Feel free to add to this with your own brags.
I woke up this morning and for the first time in about a year, I had a 25" waist. YAY! About this time last year, I gained 10 pounds while on prednisone and have been trying (with varying degrees of sincerity) to take it off since then. The last few weeks, I finally made an honest attempt to clean up my diet and have been reaping the results. Obviously, I've put on a few pounds of muscle because my weight is remaining steady while my leanness increases, and this morning, the measuring tape told me the good news. WOOOOOO!
I'm celebrating with a protein shake.

I hub lifted a 45 to chest level for the first time. I also hub lifted a 45 (right hand) and a 35 (left hand) at the same time (only got about 2" off the ground).

You do have something to brag about, you can go to the pool and not feel totally humiliated. I dont swim, I look like sh!t, not good enough to even make an attemp to take my shirt off. So think about that one!!!

a couple of weeks ago, I was dealifting away and some guy was straining his neck to see how much I was lifting. Sure it was only 35kg, but it still shocked him :p
Ha ha I love that!!!! I got some bloke nearly walk into a bench because he couldn't quite believe I was doing chest presses with 18kg dumbbells :D
Another bloke looked totally gobsmacked after he and a mate had spent 15 minutes straining, heaving and grunting doing deadlifts (with appalling form, I might add...) with the 40kg bar, and I asked them if they'd done, picked itup and walked off with it (yes I picked it up with perfect form.. ;) ) and took it to the weights area to do my bent over rows :D
That's all I have to brag about - at this moment I would probably kill for a 25" waist....

I once embarrassed I guy by walking up to him and saying: "You know, that deadlift of yours really is no good. We should lift together, and I'll teach you properly. I can do that weight of yours at least 10x10". We did lift together, and only recently he pulled 145 kg instead of his sorry 60. :) It made me soooo proud of him. (only to realize half an hour later that the bastard had beaten my by 2.5kgs, grmbl..)
And only last week I was maxing out on squats on Sunday morning, and all the guys were checking out what the **** I was doing, especially the one who was squatting before I started, he was struggling away at 60-70kg, I did 115.

It would certainly be fun but it would not be an easy line of work to make a living in by any means

Like a cadence, just a trot, then ill run transitions. Where I start from a jog, and steadily ease into a sprint then decrease back to a jog, ill do that all throughout my run depending on how I feel. My little sis is 17 and she trains very hard, she is the only thin one in my family, shes got a tredmill in her room. I have her train me on the cardio. So so far this week ive done a 10mile and a 5mile. I do train late because I work second shift and dont get home till sbout 11:00pm, slam a protein shake and run my a$$ off (pardon my language). Im about 245 right now, and im trying to cut down to 210, I think thats in the ballpark of my LBM.

No problem, anytime. That's what we're all here for, to help each other out and better ourselves physically and mentally. I dont run during the day because I would die, it is hard after a hard 8hr day of straight lifting heavy parts, but I gotta lose this weight.

Thank you, its not easy. Actually to run past the burn is the hardest thing of running. I hate it, but I dont think about it. Having a running partner helps a lot too (my lil sis) so I jsut concentrate on keeping the same cadence as her, then I forget about the burn. I cant run on a tredmill, one its annoying. Two, im a little heavy for that to run on one, unless its a heavy built one. And three, I love running outside, idk why.

Running outside is better as you have to fight terrain and you engage your core more.
also you dont have the help of the tready 'pushing' you along with its movement so you don't get a false idea of your running ability.
I need a good training partner :(
I just randomly spot guy friends atthe gym but its not really the same

I performed a full-contact glare-down on my kryptonite, coconut pudding, and tossed that sucka into the trash without a bite (hubby, the lovely saboteur, brought the vile stuff home with neither prior notice nor consult. He's lucky he's still living).
I am unafraid to burn it off and bust it off, but my weakness lies in the preemptive measures. Hence, victory pour moi.

Edit-Well it wouldnt be as much fun online lulu, but we could challenge eachother. See how much we can run, ill even let you use the tredmill.

Well just got back from my cardio, and im a little pissed. I havent weighed myself in a two weeks. I came back from a bike ride and weighed myself out of curiousity on an empty stomach, and im 15lbs up. Back to 260. At this rate im not going to hit 225 by the end of next month :( . Which whas my goal of the summer. Mind you, I cut about 90% of the bad stuff out of my diet, and there wasnt even that much to cut out. Ive been riding the bike for about two weeks, and as you all know, started running saturday.

You definitely need to measure, that's all I go by, I would be so discouraged if I didn't...granted its a little slower on the results, but when you do it like once a month, it can feel pretty damn good. You could be retaining water...how's the sodium?? I know I keep mine right around 900mg a day...If I eat out that's 900 mg on its own...maybe you added a little muscle too, not 15 pounds, but maybe like 1 lb. Don't get discouraged, cause if you quit think of how many people will be thinking I knew he couldn't do it, break the cycle, I know I have people like that in my life...I hope you don't, but sometimes its a good thing, when I feel like giving up I just think about those fat loosers who are just jealous LOL.

Your scale could be off, scales F'ing lie, i hate them, the best relief was when I threw mine away...took so much off of me. I do sneak a weigh in once in a while at the gym, but that's just because people ask me how much i have lost...it's been the same answer for like three months too LOL, cause I refuse to weigh myself. Sounds crazy but you could be doing too much cardio ( I forget how it works, i'll ask my trainer again). I only do 30 minutes a day...
Oh and I take pics once every two weeks...profile full body shots, even if you dont post them I have a progress folder set up on my computer...it really helps, sometimes I skip a couple of pics if I know I'm going to loose motivation just so I see a bigger change.

OH I Remember what my trainer said, when you do too much cardio, it depletes muscle tissue, you loose some of it if you do too much, sooo, you loose muscle, you gain fat...thats what I'm thinking he said, I'm not an expert and of course you could go talk to the next person and they'll tell you I'm wrong as I'm sure someone on here will probably try to argue with me about but if I remember correctly that's what he said, but I will double check, he's really smart and I totally trust everything he tells me and that's hard for me to do with trainers, i've had four LOL, took me a while to find a great one!

That's AWESOME girl! CONGRATS! :D

It might have been a meal or something man, maybe the carbs just sat differently, or you weighed yourself at a different time than usual... people's weight fluctuates alot depending on the food they've eaten and the time of day it is.
I know for example if I throw in some creatine, and an all you can eat buffet (with the water to balance out 10 g or so of creatine) I still mass 270 odd pounds... by the next day, I'll be back down to 240 odd.
To make you feel better though, I'd like to brag that two years ago I won a gym benchpress competition in my weight class... purely because I was the only person in the 300lb + category. Score!

well, there you go I guess. if you're loading on creatine, your water weight fluctuates alot... it does get a bit less...er... up and downy after you're on maintenance though... also, if you can, keep drinking alot of water.
It might have been your answer maybe.
Also, if you can't handle full meals, try just protein shakes made with water, or a few spoons of peanut butter, anything high in protein, just to keep that metabolism going... just... don't overdo it though.

1lb of lean body mass will only burn about 15 calories at rest during the day. Cardio, in my opinion, is what has to be concentrated on for fat loss (along with diet, of course) rather than weightlifting. (note: this is for fat loss).
All in all I guess Im just saying that if you had the choice to devote time to either cardio, or weightlifting, I'd go with the former. Obviously both together is the ideal though.

Wow, lots to brag about on this thread.
No too big clothes for me and I haven't made much progress in fatloss but I've made some good gains in lifting with the kid.
But I did go dirtbiking on the white knuckle goat trails of North Idaho and the guy leading the ride told us that he had never had a group finish the loop, they always bailed about half way and took the roads back. Myself, my buddy Lisa and my son made the whole loop with the guy. He was quite amazed that the first group to finish it was 2 chicks and a 14 yo boy. 76 miles of tight steep narrow dirtbike trails 10" wide in some spots along the edge of steep cliffs, falling is NOT an option.
He was really surprised when I showed up again the next day to ride with some other friends and we did 80 miles. I had told him I was coming back when I left Saturday and he just smiled and said "okay, but I bet you'll be too tired." ;)
Dragging a big dirtbike around is a lot easier when you are used to lifting heavy weights!

See I'm needing to loose weight, and all I really do is eat 6 perfect meals and weights, I hardly put effort into my cardio. I skip days I half ass it at times, Im just now starting to be more strict with myself...I think 90% of it is food. I'm also just trying to maintain my LBM...I lift 4 days a week.

In the end its just calories in<calories out. Whether the calories out is increased via cardio, or calories in is decreased via nutrition, its all the same. If you keep up the strict diet and weightlifting, it'll come off in no time.

See, I used to be able to run to Palmer street when I started, then when I got a little quicker to Dickens, then to the end of the golf course, then to the boulder past the end of the golf course, and this morning - I made it to the big tree past the boulder.
Yes, that is all totally serious. And I did it in 15 minutes.

One of the things I've been focusing on in the gym is my stretching, mainly because I noticed in the last year that I'd become a lot more creaky and joint-achy after a workout if I didn't do it. So I stretch before every workout and have actually noticed I'd been making pretty good progress at getting more and more flexible.
I just got home from the gym and for pure curiosity's sake, I tried doing the splits and almost made it! I haven't been able to do that since high school, and then only after months of stretching in preparation for cheerleading. HA!

Yup!!!! Unfortunately, I've been focusing on my running and cardio for the last 3 weeks.......getting back in the gym tomorrow for some squats! Yay! (yes, I go past parallel)....I like the feeling of lifting that heavy weight and even though it's not that much - 170 - knowing that I'm lifting more than some of the guys and with better form. Pete digs that too! Also noticed my biceps are starting to not impress me so much, so I'll definitely be doing some curls! And who knew? I actually have pecs under my breastices! Woohoo!
My other big deal? I made it a mile and a half - down to the end of the road at the flower pot which is WAY past the boulder or the tree in 20 minutes. I had to double-check my watch! Slower coming back, so I did the whole 3 miles in 43 minutes. Going to enter us both in a 5k for the end of August.

HA!
Also, try Glucosomine and Orange Triad. They work wonders.

I've heard of the first but what does it do exactly?
My main problem is that I'm really bad at taking supplements regularly. I'll do it for a few weeks and then fall off the wagon for months at a time.

Glucosomine is for ligament/tendon support and joint lubrication, its pretty much essential for anyone over 25 that is active, along with a good multi. Orange Triad combines the glucosomine with a multi and a few other joint/tendon support supps. and yea it helps, i can touch my head to either of my knee's

Yay! It always feels good to be lifting again. Enjoy! Great job on the running too. I absolutely love running and am constantly racing against my past times on the same course. Good luck on the 5k, that ought to be a lot of fun. I've never raced but always intended to. But, I've gotten so used to running alone that I don't know how I'd deal with the crowd. I guess there's a first time for everything huh?

I cleared the small doubles on the MX track Saturday night (first time I've cleared a jump) and took 3rd place out of 6th, beating 2 girls that usually smoke me!
Then Sunday went trail running with my dogs and got hit by a bambi they spooked. Scared the heck out of bambi and gave me a big ol bruise on my inside thigh just above my knee!

Last week I managed 5 reps with the 40lb DB on flat bench presses! And that was after 3 sets of 6 with 35lb DBs.
Today I did 5 overhead squats with 55lbs! Last time I tried overhead squats I couldn't even do the bar.
