View Full Version : Bench press or dumb bell press?

I'm going to buy either a full olimpic size weight bench or just a small flat bench and dumb bells. My chest is what I'm most concerned about building and since I don't have anyone to spot me I though dumb bells would be the way to go. But can you gain just as much size from dumb bell press as you can from bench press?

Also, I saw an ad in a Fitness magazine for these adjustable dumb bells, it was like a stack of weights that you can pick up all at once with a bar in the middle, looked cool, anyone know if these are good?

adjustable dumbells are nice, powerblocks and ironmaster come to mind. Don't work just your chest. That would be ignorant. Either way you go( i think the olympic bench with adjustable dumbells would be best), Use the barbell or dumbells to train your whole body. Your chest won't even grow to its potential unless you train your WHOLE body.

I heard one time that if your not doing squats your not working out. I think that goes a long with what your saying about working your whole body. I beleave the reason for the squats was mainly that working your large mucles put out more testosterone.

GEEEZZZZ Power blocks are $$$$!

For the set I would need it would cost me over $600. I can get a whole bench set and weights for that.

Maybe I will just join a gym

They are pricey, but i guess when you compare that to buying each one seperately it makes a big difference. You could also just buy a bench and also join a gym that way you get best of both worlds. Over time you can add more equipment ot your home gym.
