A little why I am doing this log:
Well, Tank asked me to do this log because I seemed skeptical of the amount of hype Controlled Labs get on here. I think they are a great company, I am seriously curious what all this hype is all about. I have only tried samples of CL products so this should be interesting. I am cutting for a show so calories are gonna be getting lower and I am gonna be tired all day and need to keep as much muscle as possible. I have tried just about every type of creatine out there(besides Size on and MAN) and really have gotten the best results from simple monohydrate. I am curious how Green Mag will stand up and if I will see any difference from all the other creatines I have tried. I also have taken bulk bcaas, leucine, and EAA pills before. I am curious if Purple Wraath will deliver better results than all these. I am going to be as objective as possible in this log. I am excited for this.

How will I be gaging the effectiveness of products:
Green Mag:
Amount of strength kept while cutting
Stamina in the gym
The new Lemonade taste ;)

Purple Wraath
Amount of muscle saved while cutting
Endurance
focus
RECOVERY

can't wait to see what you think of the CL products. i havent noticed too much since I started supplementing with EAA's/BCAA's. i was hoping mainly to reduce DOMS, cause i have the worst, but haven't noticed anything positive in that regard.

DOMS right now is terrible, especially in the legs.. back when i was bulking i felt like i could lift the body part every other day.. now i just feel like an old sore man

honestly, if i wasnt cutting i wouldnt use it.. dextrose is to high of a gi and bloats the hell out of me.. which i dont mind while bulking but i hate it so much while cutting so i pay the extra money but when bulking its oats and dextrose all the way for me

Good Luck, I know CL is a good company but they are hyped too much IMO on the forums but hey they gotta make money i guess.

About my day: Woke up late and got some awesome sleep last night. Lifted with a friend of mine which is nice. I think i can start to have good workouts again since. I mixed my PW with this crystal light stuff in a big bottle. Tasted awesome and like one of those grape tootsie roll suckers. The green mag lemonade tasted damn good too. Not country time lemonade :P.. more of a generic walmart brand lemonade haha but still good nonetheless

Strength:8/10 My bench dropped a bit.. but i am doing 3 hours of cardio a week and eating not many carbs at all so come on i dont think anyone can expect their strength to stay full.. only lost two reps so not to bad

Energy/Focus: 8/10Awesome focus through chest.. noticed a bit of the BA tingles near the chest workout.. however biceps i was a bit tired near the end. Focus was still good though so hopefully i can have some more endurance near the end for the smaller body parts.

40 set workout?! Intense!

I love high volume.. i average 18-21 sets per body part and thats when cutting. it is weird, when i am in the gym i dont feel like i do enough and dont feel like the traditional 15 sets is enough for me.. workouts are pretty quick too, hour average or so(not including stuff like abs and cardio)

how many scoops of PW? did you take it during the workout or pre?

also, try it without crystal light with 20 ounces or more cold water per scoop.

how much water did you use with green mag?

nice first day :)

Ya man, I agree that the hype is justified when it comes to the Green Mag taste. I like it better then Country Time, but thats just because whenever I used to drink that stuff, I always got this weird ass, hard to explain, tangy/burny feeling in my throat, haha. Maybe its just me.

Anyway, awsome workout man. Your high volume work is always impressive. Keep it up man.

what diet are you using? What are your macros? Personally I love Laynes diet (he has a write up on bb.com,. very helpful) I cut for 10 weeks on it and put on streangth like i had when i was bulking

Its all about carb timing i have found, the second time i cut (only 4 weeks) my school schedule was wack so couldnt time my carbs as good so i lost a little streangth.

Have you ever thought of doing 6-8 bulks and 2-3 week cut cycles?

thats what i am doing (after summer, gotta keep da abz for summer)

i have about 50 carbs preworkout/breakfast 50 pwo and 25 meal after.. i have the luxury now to workout when i wake up.. i eat 300 grams of protein a day.. at this point i am trying to lose as much possible fat as i am trying to do a show in two months and i think i am screwed..

i may do that bulking then cut cycle when i bulk this fall/winter.. hopefully it will limit fat

depending on the amount of muscle i maintain, i really think a lot will have to deal with diet.. i mean i have used creatine for 5 years and bcaas/eaas or whatever for the last 6 months so i mean i am not not expecting steroid like gains here but if they work better than any other creatine i have used or other supplemental bcaas with recovery then i will be extremely impressed

edit: should also mention i dont work as a janitor anymore(grueling crap for 8 hours all day) and my job now(waiter) is much more "bodybuilding friendly" than moving crap all day for 8 hours then trying to workout after.. this should help me a lot with workouts as well

I'm a skeptic of all the CL hype as well.

In your reviews, please compare them to your bulk BCAA/EAA/Creatine supplementation.

Also, have you used Citrulline Malate or Beta Alanine outside what was in Rag?

I like your logs. Sub'ed.

Oh ok. Did you notice any strength gains in those 7 days? Usually it takes a couple weeks to notice any with BA.

Oh yea. Don't think I haven't noticed. Syntrax, as far as I'm concerned, is blacklisted from my shopping list for life. And to think I was considering their Matrix 5.0 for pre-bed. IT probably has like 10% micellar casein and the reps market it for prebed? Oh noooo don't sue me anyone for making a guess! As for CL giving you samples to log -- that was awesome of them. Depending on your review of PW, I will get some to try it myself.

I have a few friends at the gym who swear by PW. But for them, spending money isn't an issue. I want to see what frugal people like you :) who closer reflect my shopping habits, have to say about PW.

I have a few friends at the gym who swear by PW. But for them, spending money isn't an issue. I want to see what frugal people like you :) who closer reflect my shopping habits, have to say about PW.

yea nothing really from BA and the samples..

damn i know.. i ordered sunday night syntrax matrix for a mrp type thing for work now i wish i havent.. oh well

Haha i am very tight with my money when it comes to supps. I evaluate everything with prices and so forth.. should be interesting to see if the results from pw are worth the extra costs compared to bulk

About my day: Woke up and was ready to bust out some legs. At this point strength is becoming not an issue really, more get good solid reps in and feel the burn i guess lol. Definetly not green mag or PW related but i notice i am breaking out more which is not good lol. So i took one scoop of PW before and one after workout and i must say i had better results with it. Getting out of my car for the gym i experienced the BA tingles which was pretty cool. I had them all the way through squat. Squat felt heavy today, like really heavy. Again, has more to do with my diet than anything. I need food, cant wait to bulk lol. Felt strong at the end of workout which is a plus.

Strength:7/10 Squat was damn heavy today. I am doing higher reps however, but still 315 use to be a piece of cake and i use to be able to do it for 12-15 probably on a good day. Now 8 is damn tough. I am focusing more on form though. However near the end of my workout, strength was still up so thats good.

Energy/Focus: 8.5/10Beginning of the workout wasnt that great but i had great energy near the end and through cardio

Hey man, I was just wondering if this was your first show ever. I am considering doing a show, but I am planning on bulking until January next year and then based on where I am, make my decision. I want to give myself alot of time to cut down since it will be my first show and I dont completly know what to expect from my body on the first go round. Good luck though man. I will watch and see how it goes for you. Hopefully I can learn alot from your experience and apply some of that to my first show.

Haha, that would be sweet if everyone else was tiny. Good luck with it man and much respect for going after it. I definently want to get involved with one at some point. Be sure to let me know how it goes and what you find as your preperation continues.

About my day: Woke up super early, like 7 and ate and took my green mag, fell asleep to 11 then went and did cardio. Decent energy throughout cardio, nothing out of the ordinary. Recovery from chest and legs is pretty good, but it probably helps i am getting over 8 hours of sleep now as well and not working all day. I accidently had my purple wraath sit in the freezer and froze, well a lot of it.. and well it tastes awesome mixed with this propel crystal light type thing.. I loved it partially frozen, most refreshing cardio drink in awhile.

About my day: Sorry for the late update, i went to work after my workout and didnt get a chance to update but well recovery is decent so far.. I had a good pretty fast workout with high volume of course. I am only resting 30-45 seconds in between sets to get a good workout/pump in

Strength:7/10 I see why in like lifting videos, you see pro bodybuilders when dieting lifting weights that really dont seem heavy.. i lifted with barely any rest in between sets (30-45 seconds max) and i was taxed..

Energy/Focus: 8.5/10Good energy throughout the workout and cardio. For eating as little as i do, caffeine is a life saver for me.

About my day: Back day today.. I do deadlifts every two weeks while cutting because i find my body cannot recover as well from legs so my deadlifts suffer greatly. I have kept on my diet almost dead on. Made a supp order with some goodies and got two boxes of thyrotabs.. any suggestions on dosing, i was just gonna run 3 a day for 6 weeks.. gonna up my cardio an extra hour a week.. 10 minutes preworkout, starting next week. So far recovery has been pretty good and my energy/strength hasnt suffered to greatly. I am about 183ish right now.. hoping to get down to 170 for the show at least lol..(some will be water weight). I did some of those wotw and totw to win $75 in free and hopefully i find out soon if i win so i can order some ultra peptide for work. Currently i am using matrix 5.0(ordered prescandal lol) but want a more casein blend. Right now i am sipping my pwo shake of 10 grams leucine, scoop of eas whey, scoop of matrix, 50 grams of wms during cardio and eating when i get home. I seem to like this quite a bit instead of waiting after cardio. I am also doing a light bicep/hamstring day with back because they r my weak points.. nothing to much, 5 sets of ten.

Strength:8/10 Solid strength overall. Didnt deadlift today so I had more energy for the rest of my workout and rows especially.

Energy/Focus: 8/10
Again, good energy throughout the workout and maintained focus.

Ah man, that sucks about your job. Sorry to hear about that; I also applied at GNC. You'll get it ;). They hire anything that is over 18 with a pulse. Their employee benefits and discounts are not really that good though, so I hear. So I was a bit disappointed. It was like you can only buy something 25% off once every three weeks or some bull**** like that. Good luck though on your quest to employment.

Awsome workout man. Good luck with the GNC job. If you really can keep returned supplements, then that is an amazing perk. It doesnt seem that you would save that much with a 25% discount vs just buying stuff online, but if you get stuff for free, you cant go wrong.

Ya, I actually have seen a few good deals when I have checked it out. For the most part though, its just too much for me unless I need something asap. I went into one the other day and saw 5lb ON Whey for $45 and I just bought 10lbs of ON online for $54.

I must admit though, I love GNC's shaker cups. They have the little rubber thing on the lid so it seals tight and doesnt leak.

Shrugs, calves, forearms. I believe I go a lot heavier on those.

On bench (incline or flat) I can only go a couple of times with 225. My best lift with chest is flyes, where I sometimes do 55s.

Keep it up, I am watching this one close. I am thinking about jumping on board with CL.

About my day: Decent day in the gym today. My gym was getting the seated leg curl repadded so i couldnt do my favorite hamstring exercise :(! so i had to double up on standing leg curls lol. I could of done SDLs but i think they are useless for hamstrings and studies showing what muscle group and how much of a body part is worked during each exercise shows they barely hit the hamstrings at all.
Strength: 7.5/10 Dang, squats sure are gettin heavy :(. They drop again oh well.

Energy/Focus: 9/10Early morning workout again but awesome focus, so this is a HUGE plus in my book.

Dropset after last rep from 65 to 35

One legged leg extension

interesting, although personally that is by far the best hamstrings workout for me. It probably depends quite a bit on MMC, and what you intend to work.

Also, DB SLDL seem to take even more tension off of traps/back and onto hams, for me at least.

How is the contest prep going by the way?

pretty good, im pretty worried about conditioning but i think once everything comes down to it ill be ok..

doing cardio 4 hours a week or so and im now doing carb cycling to help me lose that last bit of fat

its weird, somedays in the gym and at home i feel like i look absolutely awesome and will be ready in a second then there is other times i feel like i look like trash and should just give up

i think water is playing a huge factor in that.. i retain water pretty easily as my diet is pretty damn high in sodium/lactose/artific sweeteners.. once i cut those out i honestly wouldnt be suprised if i lost 5-10 lbs of water

Ya, water weight can definently be an issue, especially when you are busy and need to find easy to transport food. Sometimes I will grab some lunch meat and throw that on whole wheat bread. Its higher in sodium then I would like, but I figure I would rather get in some good carbs and protein at the expense of some extra sodium, then miss a meal.

So do you have your posing routine down and have your suit picked out?

Thats why everyone says each contest you prepare for is a huge learning experience. There are so many different tactics you can try to see what works best for you. Have you considered other types of fish? Tilapia is a great source, and is delicious. 3.99 for a pound and a half at aldi's. My diet has pretty much consisted of that lately. I bet you are aware of Scivation's cutting books/information? It is amazing stuff; and they have a free download at their site.

Matty good progress man, looks like you've been working real hard for this comp. Congrats on the REP spot too, awesome.

the fruity poptarts were always my favorite, I like the strawberry and then the blueberry, i actually liked them a lil better without the frosting on top, but its been so damn long i hardly remember. I just know that I tried the chocolate ones when they first came out and I thought they were a bit too sweet, but if i remember correctly i didn't warm them, that coulda been the problem....WOW, its amazing how dieting and eating perfectly clean can leave such vivid memories in our minds about what we used to eat

I'm already planning my post competition BINGE and i'm not even thinking about competing until next July....first stop, McDonalds for the first time in 4 years, i'm in desperate need of a big mac and fries

overall, i am pretty pleased with it.. let me give u a quick review so far

Purple wraath - decent energy, not to much out of the ordinary.. good recovery on low calories.. i have kept a lot of muscle from the looks of it cutting so that is good..

Green mag- absolutely awesome taste, didnt notice to much compared to other creatines.. my strength is going down but if i was doing a bit more reasonable cut i think green mag would help keep it up better.. still though strength has been good considering i am all the way down to 180

thanks man!ive decided the PA championships are more of a tune up show for the tri-state championships

i was talking to a bodybuilder/nutritionist today at my gym and he thinks in 5 weeks ican be in real contest shape.. and just use this show to get comfortable with competing

I think that is a really good idea Matt. An extra competition can only be beneficial for you. The more you learn the better off you'll be at the next and future shows.

No doubt in my mind that 5 weeks is some solid time for you to be contest ready.

I think three years will definitly be some good time to put on quality size bro! Maybe you'll catch the competition bug though and want to compete a little sooner. Hard tobelieve you'll only be 20 next year haha.
