I don't usually like to write whole articles about
supplements because I believe diet and training to be
far more important than any combination of
supplements. However there are a few supplements that
work, creatine being the most notable of all of them.

Whatcha think?

go figure.......i thought creatine would be best 30 minutes prior to workout to saturate the muscles...........maybe i'll start trying supplementation post-workout and see if I get better results.

great article layne......very informative........i'll make sure Rob reads it too cause he's always asking me stuff about it. This will clear up alot of the questions he asks me on a regular basis

Layne.....Remember to go pickup that camera today from the mailroom. I don't know if you have a preference.....but the gym should be pretty empty tomorrow when we're training arms if we wanna take some pics in there during the workout.

I read up on the sucralose yesterday........much better then nurtrasweet. (tastes good too)

FYI - the micronized creatine dissolved much faster yesterday in that Propel stuff then it does in Powerade...........why do you think? (I mean visibly faster.....only one shake of the bottle needed)

Interesting, since the propel is sweetened with sucralose, then there are less sucralose particles in the propel then there are particles of sugar in regular gatorade. What may have happened is the gatorade solution may have been saturated with particles and thus some of the creatine would not dissolve, where as there were less particles in the propel and thus it all dissolved. Only thing I can think of.
Peace

hmmm......i thought sugar is what helped make the creatine dissolve? (correct me if i'm wrong) I've had all kinds of trouble gettin creatine to dissolve completely in water. (even the micronized)

Next test should be Propel vs Cranberry juice cause that stuff works wonders on making the stuff dissolve........but also has alot of sugar. (is the natural sugar from the concentrated fruit juice vs powerade's sugar make a difference?....are they different types of sugar?)

just something to rub your brow about.....

well no sucralose is the sweetener in propel and you need 1/3 g sucralose for every gram of sugar for an equal sweetness. Thus there are a third of the dissolved particles in solution...we'll talk more thoroughly bout it later. BTW...got the digi cam today :D

we're starting to get alot more views on this thread....especially from the other supplements thread......so it may be beneficial to post the final conclusion when we get this all said and done.

Don't drain the battery on that cam before i get home.......they suck juice faster then Darcy n 3 beers.....

The article was written well, good reading, but I found some little bits of wrong info.

Creatine for one isn't a derivative of three amino acids, it's just one - glycine, and it has a methyl group and imino group (spelt correct) on the NH2 group of the acid instead of the Hydrogen atoms.

I can back this up because methionine is one of two sulphur containg amino acids that s rarely in any chain and usually only there to help form secondary protein structures.

Your right, it's not a steroid, for the main reason it's not aromatic, it doesn't even have a saturated ring in it.

ATP isn't a source. To be a source it would have to be stored and kept somewhere, but it's constantly being synthesised and used, then resynthesised from ADP.

Thats all.

The rest is great, keep up the good work.

Source can be interpreted as several different things depending upon what YOU take the word to be. I believe I mentioned in the article that ATP is a transient carrier of energy and cannot be stored...if not then I apologize.

Fit_chris,

Where did you find that creatine is glycine?

Excellent article - you answered a bunch of my questions and synthesized the answers well. I say this because most other sites just focus on one element of the informatin rather than cover the whole isue like this. Also you didn't lse me in the science, which is always nice.

This was definitely a great article but it is a little old by now. Now there are different types of creatine that are supposedly better (I sure hope so since they cost a lot)

They are NOT any better. In fact if anything they are not as good as monohydrate

Awesome article. It's nice to see people are starting to move away from the 'creatine is a steroid' stereotype. Or that it's "cheating". If creatine is cheating then stop drinking protein shakes.

Man that is good to know. That is going to save me tons of money, thanks.
