What if i had 3 small meals a day instead of 6 will this slow down my progress of losing fat? I can't do 6 because i have school and have 7 peroid classes and do not have time to have 6 meals..

NO! Less calories at infrequent times = slowed metabolism and hardly any weight loss. You're gonna have to eat 6 or more times a day and all the meals have to be quality in order to keep your metabolism working at full gear.

Actually if you are really overweight simply reducing calories will lead so fat loss. Unfortunately you will also loose muscle mass.

The difference between 3 and 6 meals is huge. Use sandwiches, potein bars/shakes, fruit etc.. between meals if necessary.

The Fact is the most people who are overweight, DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MUSCLE LOSS, you dont have any to really worry about losing, your muscles are probably just about as small as there gonna get, just think about it if your fat, YOU AINT BEEN DOING ****, so that means your muscles are already small so it doesnt matter go ahead and cut calories and try to lose 3-4lbs per week but yea 6 meals/day would be closer to optimal to keep your metabolism as high as you can to burn, but seriously you can just eat and as long as you burn more in a day then you ate you'll be fine and lose weight!

What?

Fat people got a lot of muscle. They need muscle to support their fat asses.

Average 250 pounder has more muscle than average 170 pounder. or 200.

Usually fatter they are, the more muscle they got. So, fat people DO have to worry about muscle loss, or they'll just be "skinny" fat. Meaning, mini versions of their old selves.

no that's wrong, sure they do have enough muscle to move themselves around obviously they must to be able to move at all but to take the time to lose 1-2 lbs/ week to save that INSIGNIFICANT amount of muscle is POINTLESS It would take someone with say 100 lbs 1-2 years to lose all the weight they had and preserve the stupid amount of muscle they had before, while they could just lose 3-4lbs/week and be done in 5-8 months and use the rest of the 4 months -1.2 years to build up muscle WHICH would you prefer...I mean **** you can build up quite a good body in 1.2 years not competition grade but still pretty damn good.

You are assuming that because a person is overweight they are also inactive, which isnt necessarily the case

no, but its almost always the case that someone who starts out very fat has way less muscle than they like to think they do

LOL !!

Most people who work have an even harder time fitting in 6 meals - I mean we actually get paid by the hour and our employers don't wanna pay us while we have our 2nd or 4th meals! I do it by making sandwiches everyday!

Got to love federal mandated 15 minute breaks.

There is a fine line between fat and obese. Fat people need to worry about maintaining muscle mass, obese people need to get the weight off. I know some guys who are close to 300 pounds that I wouldn't call obese, but I also know some 220 pounders that I would.

To go with you nithos, I agree. It shouldn't be a matter of being over weight, should be a matter of being over fat. Would you call Ronnie Coleman overweight...bad example. But someone who is 6'2, 225@ 8% bf would be considered fat if you applied the BMI which is something like Hight in m^2/wight in kilos...SOmething like that... According to that, I am over weight at 6.2 207lbs @ about 16%

Kulex you are so far off. I am considerably overweight... maybe obese I dont know where the line is or whatever, but I am very active and have TONS of muscle that I dont want to lose as I lose fat. There are numerous reasons someone could be fat and still muscular... maybe they just eat way too much and too unhealthy *thats what I did* but still lifted weights, etc.

consider that a "meal" doesn't have to be a 30 minute workout in the kitchen. Find ways to eat quick. I have. Usually, it involves tuna/hard boiled eggs, and a shake. ;)

EDIT: Is it just me, or are we getting a lot of threads like this as of recent? The whole "i'm in highschool and don't have time to eat" type stuff...
