so now that i'm older, i don't really have acne, just a few scars here and there. but somehow i have alot on my chest from when i was in my teens.
one of my buddys that i workout with is kind of in the same situation. only he has a MASSIVE amount of acne on his back and chest. there mainly all scars. but there really noticable. and kind of revolting.
so anyway. a local competition is coming up. and i've signed up for it along with some of my other friends. but the one with the uncanny amount of acne on his back is really holding back. because he believes that the scars will somehow effect his overall image. so i ask him "so what'd it take to get you to compete?" and he says, when "when i get rid of my damn acne scars"
so i'm asking. what is there he can do? is there some creame or medication he could get to help remove/deminish the scars? anything?
the reason i'm asking is because we've known each other sence 2nd grade. and ever sence then theres been this constant competition between us. its a friendly one. but its enough so that we both push it to the max at whatever were competeting at.

desire i think he was asking more about scarring from acne than acne itself. I have heard that Vitamin D works well to remove scarring, apparently works well on stretch marks too. Ive also heard "Retinol" cream is good. If your friend has the money, you can go to a plastic surgeon and get them removed with a laser (removes freckles aswell! thats just amazing :P) In Australia you can get your whole face done for around $600AUS. Might be more for the back/chest as theyre a larger surface. Just call up a plastic surgeon and find out.

if he has acne, get accutane
if he has scars, then demabrasion, chemical peels, smooth beam laser treatments or other procedures that can only been done by a dermatologist

Trial and error is the only way to find out what medication your friend will need. I've been on all of them and if it's on his back and bad enough to leave scars it sounds like he's heading for Accutane, the nastiest **** ever put on this planet to fight acne. It's probably cheaper to get heroin but it will definitely cure it. Worked for me

If it's cystic acne and as severe as you describe, then perhaps Accutane is in order. He'll need to see a dermatologist to ascertain whether the best treatment is something as strong as Accutane or if antibiotics should be used for the remaining acne.
I have heard the Proactive works great for breakouts that are not cystic acne.
As for the scars, that would require more serious procedures to improve the appearance, but in my opinion, would be well worth it. Here's an article that may help in answering your question:
