I need eyebow waxing information!

It would seem the little korean girl who does my nails can never muster enough english to answer my questions, other than to say "I help you missy, it be okay, only hurt quick - fast, in a minute". Now this coupled with the fear that i will look like my sister who get her brow done so thin it almost looks like it is not there, keeps me from waxing!

My question to you ladies is - If i decide i don't like having my eye brows waxed, how bad will it look and or itch as it grows back in?

Frankly tweezing hurts like hell, i tend not to do it actually- but I am scared to have the gal take too much off then be p.o-d AND have it look terrible.

So any info you can impart will be appreciated.

Also about how often do you need to have it re-done?

I am light brown / dark blonde in brow color if that matters.

Thanks ladies.

Try eyebrow threading.

What's eyebrow threading? (Please let it be a less painful way of fixing them :D )

Threading not really less painful than waxing or plucking, but it is far more efficient, so the process isn't as lengthy as plucking. However, since you're dealing with a thread instead of wax, you don't have the issue of commitment once the wax has been applied. Mind you, I've not yet had my eyebrows threaded. I've also never had anything waxed.

^ Thanks, I had no idea that existed. I tweeze or if I'm in no mood for the pain I use own of those eyebrow razor things. LOL

Waxing....ugh I had a terrible experience waxing my legs. It was painful and when the hair grew back I had tons of ingrown hair. It hurt like hell so I either shave or use hair removal cream. <----just in case you ever consider waxing. ;)

From speaking with people who have tried both threading and waxing, it seems that waxing eyebrows leaves redness on the skin for some time after the procedure. Threading doesn't. Just FYI, if you plan on having eyebrows fixed for a same-day event.

I have never had an eyebrow treatment, so this is just "something I heard". Repeated eyebrow waxing or plucking may lead to a slowing or halt in new growth. It happened to one of my relatives and she swears that is why. Now she has some balding eyebrows.

I have no idea if that's true, but it might be worth investigating!

If she knows what she's doing it will be over in about 1 minute.. I was amazed at how painless and fast eyebrow waxing is. If she understands enough english, just say not to thin them too much? I got mine done for my wedding, and it was great.

Anyways, I've been plucking since then, but to have someone shape them once, was enough to pluck by :p

Had my eyebrows waxed for the first time for senior pictures. LOVED the difference it made in my appearance. Now, I just shave them myself. Not perfect, but good enough for me.

Our resident homo is very correct, and dead on (as expected ;) )

I've gotten my eyebrows waxed, threaded and plucked. Here are my experiences.

Waxing
A quick twinge of pain. It can be uncomfortable if your aesthetician waxes your brows w/out testing the temperature first. Freshly hot wax on the skin will make the skin extremely irritated and flushed red. I also had a VERY misguided aesthetician (when i was living in Korea) put RUBBING ALCOHOL on my brows after waxing  (i didn't see it coming or else i would've cursed him out in english. i didn't know how to curse in Hangul)

Good
Quick, lasts longer than shaving or just tweezing alone (imo)

Bad
Can leave your skin red, irritated. If u get a so-so aesthetician you could be plucking elements of the waxing paper left behind on your brows...

Also: in time, hairs in those areas could possibly grow thinner or just stop growing. I haven't had that experience yet (been waxing them for 5 or so years)

Threading
Takes a very strategic hand. I never watched someone do it but as a person who had it done, to me it takes a bit longer than waxing. With waxing its quick rush of pain. 1...2...3...PULL! twinge of pain! With threading, the aesthetician manipulates to fine threads around each hair in your brow to pull them out. Its a longer lingering pain IMO. End results are equalivant to when i got waxed (just depends on the artistry & skill of the aesthetician).

Good
good for people who don't like the hot wax, you still get a great arch uhhh...can't think of anything else

Bad
can be a bit more painful than threading, especially if your skin there is more sensitive. Also, you still get the redness afterwards just like waxing. It might not be AS red as if you'd wax.

Tweezing
time consuming...and better for clean up in between waxings or threadings.

I get mine waxed whenever I think they look too overgrown and I've gotten too lazy with the plucking. Once a month or so.

It is not itchy at all growing back, and the initial waxing can be minorly painful, but the last time I had mine done, I didn't even cry a tear.

Make sure you tell the aesthetician what you want before the wax is applied! If you don't want pencil thin eyebrows, make sure you tell them what you DO want.

I'd go for the waxing, but I'd find someone you can really communicate with to do it. Look through some magazines and clip out a couple of photos of eyebrow looks you like to show your stylist.
