If your going to dish out 200 bucks for your FID bench dish another 20 bucks and get the ironmaster super bench, it holds 1000 lbs in flat and 600 lbs in incline, decline and upright I believe, that should be mroe than enough. It is a good price for a bench like that, when you get more cash you can get the crunch attachment, wheel kit and maybe dip handles, I am ordering mines very soon and am very excited...check out their site:

How much do you weight? I have a Powertec FID Utility Bench I am trying to sell because of the weight limit. When I bought it, they were saying 600lbs. but now they say 500lbs. I go anywhere from 260-290lbs and then rep flat bench at around 250lbs. Add that up. The bench gets a little shakey sometimes. It isn't going over or down but just bugs me.

I never use decline so I am looking at the Bodysolid GFI21.(commercial grade, rated 1000lbs.) The guy at the store showed me a picture of him doing an over 500lbs flat bench.

I decided on the Ironmind Five Star Flat Bench...It's rated at over 4000 pounds so I think I'll be OK for a while lol... It cost 380 with shipping and tax but it's well worth it if you don't mind the fact that it doesn't incline or decline.

I need a new bench. Mine's a Weider that cost about $50 @ Sears a few years back. I do dumbbell presses on it, but would like to get one that is higher rated and better quality soon before it falls apart.

I don't know about the quality, but it's got a decent weight rating and the price is right.

750 lbs weight capacity...

No way to the ratings on that bench. My own body weight plus a pair of 150 lb. dumbells made that bench flex and swap significantly around 525lbs. in all positions.

I would take bench ratings to some extent with a grain of salt. Go by obvious ques like the design and quality and quantity of the materials used over mfg. spec ratings many times. This goes for ANY bench.

I have benched over 350 on my ironmaster bench. No flex, no bend, no rattle, nothing but a nice, stable supportive bench.

Exothermic,

I own a Body-Solid FID weight bench model GFID71 it is rated at 1000 pounds. I really like it. It is very solid and built very strong. Here is a link to it: http://www.fitnessfactory.com/Item.aspx?ItemID=499&ItemLabel=GFID71%3a+Body-Solid+Commercial+Flat%2fIncline%2fDecline+Bench

I have had mine for over 2 years with no problems at all. The only negative thing about it is that it is a very heavy bench. It has wheels on it and you need them when moving it around. I gave about 200 dollars for it on sale just after Christmas. The bench is also commercial rated and comes with a lifetime warranty. I have seen the bench at Play It Again Sports. One last thing my bench color is White the new ones come in Grey.

Good luck,
Brother Steel

Hi Exothermic,

I think what you want is a combination bench with uprights. Something like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/detail.gsp?image=http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/04/36/19/21/0004361921606_500X500.jpg&product_id=5280823&iIndex=1&isVariant=false&corpCard=false&type=0

Most of us guys think of a bench as being separate from some type of upright weight support. Most of us have a Power Rack which we put our bench into to do lifting. A Power Rack looks like this: http://www.fitnessfactory.com/images/Item/489l.jpg

Most of all us guys who have been lifting for sometime will tell you to save your money and buy a good bench and a Power Rack to do any kind of serious lifting. Power Racks allow you to lift heavy without the use of a spotter. You just set the upright safety rods so if you drop the weight you will not be crushed by the barbell. I purchased my Power Rack after I missed my upright going heavy without a spotter on a combination bench and broke my shoulder. (I had been lifting for years before I did this.) I will never train again without the safety a Power Rack affords. You should consider this before you buy a combination bench setup.

If you still whish to purchase a combination bench with uprights built in then you can go to places like Sports Authority, Wal-Mart, Dicks Sporting Goods or Play It Again Sports and find a Combo-bench for around 200 dollars. I would try checking out local yard sells or the classified ads to see if you can find a good used bench for pennies on the dollar. Many people find the Craigslist helpful in finding good equipment at used prices. You just find the city closest to you and look in the sporting section. Here is a link to the Craigslist: http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html

I hope this information has been helpful.
Good luck,
Brother Steel
