Hi all hope all had a wonderful New Year. Here is my problem My Dad has just been diagnosed as terminal and I am flying to him on Saturday I live in Florida he lives in Maryland. Now I was carb cycling and that has since went out the window. No matter how hard I try I cave when I am stressed or upset I eat and I know that its my choice to do that I just dont know how to stop. I am really down on myself again. Any suggestions as to what I can do to curb this? I am afraid that when I get up to my Dad I am going to eat the whole time and come back a huge cow. Any suggestions will be appreciated thanks

Coming from someone that lost her father several years ago.......
I would focus on my father right now.
Don't worry about what you are eating so much. I would gather that you will still be able to eat healthy, maybe just not so controled.
Your Dad needs you right now and you need him. A little weight gain while you comfort each other is ok. Priorities.

I'm so sorry to hear about you father. I really have no advice for your question but can only offer my support. Maybe you can get out to a gym while you are there. Perhaps it might help. Best of luck with everything.

sorry to hear about your father. definately tough, and stressful on other aspects of life.
where in MD will you be? maybe having someone local to train with would help? do you workout with a partner in FL?

I will be in Catonsville Maryland which is near the Inner Harbor. I have a trainer that I train with here in Florida and my husband sometimes.

i'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my father 3 years ago to cancer. He was only 54. I too used food to comfort me trhoughout his sickness (4 years) however i held off and just took out my feelings on my cheat days and b/c of that my cheat days were enormous. Then when he passed away i went in the other direction and exercised nonstop and turned away from food and lost so much weight it was sickly. Now i have found a balance. The important thing is to be there for him but make sure you are healthy for yourself b/c he wants you to be healthy and have a long life. When you crave try calling a friend to talk out problems and feelings, talk to your dad, or go out for a walk. I know it is so hard. My fathers illness was the hardest thing i ever experienced and i still cry b/c i miss him so. It won't be easy but try to keep your heath a priority b/c you are important too.

Thank you for that.... my Dad to is dying from cancer that he has battled for years it started as prostate cancer and spread it through his whole body now and they also found that he has an aortic aneuyrism so he isnt doing well I am going up to set up hospice and get everything in order for him. I do plan to go to the gym up there (I belong to Golds) the gym helps me relieve stress. This is going to be one hard week.

Well i know its not an immediate response but whenever you need to talk just post and i will get back to you as soon as possible. This will be one of the hardest things you ever will go through but you will get through it. Do you have any siblings? How is your mom holding up?

we are only 10 minutes from Catonsville. we have a decent home gym (3 sets of olympic weights, heavy bag, etc) and we both belong to golds gym also.
contact me if you would like to get in a workout or get out for a bit. i dont know how much support you have here in the area. we are both in the medical field and would be happy to help.
the Hospice of the Chesapeake program here is just incredible.
if you choose not too...best of luck. we know how difficult these times can be.
take care.
