What do you guys think of this bench? It says nothing about a weight limit which always scares me as I'm looking for one with 600 lbs, but on a tight budget.

Looks like that one has a max combined weight of 450 lbs:

This is Body Solid's heavy bench if you wanted something to handle more weight:

Bringing this one back before I buy a bench. Would this be the same bench as the first one? I need a bench that can at least hold 600lbs. The guy wants $80
Thanks,
Slim

That does look like the powerline logo on there in your photos.
I don't know where that dealer got that weight rating from, its not on Body Solids site. I would say that for $80 you would be getting a good deal on that bench, it looks to be in great condition and with a MSRP of $245 you are getting a great price. I would get it and give it a shot, I have no doubt that it will handle whatever you do to it but even if you decide you want something better, bigger or stronger I still think you wold be able to sell it on for at least the $80 you would put into it.

Thanks Wildtim. Its a Powerline for sure. I just dont know what model # . He also has two used Maxicam benches but Im running out of space in my little workout area. I know these are the real deal benches. He want's $140 for them together.

Yea its hard to fit fixed positioin benches in a home gym space
(unless your Ironwill)

That's all unfortunate too. Those maxicam benches are suuuuweett! For $140 for both? Yea, what a pain.
Sorry, I just liked the looks of them and having a couple of commercial benches myself (one temporarily as I've got to sell it), I definitely appreciate them!
The powerline will probably be fine for you. Like Tim said, keep your eyes peeled for something else and you'll be able to get your money out of the Powerline if you need to upgrade.
I bought a powerblock bench for $75 last year, found a Cybex bench for $50 last may and sold the powerblock for $100. $25 for a >$600 commercial bench, plus a years worth of use out of the other? Not a bad day!

Cool! Thanks fellas. I'll go with the Powerline bench and make sure those sabers are locked and loaded. I'll keep my fingers crossed when I put the 405 up for 5-6 reps. If I dont post back after tomorrow's trial with the bench, then you know I didnt make it. Lmao. Jk
Slim,
Thanks

LOL, I think you'll be ok. Besides as long as the rack is good, you'll likely only get a solid scare and a sore back.
But I'm no engineer, so don't hold me to any of this!

I used to own a Body Solid GFID225 bench. I called BS and asked them about weight ratings when I sold it. I wanted to put it in my CL ad. They told me every bench they make is rated to at least 600lbs but most have never had the max tested till they broke. I couldn't believe that because for legal purposes they would need to know. I just think they don't like telling you your bench will break at a certain weight.
Anyway, you will be safe with at least 600lbs.

If you really have some concerns I would set up for doing a shrug off the safeties, just do it while kneeling on the bench to test the capacity. This might break it but at least you would know and with only a few inches of ROM over the safeties you would be very unlikely to hurt yourself if the bench did give.

Well it passed the test today. I did what you said with the shrug test and the bench didnt make that ping noise that you would expect.
So I went in to do some benching and I noticed that 315 felt like 405. I dont know if its because I havent hit the iron in about 3 months or is it because the weight is in a carpeted area. Maybe its a combination of the two or just in my mind. It just didnt feel normal, like there was some extra limiting factor other than gravity and weight.
Sorry for the venting and whining, but it just didnt feel right on this carpet. Also I never took a 3 month hiatus in the gym since I started in 1997. I'll just keep it up for a few weeks to see if its just that im out of shape or time to make changes.
