Circuit Day

Meal 1: 1 cup oats, 4 egg whites, .75 cup blueberries, green tea, multivitamin, phenogen

Circuit

Meal 2: 1 cup oats, 1 scoop whey, phenogen
Meals 3-6: TBD

Another off day :D Mentally, I need this. It's been rough at work...quite frustrating. Hopefully after this break, I will regain some focus at work and in the gym. I'm also hoping that I can drag my cousin out with me tonight, but we will see.

Barb - Rock hard body? Hmmmm...not yet. And, for the record, he hit on my first! I'm shameless, though...they don't stand a chance!

Pilgrim - I wouldn't say that I've got this one. I'd like to get a nice guy, but I'll just have to wait. Rock climbers are cool...they've NIIIIIIIIICE bodies!!!

Rock climbing is tough - I like the challenge, though. :) I haven't done it in a long time, and only tried a few times on an indoor wall. Did you climb the walls that are pretty much ceiling? MAN! I was so impressed when my husband got to the top.

Cardio - Abs

Meal 1: .5 cup oats, 6 egg whites, .75 cup blueberries, multivitamin

Cardio - Abs

Meal 2: .5 cup oats, 1 scoop whey, .75 cup blueberries
Meals 3 - 6: TBD

I think I am gaining some fat. I have had some emotionally draining days the last few days, so I hope that it's just bloat. All of the food that I have overconsumed has been clean, but still too much nonetheless. I'm going to keep my homemade treats out of the house from now on.

I'm really hating cardio right now. I feel fat and disgusting and like the cardio is doing nothing and that my weight is holding my back from performing cardio well. I am thinking of taking a fat burner. I don't really like the idea of it, but I may do it anyway.

IIIIIIīmmmmmm back. Miss me?

And your below post describes me to the tee right now as well. I have been keeping all food clean, but def. eating more than I should.
For example. Yup, downed the whole freakinījar of pb in one day!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I donīt have any more pb for 6weeks. WTF got me into that??

How was the rock climbing? You could sub. that in for cardio easily. Humm, what about rollerblading or you would really like swimming i am sure (i know, i know, the hair)

YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! I am so glad to see you back! I was starting to wonder when you would come back! :D

Rock climbing was great! I'll be doing that for cardio at least one day out of the week. NOT on Saturdays...they say it gets too crazy on Saturdays. I could go swimming...and I just might.

A whole jar of PB! How did you do that?!?!

Yep, I was all hooked up and the works. It was great! It really brought up my confidence in my strength.

Why does no one wear shorts? That's nuts! I hope that you do get access to that gym. By the time you get back, you'll be squatting 325! What are you going to do about food? Oats and whey the whole time? They have to cook SOMETHING that is plain...

WB- Yea, you don't want to be using many fat burners while bulking...it will effect all that muscle you are trying to gain. So you gained some fat(even though I don't believe you- you look good), but those cals are pretty low for bulking....closer to a cutting diet. You need to make sure you have 2 carbs for every lb of lean body in order to bulk!!! Don't fear the carbies, love 'em!!!! :D haha And just for info....it is actually easier to gain muscle the more fat you have....it's harder to gain the leaner you are.

Krissypoo
05-31-2005, 09:39 AM
I know I know...

Maybe I am not bulking...more like recompositioning. Heck, I have enough fat to lose that it is possible. I just get nervous...and I don't like the way it looks right now. I'm looking fluffier than normal. :) I know that it's probably all in my mind and that I am probably not REALLY that fluffy. I gain fat easily and that is why I am getting nervous. I need to snap out of it!!!

SV...you...jealous of me...yea right!!!! I saw those guns of yours! You are smaller than me and stronger than me...I'm the jealous on! :D I'll use this fat to gain muscle, fuel my workouts, just put this stuff to good use! I'll evaluate today's ratios and work on them, too.

aprilai
05-31-2005, 11:47 AM
i agree with the others - you don't need the fat burners kris!! you look great already. although it IS true that a person with a higher BF will gain more fat than someone who's leaner while trying to bulk, but your calories aren't high enough for a bulking, so you don't need to worry about that. if you take the road of recomposition, you don't have to go through the extremes of cutting and bulking.

-good luck!

Krissypoo
05-31-2005, 12:07 PM
SV - Yea right! You told me that you box squat AT LEAST 135!!! I sure as heck don't curl 135!

April - You are right...the "bulking" sent my head into orbit. Recomping is a smarter decision.

Thanks for the support, you two. :D I feel a lot better right now. I appreciate you ladies knocking some sense into me.

My calories are higher now...carbs at ~ 155 and cals at ~ 1570.

SV - Oh yea...that magic pill. Not FDA approved, but you are welcome to give it a try! :D I recall you saying that you could not use all of the machines. I think that you should make them work on that! I'll add some fats to my PM meal...a tablespoon of PB. That will bring my fats up to 30 and my cals up to ~1650 or so. SV, I am sure kris does have a magic pill for you, she always seems to have a solution for everything!

Kris,
Nice to have you back, I was gettinīa little worried over here. Oh, and as far as the new pup goes, you are going to be addicted to her and never want to leave. I miss my pup soooooo much. I would trade in all of my remaining oats in if I could have her over here. And for your week off, you can always go walk the park (if you have one that is safe) and there are plenty of ways to distract yourself from the gym.
Meginīs 2 cents:
"iīll use that time to figure out what I am doing the following week" Ok, not your exact words, but I didīt feel like copy and pasting. lol
My input would be to hold off on the planning as long as you can. You mentally need to take a break from the whole process. As you know, there is more to bb than just the weights and food. The mental game plays a huge role in it all. Now is your time to destress...use it!!

And not that I am one to talk, but SV is right, your cals are still really low. You are still bulking are you not? Yea, thats what I thought...come on kris, if I gotta up it then so do you...its like the unwritten rule that if I must, as do you!!

Krissypoo
06-01-2005, 11:12 AM
Yea yea yea...I'm eating! I have an ounce of almonds sitting right in front of me to add fats to my protein/fat meal...although there were not fats in there at first! Clean bulking...yea yea yea. I guess it has not made me gain fat...clean bulks shouldn't. I got my attitude adjustment...thank you guys for giving it to me! :D

Oh, I KNOW that you are not talking...Ms. 2 AM dog walker! I'm not too worried about anyone bothering me with her. She's a pit bull. :D You would trade your oats for your doggie?!?!?! That's love!!!!

No go write in your journal so that I can bug you!

i think max-OT is great, but remember to adjust it to your individual needs! some people who do max-OT who do exactly as the program outlined, returned back complaining about overtraining and not recovering enough. lol.

when was your last back off week? before you start a new program, i think you might want to consider having a week off every 4-12weeks you've trained intensely. 12 weeks is prolly the max i'll go without having some rest. i've made a mistake of waiting until i had red flags waving at every corner to have one -_-;;. there are many benefits to having a week off, try it if you haven't

Krissypoo

I haven't had a week off since...ever! Even when I went on vacation, I trained all of the days that I had planned. Partially because I feel like punishing my body into doing the right thing. I hope my week of strategic deconditioning + low carbs will help get things back in order. Honestly, I think that I am beginning to be overtrained now...hence my emotional state and the emotional overeating.

I've heard of people overtraining on Max OT. I'll look into it a bit more. I don't know if I will have that issue or not, but we will see. I usually have no problem recovering, but I would hate to start overtraining and just be totally screwed. Thanks for the info, April. :) I appreciate it.

i agree with angeleye. on your week off, i dont' think going low carb is a good idea. what you want to do at this time is to let the weights cool down and your body to recharge! something that dan john often says that i really like: "when things go wrong, simplify."

you should take a read here on back off weeks:

Thanks, you guys! :D April, that's a great link. I like the idea of doing cardio, bodyweight work, but not just bumming completely out. That was my initial intent...rock climb, a couple of fartleks, nothing terribly taxing.

Now, let me go spread around my reps so that I can rep you guys. Darn rep police... ;)

Compound circuit x 3

Deadlift: 155 lbs x 7
Dips: 20 lbs assistance x 7
Lat pull: 7 plates x 7
Overhead BB lunge: 60 lbs x 7
BB row: 60 lbs x 8

Isolation circuit x 3

Hammer curl: 25 lbs x 7 + 20 lbs x 3, 25 lbs x 5 + 20 lbs x 5, 25 lbs x 3 + 20 lbs x 7
Side lat raise: 15 lbs x 10
Tricep pressdown: 75 lbs x 8

20 rep squat: 185 x 20 :D:D:D:D

After that 20 rep squat, Goldie told me that I was "hardcore." LOL During my overhead BB lunge he shook his head at me and said that he knew that I was going to do great bodybuilding because I was so intense. :D Can you tell that I am geeked about today's workout?!?!?!

Yep...a new "puppy." She's already a year and a half...an American Staffordshire Terrier. :) That sounds so much better than Pit Bull. Her owner only wanted her to have a litter and, now that she has, he is giving her away!

Fartlek means speed play. If you look back on this past Saturday's journal, you can see the Fartlek that I have been doing. It's not HIIT, but it is interval training and varying speeds...but not just random speeds. It's fun and tough. You might want to check it out!

Thanks for the congrats Paichka and Powells. :) Coming from you two, that means A LOT to me!!! :D

These macros won't stay this way. The reason that they are so low is because I have no idea what time of how I am going to do cardio today. I have to get my car fixed and that is going to throw everything off in the evening. I may just add another meal of egg whites and a tsp of PB or something.

These macros also include an extra 2 AM scoop of whey. Hi Kris, congradulation on having a new baby girl :)
Dogs are great, I have a rottweiler, so i'm not afraid of walking at anytime either. They can really get you moving!

Helene - Thanks! I am so excited about her. I need to call my brother and ask him when we can go see her. I don't know if the previous owner socialized her at all, but that can be fixed. I think I am going to train her in Italian. Spanish is too easy for someone to mess with her, and that's the exact reason why I am not going to train her in English. hi kris

a BMR of 2300 is not surprising to me. have you ever tried increasing your cals slowly and eat at 1800cals for a long period of time [like 2months, not weeks]? if you've only ate 1800 for a few weeks, then the fat you said you gained was just a way your body was learning to adapt to a higher caloric intake. honestly i think you don't eat enough for your lifestyle!!! you are kicking ass training intensely but you're not fueling yourself enough. if you start to eat at least 1800 for a longer time, then the "fat" will disappear and most likely you'll gain lean mass. with chronic dieting it slows down the metabolism a lot so when you increase cals you are reving up your engine it eventually you'll adapt to the firing metabolism.

Krissypoo
06-02-2005, 04:59 PM
I'm definitely going to do that. I've been eating ~ 1800 for a while now, so I will increase that. I know that I will probably have to eat quite a bit more with Max OT...I don't want to risk truly overtraining due to not eating enough or sleeping enough.

I'm just really bad about not eating enough due to fear of getting fat. I can't be scared to eat though...that's just crazy.

Kris... Did you base those calculations off your LEAN mass or your total mass?? Because your BF% is REALLY going to count when calculating your calorie requirements.

Also - things will vary between individuals. Some people just 'burn more' than others (regardless of their lean tissue or activity level - it is to do with their internal body clocks).

BE REALLY REALLY careful about going off generic internet formulae - they usually base calculations on your TOTAL weight and they usually use the old Harris-B equation - which is REALLY out of date and inaccurate.

Usually I suggest that to guestimate your maintinence you either:
1/ use this rough formula:
Find your lean mass.
Convert to Kg
BMR = (21 x lean mass) + ~ 400 cals (this varies from person to person)

Multiply this by an activity factor - which for most people is something between 1.3 (not all that active) to 1.6 (train 5-6 times a week at a good intensity, moderately active in your daily life)... Most females sit at ~1.4.

or
2/ Calculate off gram requirements
0.4g fats/lean mass
1.5g protein/lean mass
2g carbs/lean mass

That gives you a rough starting value for an average calorie requirement for a person training ~5 times a week (to maintain). Sit at that intake for ~2-3 weeks and then assess to see if you have altered your BF%, weight or measurements... Then adjust it accordingly.

ps: just on a side note... BMR = calories required by you, after ~8 hrs rest, before rising, first thing in the morning when you have not eaten for >8 hrs and not exercised or consumed stimulants for >24 hrs. Basically - it is your calorie requirements if you were in a coma. ;)

Total energy expenditure (TEE) = BMR + activity expenditure + TEF

Activity expenditure = that lost through exercise and daily living
TEF = that lost through eating/digesting food

pss: A lot of people also find that, due to the appreviated training programs and the lack of cardio, their calorie requirements can go DOWN if they are used to lots of LONG, HEAVY sessions or lots of cardio - so be careful of that too...

Great Job on the workouts and diet. It looks good, I know what you mean about eating a lot. I just got a nutritionist and he has me eating 2000kcal and I cant help but feel like a stuffed turkey. I know its to stimulate my metabolism cause it shut down due to not eating enough in the past. Anyhow, be patient..thats what I tell myself and it helps sometimes....sometimes.....

Also, its funny you mentioned the gorcery store list' HA Ive been in Italy for three months now....and i get weird faces all the time cause I have a ton of eggs and meats in my cart. Italians like to eat but they dont eat what I do and like I do every three hrs. They like to have one good meal 'dinner' a day....LOL so you can imagine me buying 14 eggs a day =0) Hehehe...just imagining their faces is something I will never ever forget. =0)

Best of luck!

Emma - I used your calculations, so my BMR is ~1470 calories. That x the activity ratio is ~ 2050 calories. I'm still not that high, so I will SLOWLY try to get there. Do you think that is a bad idea?

~ 170g protein
~ 45g fats
~ 225g carbs

Yep, 165 has been the highest but I know that I can go higher. I will when I go back after my break week. I probably could have gone at least 175, I just didn't know it. Carbs do lovely things for you! :D

LOL - I think that ~1450 to 1500 cals looks a lot more reasonable as a BMR!!! :p And a total of ~2000 cals would sound like a pretty good maintainence amount for someone your size, doing your current activity level.

But, as I said, it varies between individuals. If you are gaining on 1800 cals then you might just have a slightly lower requirement, you might be under-guestimating your BF% or you might be over-guestimating your activity level...

Also - the above macro's come out to ~1985 cals. So if you were more comfortable with something like:
190g protein
45g fat
200g carbs
Then you could do that as well.... It is just a 'starting figure'.

Now - If you are going to 'bulk' then you could start with ~2000 cals and see how things went over the first 2 to 3 weeks. If you did not like the results then pull back. If you maintained your weight, well - that is great too you just get to eat more! :D

But - I am sorry to sound like a 'party poop' here... but I would be careful about flat out "bulking" if your BF% is over about 20%. Once females hit about 22% you start to hit an area where your body is likely to respond to calorie excess in a 'more fat, less muscle' kind of way.

The hormonal shifts (in terms of partitioning, insulin sensitivity, oestrogen levels etc etc) all become unfavourable at this stage.

So I would concentrate on either doing a re-composition type diet (something where you eat at, or just below, maintainence.... or you could zig-zagging your cals around/just below maintainence) where you time your nutrients/carbs to maximise muscle recovery/building and to 'train' your body to use it's fat for fuel...

Or, you could just diet down and strip some fat off (till about 15-17%) before you embark on a full mass building type program.

{please don't shoot me everyone... It is just my honest opinion}

Hi Emma, (sorry Kris, hope you don't mind me jumping in on your journal :) )
I tried your calculation on myself and I'm freaking out here.... it comes to approx 2250 cals for me. I can't imagine eating that much. Are these calculations geared specifically for what Kris is trying to accomplish?
I'm a little confused.. (common for me these days :D )
No - they are not just for Kris - they are generic 'formulas' that you can use to give you a rough indication of your needs... But, as I said before, there are many things that alter your requirements and the figures should be used as just a 'guestimate' of how much you need each day.

If you are not pushing yourself in the gym, if you are not that active outside of working out, if have more BF than you think, or have been dieting long-term, then your requirements will go down.

Additionally, most females tend to also be a little lower in terms of their requirements and some individuals just have 'thrifty' metabolisms (it sucks - but it happens).

Lastly - people who have BF% over about 25% may have a reduced partitioning ability (insulin sensitivity is somewhat blunted) and so will tend to feed their fat and store more energy rather than feed muscle or burn it off.

All these things may mean that, instead of requiring 10% less than this to start to lose weight (which would be ~2000 cals) the person may require ~20 or 25% less (which would be around 1700-1800 cals).

For you - if you are trying to lose weight, and you are losing weight on what you are eating now, then as long as it is non-stupid diet (that means you are getting enough protein, getting enough essential fats, eating lots of green vegetables and fibre and that you are not continuously following a ludiculously low calorie intake) then you are best to keep doing what you are doing! ;)

However, if you wanted to check your maintainence for interests sake, next time you have a 'diet break' use that figure as a rough guide for your maintainence calorie requirements... Start at this figure and watch how your body responds over the first 2-3 weeks. If you gain weight (more than just water weight) - then your maintainence is not that high. If not, then you obviously need that much!

Emma - what do you think about zigzagging my calories? Alternating eating 25% below and at maintenance during the week and eating 25% above maintenance on the weekend?

Megin
06-05-2005, 03:30 AM
interesting....

Krissypoo
06-05-2005, 03:33 AM
Hey Meg! :D

I am rethinking the way I said that. How about 25% above maintenance on weight training days, 25% below on nonworkout days, and at maintenance on cardio days?

Megin
06-05-2005, 03:39 AM
Yes, I like that a lot better. You need the 25% more on your weight days.
I donīt think it would hurt to drop down 15% on days off and keep your maintence on your cardio days...what about those numbers??

Krissypoo
06-05-2005, 03:43 AM
That's good for me...

Doing 25% changes all around would put me at:

2500 on weight training days
2000 on cardio days
1500 on off days

Doing 25% above on weight training and 15% below on off woud put me at:

2500 on weight training days
2000 on cardio days
1800 on off days

Emma-Leigh
06-05-2005, 04:13 AM
Personally - I didn't mind the idea of 25% below on week days and 25% above on the weekends...

But this:

Doing 25% above on weight training and 15% below on off woud put me at:

2500 on weight training days
2000 on cardio days
1800 on off days
Ummm... Eepp - 2500 cals is 700 cals more than what you are averaging at the moment - that is a little extreme to jump to and could result in a fat-frenzy!!

Just because the numbers say 'your maintainence should be x cals' doesn't mean it has to happen that way.

I would strongly suggest you take things slowly - Then see how your body reacts and adjust accordingly. What is your current workout schedule like? What days do you do what?

If you did something like this:
2000 cals on weight days
1800 cals on cardio only days
1500 cals on rest days

It would be a little better than the other figure.

Or, you could try:
25% below maintainence for 3-4 days (100g carbs only)
24 hr 10-20% above high carb (low fat) refeed.

So that would mean:
~3-4 days of 1500 cals (100g carb, 170g protein 45g fat)
1 or 2 day of 2200 cals (340g carbs, 170g protein, 20-25g fat)

It is just that, if you want to get that fat mobilising, I don't know if that will happen with your cals up above 1800 at all times....

I understand. I think that I was too sleep deprived when I chose those calories. 2500 is A LOT! I wouln't even want to do that.

As far as my workout...this is my week of SD, so I am going to be active...just no heavy weights this week. I'll probably aim for 1500-1800 this week depending on my activity. After this week, I think that I will do Max OT so I'll be training 5 times a week. I would probably eat 1800 cals on the days that I train smaller muscle groups, 2000 on large group days, and 1500 on rest days.

I still need to rethink this. I am very tired and not thinking clearly. My last posts sound totally ridiculous!!! 2500 calories?!?!

Thanks for your help...I need it!

Paichka

I remember back when I rowed, we ate up to 3000 cals a day, and I was a RAIL.

I think 2500 isn't bad, as long as they're clean calories, it's easy enough to do if your activity level justifies it. However, as Emma says, that's a HUGE jump from your current level -- I think you could get there over a period of weeks...you should probably reevaluate your diet every couple of weeks and tweak it so that you're maximizing your results. I'm terrible about that, I tend to get into eating ruts. :p

Any ideas as to what your workouts are going to look like? You said Max OT, but what specifically are you planning on doing? I'm loving this HST circuit, btw...I'm so glad I saw your journal so I could ge the idea. :)

keep it up, girlie!

I understand. I think that I was too sleep deprived when I chose those calories. 2500 is A LOT!
I agree - 2500 cals is a lot for you at the moment (with ~113-115 pounds lean mass and with your activity level of 3 days cardio/3 days weights). BUT - Once you get a little more lean mass (or, if you every decided to do the extreme-workout thing) then it might be very appropriate!

As far as my workout...this is my week of SD, so I am going to be active...just no heavy weights this week. I'll probably aim for 1500-1800 this week depending on my activity.
Ahh - good!! About time you had a rest!! ;) And that calorie intake sounds pretty good for the moment as well.

After this week, I think that I will do Max OT so I'll be training 5 times a week. I would probably eat 1800 cals on the days that I train smaller muscle groups, 2000 on large group days, and 1500 on rest days.
Any reasons why you have picked Max-OT??

In terms of cals - just closely monitor things. As I mentioned before - many people, although they experience more hunger, actually need LESS calories because they are expending less energy during their workouts. So get out the tape measure, scales and camera for 'before' shots. The, at 2-3 weeks, do the measurements again. If your not happy - simply alter things! :)

hi kris- just wanted to let you know im still reading your journal. im really learning a lot reading the posts between you and emma-leigh. thanks to you both!

Thanks for still visiting Jeni! :) Maybe once I get some sleep, my journal will start being sensible again. :)

Emma - Extreme workout thing? HMMM...what do you mean by that? I'm interested in what you call extreme. :D In terms of Max OT...I was hoping that it would be another way to put on plenty of muscle. Do you think that it could lead to overtraining? Do you think that it is a bad idea? I was also thinking of doing another full body routine...a compound 5x5 routine. Honestly, I want ANYTHING that is going to pack on lots of muscle. I'm sick of being a soft weakling. ;)

I did just take measurements again. My emotional eating days, lack of sleep, and craziness at work didn't help them at all. I am back on track today...no more emotional eating and I will try to control the craziness at work...though I'm not sure how I can control the lack of sleep. I am hoping that with my drop in calories and my workouts this week that I can drop a 1-1.5 lbs of fat this week.

I cook it in different sauces that I make or I make desserts with it. It's really good blended up with milk or soy milk, splenda, and cocoa powder. I used to mix it up with an avocado, vanilla extract, and spinach along with some splenda...that was really good! I usually cook it in a spicy peanut sauce along with broccoli. If you chop it really finely, you can make lasanga with it...using thinly sliced eggplant as the "pasta."

I have to put this somewhere, so here it goes. It's my journal so I am allowed.

I am mad, but rather than be peeved and burn up and say ridiculous things I will just use this as fuel to get even bigger, even leaner, even better...

Today, I was checking my journal, doing fitday for tomorrow, redoing fitday for today. An old friend from college IMs me. What a cool surprise! Well, he asks if I have changed since college...and I have...so I say yes. I send him a link to my photos. His first question is, "Are you bi?"

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Yea, I am upset...but I am just going to use that to work 10x as hard to make him even SICKER when he sees me. Jerk....what a way to say hello to a friend!

This is why women have such bad body images- you have been SO negative about yourself lately and you shouldn't be- but I'm sure this doesn't help much. haha, I am actually laughing at that...even though I know it completely sux!!!
Why am I laughing you ask? Simply because I KNOW how much you love the men (uh, yea, Mr. Man??)
I have had that happen all too many times simply because I love working out. Some guys think that muscles are a masculine trait, when, in reality, muscles happen to be a HUMAN trait...
Some guys like a woman who can hold her own, others donīt. Its all personal preference. Donīt mind it too much.
Forget about what old college BOY said, and focus on what you are doing. You are on the right path, stay there and use it!!

Megin - That's the exact same thing that I thought at the time...I am man crazy!!!! I did ask him if he saw a skinny man would he assume that he like men instead of women. He started apologizing immediately.

Sunny - MY POINT EXACTLY. Don't open your trap without thinking about what you are about to say...those are the times when your most ignornant comments are spoken.

Dawn - Honey, don't worry...this didn't make me feel bad at all. It made me feel good to know that he thought that I was muscular enough to call me "diesel." :D And it's just going to make me work 10x harder to get even better. I am eating, I just don't see why I need to eat a boatload of carbs if I will not be doing any work to use them. I will add more protein to my last meal and maybe eat 5 oz of salmon instead of 4. I haven't gone to the store to buy it yet.

I'm doing a light circuit tomorrow, so my carbs will be higher...promise! I just want to keep it pretty low this week so that I can lose some fat. I'll get them up to 1500 today...I promise! :)

Don't worry...I am getting them up. I already know some changes that I need to make to my diet for today. I don't feel like making almond butter cookies, so I am going to have 2 soy/flax muffins with my omlette dinner. YUM YUM!

hey guys - leave Kris alone!!! :p Geezzz - can't a girl try to lose fat and gain lean mass at the same time in peace!!

Trust her - Kris knows not to completely starve herself but she is also smart enough to realise that she doesn't need to feed the hungry fat cells either!! :D Just stuffing food in for the hell of it isn't going to do her any good!

We all know she has a LONG TERM plan that will work out in the end - and she will be lean, buff and hard because of it.

How???

I got lucky...a little TOO lucky...buying my fish last night. I didn't mean to do it...I PROMISE. I asked the guy for 4 oz salmon(of course, it was organic and expensive as hell). He claimed that he didn't have a knife to cut anything that small but that he would "take care of me." I got a .75 lb of organic salmon for 55 cents!!! :) I guess being nice to people has it's little paybacks.

EDIT: Had an oops on fitday. Accidentally had 1 cup instead of .5 cup of oat bran. Didn't have time to get the salad for meal 2, so had an apple.

yea, I would keep the exercise order switching. That way you can pre fatigue other muscles before you hit squats, then you will be building a stronger base for when you have fresh legs to squat with! Are you working your smaller stabalizer muscles at all? (ie: rotators, shins, abductors/ads)

I love it, a woman with a plan :)

Krissypoo
06-08-2005, 07:04 AM
Some of the stabilizers will get worked, depending on the exercise. I should probably do some rotator cuff work...you know why!

Kris- I use Esterified Creatine 4000 by pinnacle. I love it, I might hold some water on it- not too much though. I tend to hold A LOT of water normally, when I went off of the creatine earlier I lost 2 lbs of water. It doesn't have any bad side effects that most creatines do....like stomach pains and ummm bathroom problems! yuck! Nitrix doesn't have creatine in it unless you get something like noxplode by bsn(which I have heard is great). I use the pinnacle creatine and nitrix by bsn, aakg by NOW is also a good brand. Hope that helps a bit.

You're right...it's NO Xplode. The only thing about NO Xplode is the caffeine and you have to take it right before a workout, so that may not work for me. I probably wouldn't get very good sleep if I took it @ 4 PM.

Emma-Leigh

Hey Kris!!!

Your new routine looks great!! Have you decided on a calorie program as well? And what about cardio? When and how much do you think you will do?

In terms of rotator cuff - do some external rotations on your bench day. Something like:
2-3 sets of 6-12 reps per side (to finish).

And don't do them in the plane of your body - so many people do them by holding their elbow to their waist and then they just twist their arm in and out and it is completely ineffective!!! In order to stimulate the muscle you need to lift the weight against a force - and that means you need to lift AGAINST gravity! So do them like this Lying external rotation (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Infraspinatus/DBLyingExternalRotation.html) or this Standing external rotation (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Infraspinatus/DBUprightExternalRotation.html).

Most people are strong enough in their subscapularis that they will not need internal rotation exercises - but if you want you can throw those in as well.

How has your rest been? What have you been up to? Me - had a killer workout this morning and have been carb loading all day!! Mmmmm.... I got OATIES! And did I mention OATIES!! And a few more OATIES!! :p Sooo gooodddd... I swear I could live off the combination of oats and cottage cheese! :D

When do you get your new baby??!!! Awwww - you HAVE to post piccies of her when you get her!!

Anyway - I'm tired so I am off to bed... But I wanted to drop in to let you know I am still alive! :)

Krissypoo
06-11-2005, 07:06 AM
Hey Emma!!! I am so glad that you are still alive. :) Sometimes, real life can take over...no fun! I am TOO jealous of your carb load...gotta love those oats! :p

I believe that I am going to calorie cycle, cycling the carbs to drop the cals. I'll do something like this:

Squat Day: above maintanence - 2000 cals
Bench Day and cardio: at maintanence - 1800 cals
Cardio Day: below maintanence - 1600 cals
Deadlift Day: above maintanence - 2000 cals
Arm Day and cardio: at maintanence - 1800 cals
Cardio Day: below maintanence - 1600 cals
Off Day: below maintanence - 1500 cals

Hopefully, this will allow me to recomp! :) The days that I do cardio and lift, I will do low intensity...probably just walking. The first cardio only day will be moderate cardio. I REALLY wish the gym that I attend had classes that did NOT involve weights, but they all do. I will end up running on the treadmill or doing the elliptical/arc. The final cardio only day will be fartleks...you showed me those and now I am hooked!

I am eating dairy again...it was beginning to get to me and I noticed that my fat loss was just as good, if not better, with it. My baby is coming soon...she's just had her babies so she needs a few more weeks with them. I can't wait to get her here!!! My brother brought his staffie over last night...he's so silly! He spent about an hour entertaining us...he was chasing the light that kept moving when we were opening and closing the storm door!

I was busy, but not too busy to eat...just no appetite. In that case, I will drop the calories on my cycles a bit. Whatever it takes to drop this fat...

MsW, good luck with your deadlifts today.

I shouldn't worry too much about losing fat, all those dog walks will soon burn that off! ;)

The red dog that I was supposed to get is taking FOREVER. We know another guy with ASTs. He has a b!tch that just had puppies, but she killed them all. He doesn't want her anymore so guess who is getting her! :D She blue-brindle, docked ears, and gorgeous...she skinny and emaciated now since she just had babies. I'm getting her as soon as her milk dries! :D:D:D

Hey Kris!!

Woo hoo!! Awesome workout! How long did it take you? How are your hammies feeling?? Completely fried?

Excellent numbers too! - 165!! Eeep! And that is the top of your rep range too (to get 6 reps you could easily have added another 10-20 pounds onto that)! Congratulations!

How do you like reverse hypers?!! Lots of fun swinging your legs around??!! Do you have a reverse hyper bench or do you improvise? (I hang off the side of our a lying leg-curl machine with a DB between my ankles! I get some odd looks but it is effective!! :p ).

Hope your day (night? Afternoon) is going well.

Hey Emma! :)

Hey Powells! :)

The workout was great! It lasted 55 minutes and that's because I had to wait on the lat raise machine to do glute-ham raises. I can lift so much more, now I know!!! I'll be increasing these weights next time! :) The reverse hypers...YOWZAS! My booty was feeling nice, but I'll increase on this next time too. We have a reverse hyper machine at the gym. By the time I got to my last set of glute-ham raises, all I could hear was a sizzling...the frying of my hammies!

The doggy may or may not be too aggressive. I think that I could work with her and teach her. What do you guys think...HONESTLY.

LOL - I know the feeling! I love reverse hypers for that butt burn! :p

We have a reverse hyper machine at the gym.
Arggg - I am so jealous! My damn gym wouldn't even know what a reverse hyper bench was!! Example - the damn place just got rid of my platform!! How am I ment to do SLDL when I can't get a full stretch because the plates prevent full range of motion? They also took my bumper plates for deads! Grrr....

The doggy may or may not be too aggressive. I think that I could work with her and teach her. What do you guys think...HONESTLY.
Honestly - I would be cautious. If she is a mature dog then her 'personality' is pretty set and it is very hard to train aggression out of a dog that has this as one of it's 'built in' characteristics... And, even if you COULD re-train her, I would be concerned that this kind of behaviour could transmit to other things (other dogs, people and children) if she was in a 'stressful' situation.

So go and see her before you commit to anything. Watch her interact with her surroundings and her owner and see how she reacts to strangers (you have to watch for a while too - as she needs to 'settle into the situation')... Also - Ask if you can take her for a walk in a dog park. Watch her interactions with other dogs in this situation too (on a lead at first, but off lead if she is ok). If you can, you could also bring a dog with you into her yard to see how she reacts when the dog in her territory (have BOTH DOGS ON LEADS!!!).

Lastly - if she is OK with all of this, ask for a 2 week 'trial' period to take her home. That will give you an opportunity to really she what she is like.

But.... I would still caution you to "play it safe" and wait.

Thanks, Emma!

I'll check her out first. I'd hate to have her do something to me or someone else that visits me. My brother has had one of this guy's dogs before and he let him take the dog for a week before deciding whether or not he wanted the pup. Hopefully, he will let me do the same.

looks like everything is going good kris! look at those deadlift weights!! ;)

btw, how do you eat the eggwhites, oats and berries? do you actually microwave the eggwhites and oats together??? i've tried that before...gagged at the smell of it and spit it out when i had a taste. or do you cook them separately? i need a new change to my yogurt and oats every morning.

Thanks April! :)

I'm a busybody in the AM, so I put the berries in the oven wrapped in a foil packet along with splenda, cinnamon, and vanilla. After that, I cook the oats. I add cinnamon and vanilla to them. Then, I add scrambled egg whites, mix it well, and cook it like a pancake. I top the oat/egg white pancake with the berries. It's really good!
