially available CM (Creapure?). An independent laboratory, using testing guidelines recommended by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), performed the analysis. Each product was incubated in 900ml of pH 1 HCL at 37? 1oC and samples where drawn at 5, 30 and 120 minutes. Creatine availability was assessed by immediately assaying for free creatine, CEE and the creatine breakdown product creatinine, using HPLC (UV)

After 30 minutes incubation only 73% of the initial CEE present was available from CE2, while the amount of CEE available from San CM2 Alpha was even lower at only 62%. In contrast, more than 99% of the creatine remained available from the CM product. These reductions in CEE availability were accompanied by substantial creatinine formation, without the appearance of free creatine. After 120minutes incubation 72% of the CEE was available from CE2 with only 11% available from San CM2 Alpha, while more than 99% of the creatine remained available from CM.

CEE is claimed to provide several advantages over CM because of increased solubility and stability. In practice, the addition of the ethyl group to creatine actually reduces acid stability and accelerates its breakdown to creatinine. This substantially reduces creatine availability in its esterified form and as a consequence creatines such as San CM2 and CE2 are inferior to CM as a source of free creatine.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Kre-alkalyn? supplementation has no beneficial effect on creatine-to-creatinine conversion rates.

Tallon MJ1 and Child R2

1University of Northumbria, Sport Sciences, Northumbria University, Northumberland Building, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, 2Department of Life Sciences, Kingston University, Penrhyn Rd, Kingston-upon-Thames, United Kingdom. DrTallon@CR-Technologies.net

All American Pharmaceutical and Natural Foods Corp. (Billings, MT, USA) claim that Kre-alkalyn? (KA) a ?Buffered? creatine, is 100% stable in stomach acid and does not convert to creatinine. In contrast, they also claim that creatine monohydrate (CM) is highly pH labile with more than 90% of the creatine converting to the degradation product creatinine in stomach acids. To date, no independent or university laboratory has evaluated the stability of KA in stomach acids, assessed its possible conversion to creatinine, or made direct comparisons of acid stability with CM.

This study examined whether KA supplementation reduced the rate of creatine conversion to creatinine, relative to commercially available CM (Creapure?). Creatine products were analyzed by an independent commercial laboratory using testing guidelines recommended by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Each product was incubated in 900ml of pH 1 HCL at 37? 1oC and samples where drawn at 5, 30 and 120 minutes and immediately analyzed by HPLC (UV) for creatine and creatinine.

In contrast to the claims of All American Pharmaceutical and Natural Foods Corp., the rate of creatinine formation from CM was found to be less than 1% of the initial dose, demonstrating that CM is extremely stable under acidic conditions that replicate those of the stomach. This study also showed that KA supplementation actually resulted in 35% greater conversion of creatine to creatinine than CM. In conclusion the conversion of creatine to creatinine is not a limitation in the delivery of creatine from CM and KA is less stable than CM in the acid conditions of the stomach.
I agree competly I was very disappointed with KA I spent 80$ on a bottle CX-5 at complete nutrition( was supposed to get 50% off but when I got to the counter somehow the casheer missed that cupon imagine that and with the other sups I got I hadn't realized that I over paid till it was to late). I saw very little gains with this product. I later found a study that showed that KA sups have been *proven* in a double blind study to increase muscle gains 28.9% more than it's monohydrate counter parts but the subjects in the trials had supposedly taken 5x the recconended dossage. For us non sponsored folks that would mean 5 bottles at 80$ a piece per month ,ummm no thanks. I'll keep my Creature Creatine 30$ for a months supply. You can find the results of the KA vs Monohydrate pretty easily on the forums now under the creatine section ( I would post a link but im on my iPod touch , posting this was a feit in its own).Happy Lifting!

Just my opinion, but isn't that the point? It is supposed to help you have more energy in your muscle, leading to more reps. If you take it on off days too, you have a steady re-saturation of the muscle fibers.

Creatine monohydrate is the best creatine made, not my opinion just a simple fact, I take Six Star Nutrition Creatine x3 and love the taste and has helped me a ton so far, I mix mine right along with my protein.

There are studies out there that compare creatine monohydrate gram for gram against another form of creatine and the other form out perform it at equal and lower doses. Sorry to be so vague but it is something I am working on. Creatine pretty much works period. If you are looking at a formula then you need to decide which additional ingredients in the formula are best for your needs. A lot of products have simply too much filler BS ingredients and are not doses properly.
