Ah, the legendary squatting ability of weightlifters. One of my favorites caught on tape is this 320kg (705 lbs) by Stefan Botev at a bodywight of only 120kg (really small for a super), at the very end of an exhausting workout. He is pretty much burned out here after snatching about 12 attempts at 190-200kg, cleaning up to 250kg, and doing his other squats. This is a clip from Iron Mind's 1995 World Championships training hall tape, which I have.

I believe that most of the top superheavyweights (105+kg) in the world squat in the 800+ lb. range raw, below parallel, if not ATG. Here is a lightweight (69kg) lifter, Dabaya, last years world champion, doing some easy front squatting:

In case you were wondering, practically all Olympic lifters squat ATG because they need strength through the full range of motion, in order to recover from their very deep, heavy cleans and snatches.
no disrespect to powerlifters, but I am always more impressed with the close-stance ATG form of olympic lifters squatting big weight RAW, great vids Baldrick Botev and Dabaya are BEASTS!

So much more impressive...half those PL lifts are almost nrecognizable to me as the lifts they claim to be...
No negging necessary fellas I understand its a different sport...Im only expressing my opinion...OLY lifters are SO much stronger and more powerful that PLs IMHO.
Again just one mans personal opinion.
ROM matters to me.

What makes them so impressive is not the weight but how they are performed, they are done with narrow stance, high bar, and with famous olympic lifting squat tech with knees drifting over toes. It just seems impossible the kind of #'s they do in this style.
