I hate waking up @0400 to do cardio, going to work for 8 hrs, then go to the gym and workout, come home cook dinner for the wife & kids, my "healthy" dinner, then my family wonder why at 9pm I am so tired, or passed out on the couch.
Ed
Edit- I cook dinner not becaused "I'm whipped" I cook dinner because my wife is English, and we all know how many 4 star English restaurants there are right?

You have a sister ?;)
Acually I cook(about 1/2 the time for the family and 95% of the time for my food), do dishes, all the outside chores, fix anything that breaks....but I hate doing laundry....but I would if I had too, but I hate it. LOL
So there is my rant, but I am not a house husband....so I am not sure I qualify. LOL

Or have an agreement.
I cook, she washes the dishes.
I wash the cloths, she folds.
I get up in the morning with the kid and she sleeps in.
She gets up at night, if required, I just sleep.
I vacuum the carpet and she cleans the tile and the wood floors.
You just have to sit down and come to an agreement that not lop sided and works for you both.

she cant even cook yorkshire pudding, when she tries it comes out flat and ends up looking like nan bread for the curry houses. Sorry lived in UK for 4 yrs and besides chicken & mushroom, steak & kidney pies, fish wrapped in newspaper with fries soaking in malt vinegar with mashed peas, and Sunday pub meals, everywhere else were restaurants from other countries.

lol - I never said the good restaurants served English food ;) Traditional English food sucks as far as BB-ers and other athletes are concerned

Now you cant beat the beer & lager, when I 1st go to the UK, being young & dumb, I forgot that the brewing standards in the UK are not restricted as they are here with alcohol %, needless to say 8 pints opposed to a 8 beers here and it was over, woke up with half a right eyebrow, and some makeup on my face.

Myself being a househusband absolutely hate doing the wash. I swear my kids must change their clothes at least two times a day and heaven forbid they use a bath towel more than once. I look in the laundry chute and it just keeps coming. One last thing is eating. We have a kitchen table, you'd think my kids would use it. I just love stepping in cookie crumbs and pudding in my bare feet. Sorry......... I feel much better now.

well i have full custody of all 3 kids and i do everything ..oldest daughter has a thing about cleaning ..if i clean she redoes it.lso i let her do her thing..but the other 2 i had dishwasher 101 and washing machine 101 with them last week..nothhing angers me more than 2 shirts and a pair of jean being run on full load!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When we got married my father gave me this sage advice, "Buy a dishwasher, son."
And you turned to him and said, "But dad, I just married one!" :D j/k
In my house it's like this: She's basically a slob when it comes to keeping the house neat. Yes, I have 3 teenage kids, but she is just like them; never clean as you go...so you can spend an entire day moaning about having to clean up what you could have prevented in the first place. Seriously.
Laundry: I do my own. In fact, I insist I do my own. If I let her do it....it may be months before a certain shirt or two shows up again. Seriously.
Cleaning in general: I clean as I go, and always have. But I admit I've become terrible about pitching in to clean up general stuff like kitchen floors or vacuuming etc... And I used to do these things. I think got copped an attitude of "Since everyone else here is a slob, why should I bother?" Seriously.
Cooking: I am the one who knows how to cook. To this day, she still has to ask me what temp and time should she cook something like chicken on. I used to cook all the time (like, almost daily), but when my children got old enough to let their peculiarities be known of what they will and won't eat...and this essentially meant cooking one main entree was going to piss one of them off....I said screw it, cook your own freaking dinner. Seriously.
Household maintenance: I am the only one who does any yard work. I also fix everything that gets broken or ...whatever. This is normal though, right?
She came from a VERY dysfunctional family so she never had a role model for many things. I had one of those "white glove" mothers. This is not a good combination. 20yrs of bliss. Yes, I said bliss, damn it! :)

ironing :)
I haven't ironed in over ten years. The best thing my husband did the first time I got pregnant was to donate all his shirts to charity and buy a bunch of non-iron ones. No-one has ironed anything since.
You know what? You can't tell the difference.

My wife is from India. Growing up she had servants and stuff to do everything we have to do here, hence she can clean nothing, iron nothing, and barely wash anything (when she does she will mix a pair of red shorts in with the whites or wash a 'dry clean only' pair of slacks...). I do virtually all housework, cooking, etc. She does have an awesome job though and outearns me 4 to 1 so I ain't complaining to loud... plus she's way out of my league hot :-)

My husband is a NYC Firefighter. (read-good cook) He was also raised by parents that shared the load (He's one of 7)
He ALWAYS does the dishes, and he's the one who cuts out recipes and gives me cooking advice. I am not the best of cooks, but I'm getting better...he's an awesome cook, but works 7 days a week, so never gets home in time to cook an inside dinner. If we're barbequing-he's right on that!
He is not allowed to do laundry. He seems to think fabric softener is for sissies. I am a sissy. :)
He does the yardwork under duress-I like the yard work. We're in a serious roll reversal situation.
The baby also likes him best. (Which works when there's a poopy diaper in the works...lol!!)

I have described my ideal life as "housewife with a writing habit"
I love to cook, don't mind cleaning the bathroom or doing laundry.
I'm not fond of dishes, and tend to let them sit - but will buck up and do 'em... and I don't like the vacuum because it's noisy...
I don't mind spending most of the day at home alone, it lets me work on my writing. (Wish I had kids, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.)
Problem is, I keep meeting guys who value me for my independence and self-sufficiency and who don't seem to want to take care of me and keep me at home.

I've been a single dad more on than off for about 6 years now. I am used to cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. However, my youngest is now 17 y/o and pretty much fends for himself. I tend to take care of the common area cleaning, but his room and his bathroom are his responsibility. Plus, I travel a fair bit, so he is used to cooking for himself. I have also been getting him to do the basic lawn mowing while I am gone. (you won't believe how much that helps my attitude).
Oh, and I don't iron either. Unless its in a hotel room and I have a meeeting where I am wearing my "good" pants.

Sorry to burst your bubble Kev. We are painting the house at the moment, if it ever stops raining. I'm doing the top 1/2 and she's doing the bottom 1/2... She also is doing the trim and she's got more done than I do..:(

Yeah, my old next door neighbor had a wife who was always painting rooms and alike. I wish my wife would've taken her cue :). In fact, my wife asked me for quite some time to make new kitchen cabinets, and she wanted them made out of cherry (I've made most of the furniture in our home). She promised to paint the kitchen if I did this. Well, I made the cabinets, but she stalled on painting....so I did it. She then promised she'd paint the rest of the main level. Well, she did then formal dining room and as usual....left the room and adjacent areas in disarray because she'd "get around to the LR" asap. After a few weeks passed, the mess drove me nuts and I ended up painting the damn LR, too.
In her defense, she works full time and has a very demanding job. She is also a great mother. She's just a lousy homemaker :). I love it when my parents announce that they're coming to town, as I can count on the house being clean for at least a few days :(.

If our son wakes up at night my wife gets up and I sleep, that's good, but I have to get up with him when he gets up in the morning, sometimes that's not so good. Especially at 5:00am.
dbx - We decided to only clean the play area, the majority of the house, once a day. Once we get Aran asleep we clean up so our house is a disaster area most of the time. Today I had to rehang the pantry door so it opened from the left, as he figured out how to open open it and drag out all the stuff. :D

When we first moved in, I used to complain about the lino in the kitchen, it looked just the same no matter whether it was clean or dirty. Now I LOVE the lino in the kitchen, it looks just the same whether it's clean or dirty....
Here's how my wife cooks:
1. Put between 3 and 6 random ingredients in a large pot.
2. Place pot on stove and turn on heat as high as it will go.
3. When the smoke alarm goes off, it's done.
So vol does all the cooking at our place.

I'm the chief cook and bottle washer.
Get one of those wire racks you put next to the sink. Then everyone can wash their own plates, glasses, silver and put them in the wire rack to drip dry. This is during the day from morning to evening. At least one meal each day should be a kinda highlight for family bonding and all. So clean dishes, glasses, silver and napkins enhance a good evening meal.
All during the day everyone is expected to keep their own eating utensils, bowls, cups, glasses, etc.,clean. No one is allowed to use two of any utensils during the day, they must take utensils they've used from the wire rack. You'd be surprised how much dishwashing time this saves.
A musclehead can make everyone do the wire rack thing. It's hard for moms, they're so sweet about everything.
This wire rack only works, if they're old enough to handle it. The little ones have still gotta be taken care of.
Cooking has become my chore, because I just couldn't hack the fried food, and other unhealthy goolash that kept getting pushed in front of me. My wife loves it... I'm sure, even though she never says anything.
Everyone likes my healthier meals. Steamed veggies are a hit, along with all the grilled meats. I've found one big secret... Extra Virgin Olive really brings out the flavor of foods cooked in oil, and it's good for you.
There are all kinds of sauces, gravies and little packets of stuff at the grocery you can buy to perk up your meals. I've slowly learned how to make many sauces and gravies myself over time, but those little McCormick packets of sauces and gravies were a great help when I first started the cooking bit.
There isn't anything hard about cooking, especially when there are so many great options at the grocery for creating good healthy meals.
It takes alot of discipline to get up and go to the gym, eat the right foods, etc. You may have a wife like mine, that only cooked what she had a taste for. Healthy or whether it was good for my training was just not a priority for her. My wifes attitude was basically... if you want something else you're going to have to cook it yourself. I had to carry my training discipline a step further...cook my own meals, if I wanted the results I was expecting from my training.
Sometimes her conscience bothers her, because she'll come in and take over the steaming of the veggies. I think it's kinda cute.
LOL

When visiting my folks, we usually do this ^ very thing after dinner. They never use their dishwasher since it's just the two of them. It always brings back childhood memories of when we had no dishwasher. When dinner is over we all help clearing the table, and then one person washes while another dries :). We only do this at my house after Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners.
My kids would feel persecuted if they were asked to wash & dry dishes after each meal  :)

The way to sell this...
All you have to do is rinse off your utensils right after eating. The food will wash right off. Then you just put the untensil in the wire rack and it will drip dry.

Well, let's not get too carried away here, Domineaux :). Utensils should be properly washed with a soap solution of some sort before using them again. And I can assure you, I would not eat in any restaurant that simply rinsed and dripped-dry the "freshly used" knives and forks of other patrons :D

I forgot to mention something.
Everyone uses the utensils they orginally dirtied. They get to eat their own germs, if they don't wash their utensils well enough. LOL
Funny thing about it is, after awhile everyone has their own little part of the wire rack where their stuff is. You'll even get a few arguments about someone using some elses stuff. LOL
I tried a rack that you placed down inside the sink, that didn't work. I got a longer rack that sits on the counter top beside the sink and it works great.

Yeah, my kids have their own bathroom. They have greatly improved on the up keep. They used to leave nice big chunks of tooth paste all over the place. Now its mostly cleaned up but for some reason hanging up the bath mat and closing the linen closet door is to much for them to remember.

Yes, my kids have their own bathroom, that is 3 kids...one girl, the oldest...10 going on 25, and two boys 8 and 6...so you know who's not happy with the arrangement. :P
They pick up their clothes and put them in the laundry. If not-they don;t get washed. My kids all have jobs around the house, my daughter has bathroom duty (yes, she cleans the toilets, sinks, tub and vacuums the upstairs.) SO-if her brothers leave anything, she tosses it (read-wings it) at their heads, or hides it. They have learned to pick up after themselves.
My boys both have jobs as well. 8 year old takes out garbage, vacuums the stairs, cleans up the den and his room. The 6 year old picks up dog poop, puts away the boys laundry, and keeps his room clean. He also just learned how to change his own sheets.
Everyone in my house puts away their own laundry. This was a sore point with my husband, and it got to the point where he asked me..."where do my socks go?" I asked him where he got them from every morning. Then I didn;t speak to him until he stopped stomping around and muttering and just put the darned stuff away!
Wow. I just realized. I don't really do much around here. LOL!!! How cool is that?

I guess if I was an "Oil Magnet" I most definately could and would enjoy some form of a harem. :p
But alas the one woman is enough for me.
Good to see this thread moving along. :D
My wife has had a number of her friends living with us over the years but that had to stop.
The wife and I did do a piece with the "Marriage Councelling" thing where we discovered my wife has this auto-shutoff switch when I try to talk with her.
Well that was a total waist of time and today we still share the same issues and I still have the same success when trying to be serious with her about important issues; she smiles and changes the damn subject.
I have threatened to trade her in for an older model since I kept my receipt but she again will just smile and move on to a subject of interest for her.

I work from home, and my wife is disabled, so I do most things around the house. She contributes where she can, and I take care of the bulk of the housework. Since there's just the two of us (and three dogs), there's never overly much to be done as long as we pick up after ourselves. I think the most time is spent on sweeping up the dog hair.
And I'll never ever be without my wonderful dishwasher :)

I guess mine is a little different take. Clean the house? Dang, there is only two of us now, we do have dogs, but that is no big deal. Cook? When my wife and I started living together before getting hitched she cooked for me once. It was a super special recipe from her grandmother, a family classic. After that meal I just smiled and said, "Honey, I'll take care of the cooking from now on." I will be elidgable for an early retirement soon at 53, stock market cooperating and the state doesn't change the rules in the next two years. The job is great, pays outstanding but it is eating me up. So, I am chaffing at the bit to BECOME A HOUSE HUSBAND! My wife is 10 years younger than me. She loves her job and says she wants to stay as long as possible so some of the essentials would be covered.
Word of advise guys. Always marry a younger woman, this way she can keep you in health insurance and you always have someone to drive you to the emergency room.

I hate when our 3 year old decides to change her sleep pattern and ruins my much needed recovery time sleep.
Ah yes, me too! My daughter will be 3 in Sept.
And I am picking her up from daycare 3 days a week now for my wife to go to the gym, so I have to at least fix something quick for her dinner. At least she likes ravioli... LOL She does like Morningstar Farms (soy) Chick Pattis with ketchup and a veggie too.
I usually fix something pretty quick and low carb for myself, nuke some frozen fish and frozen broccoli, peas, or green beans.

This could work. All the old geezers can marry the young women and all the mature beautiful women can marry hottie young guys. That takes care of everyone right? We'll have to drug the young ones to get them to participate in this plan. Either that or hope young hotties (male and female) aren't too bright. :D

Let's hear more about this?
Yes, 9 women, all christian, all got plenty cash and rich husbands but they run a specialised home for guys like me, basically in U.K. there is a prison crisis and they are overcrowded there are prisoners having to use local police cells and air force bases, i was referred here by a crown judge, a police sergent, my C.P.N., my mentor Natalie (cheers Nat, if your reading hows about a date :) or if your not reading i will get you to read when i see ya next ... my gorgeous babe... ;) ) you cant just walk in here its all women staff, i had to have police checks THOROUGHLY and if i even had a slight harrasment of women or anything to do with child abuse of any form i would have got a fast refusal, they might be christians and love you, but they not stupid.
Anyways i been here a while rent free, they have all helped me in their own ways and i am back on my feet again and ready to move on if i want to, i will soon but until then i do live with 9 women :D
They don't need money, one of their husbands works on the Williams design in F1 racing, one has a computer business etc, they got too much time on their hands and decided to help guys like me - i appreciate it, prefer here than sat in a prison TBH.

Yeah, you might want to rethink that when you find yourself eating off greasy plates. My kids will wash up, but they won't use very hot water, so I find an adult has to wash up at least once a day to get the residual grease off.

Weird, I eat the cottage cheese while the oats are cooking. Only do this on lift days, before I go to the gym. On no gym days, I have my typical 5 eggs scrambled with potatoes, smothered in cheese, with a small steak. I also have that after I lift.

Hey, isnt this the househusband rant thread? lol.
I need to rant....im not a househusband, but i need to rant. Anyone not givin a hoot, avert your eyes and go to the next post!! lol.
My workouts have been suffering severly. My wifes father passed away in the beginning of July. Nice guy...76...6 daughters, but everyone is ok. Then the following week we went on vacation....she really needed it. Didnt do much, but werent working and doing the manhattan thing, water parks etc. So little or no workouts that week.'
I got back on schedule for two weeks, almost, and my wife had a seizure while driving! Thank god it was on our block..she hit my neighbors bushes, and nothing else....she's ok, but now on meds, messing her up...and the big one..SHE CANT DRIVE FOR A YEAR!! NY state mandates no driving for a year after a seizure, you hav eto be seizure free for a year.
She's doing ok...back to work today after taking last week off. Im hoping she's doing ok there..Im worried about her mentally more than physically.
Ok, so im back at the gym as of last wed..thurs...sat, and sun.
I also personal train...most of my clients bailed for the summer (rat bastards)..lol. Now i'll be driving her to work and picking her up everyday....taking her kids to two different schools (second marriage)..and twice a week taking my daughterr to school in another town.
My current job is going down the tubes for some crazy reasons I wont get into here...so Im thinking of doing the pt thing for my full time gig. I love it, and im good at it. (actually training a kid..14 who has lost 10% bf, grew 3 inches and lost 2 lbs total over the summer....he's actually lost about 17 lbs of body fat, and gained 15 lbs of lean tissue...im proud of htis kid)...so anyway, im gonna try that one.
I know it will all be ok...it has to be....you make it ok, or you dont and im not of the mind set of not making it ok....but I needed to rant.
I need to work out...i need it because I love it...i feel good, it challenges me, it makes me who I am, I look good, and I need to stay in shape if I wnat to PT....thats my calling card...people respond ot someone in a tee shirt that fills it out right.
I was almost 200lbs in march...used to always be 150 or so....but it was too heavy so i went from 200 to 183 or there abouts...but after all this, ive lost weight...im down to 175..not happy about that...but believe it or not..im pretty damn strong in the gym....i'll come back quickly...but i have to make the time for me when i can....
Ok so ive rambled and whined..I feel better...not looking for sympathy, and im not the type to normally do this, but when i saw RANT as part of the thread....i thought..HEY..what the hell. lol..
For those who read..thanks..for those who didnt..I dont blame you!! ha ha..

I hate dragging the garbage down 8 flights and into the garbage room. My wife's not a "natural" cook and I am; I cook in spates, mostly dinners. She loves it when I cook but I think takes it for granted sometimes. I hate vacuuming. We take turns but I'd rather do just about anything than negotiate that monster around tight areas and move everything. Ah well, we're about to move to a place we just bought with central vacuuming.

Can the supporters of semihousehusbands rant here too?
Probably too much to rant about but I'm with Hibi on the younger partner thing. I've been threatening to trade my semihousehusband in for a couple later models.
You could have the same deal he has, live for free in a great place, just be willing and able to fix my bike when I break it (I'll take care of most things but need some help with some of the major repairs) and occasionally help with some of the major projects (very occasionally) and I'll take care of the rest (at least that seems to be the deal he's made).
Just had to join in after reading all the rants and well, stuff! :)

A few of my thoughts shared.
10,000 posts already eh. Too much perhaps. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z291/macgyverdel/postwhore.gif
Especially considering I reached 9k last Monday.
Well I joined "Bodyspace" in January this year after months of frequenting the "Articles" section and reading up in hopes of better educating myself.
But the education will never end thank God!
The first 1k were posts in the photo galleries.
But before I knew it and for whatever reason I decided to venture into the journals. Visited a number of them for a couple months and slowly veered away from Bodyspace before finally starting a journal of my own.
I had seaN plenty of pics in a couple of them and soon found an image account and started posting those. Much easier to have a simple facade of pics than to actually open myself up too much.
Then I fell into the much criticized Sea thread. Yet still stayed out of the rest of "Misc." Wow I found a new home I thought. But in the end the thread grew quickly and along with too many images being posted had to be shut down. Just prior I had been trying to spend more time in the "O35" but my Sea post history followed me.
I believe to date I have posted around 5,000 posts in the Sea threads. And I will continue to do so because of the good people there. And the enjoyment I get.
So 10,000 posts;
- 5,000 in the Sea
- 1,000+ in the photo galleries
- 1,500+ possibly in the journals
- 2,500 I don't know but everywhere else
My future posting plans are to balance things out a bit with more time spent in the journals that I have subcribed to. (40+) at this point I believe.
And more time in the "Over 35".
In the many journals you can find;
Motivation, inspiration, humour, sadness etc. And hopefully post some of the same. :)
One more thought I believe to be true of many of us;
"The only true guardian of peace lies within; a sense of concern and responsibility for your own future and an altruistic concern for the well-being of others."
