View Full Version : no coach, plz critique form

i'm just starting out olympic lifting. i don't have a coach, so im getting info off videos, etc, to get the form right. heres a video of me power cleaning. any advice would be appreciated.

Okay, try to arch your back more. It would be better to show a video of you lifting a heavy weight, because that's when weaknesses and mistakes in form will become apparent.

One of the first things you need to learn is how to explode upward with the weight and then how to squat under the bar. If you can explode upward with the bar and get it to your stomach then you should be able to quickly jump under the bar and squat up with it. Even if the weight is light enough for you to not have to do this you should still that way you are developing the correct form. Also as you explode up with the weight you need to be raising you heels of the floor. This helps you get a couple extra inches of lift before you drop under the bar. Keep at it and feel free to ask my advice any time.

I agree with Baldrick! The weight you are lifting in the video is nothing close to what you are capable of pulling and heavier weight will quickly show your form. When you extend your heels off of the floor it will almost naturally cause you to arc your body.
