Not really, but my doctor found a lump in my boob.
I'm 18, so it's obviously not breast cancer. I'm just wondering why in the hell I have to bother getting a sonogram for something that's going to end up being a benign tumor or cyst.
Any other ladies get these before? Did you just leave it alone or did you end up getting it removed?

I had a friend back in college that had one removed at 22. A few years later i caught up with her and she was glad she did, although i haven't spoken to her recently.

It could still be cancer. I've heard of 19-21 year olds getting it, rare but still happens.

Exactly - it may be unlikely, but it does still need to be checked out.

Alright you Negative Nancys. My doctor said, "At your age, it's not breast cancer," and proceeded to tell me other possibilities and what I need to do to make sure. I don't have a history of breast cancer in my family, so it is exceptionally unlikely it is that.

Yeah it does suck having to pay for medical stuff only to find out that its benign.
But i would rather have the peace of mind that everything is ok than not know for sure.
But it is your body and its totally up to you what you do with it :)

My mom would go crazy if I didn't get it checked out and it would be stupid of me not to, just in case. It's just a pain in the arse, though.

And if it's a cyst, it may need to be drained.

i have on one of those too.
went to get checked by a doc, hes sent me to an ultrasound (sonar) exam.
sonar exam is 99.9% negative, but they sent me to have the lump pricked and tested for cancer cells. i need to pick up the results.
i'm also 21, but they wanted to make sure and it's covered by my insurance.
i was reassured by at least three different doctors it's nothing to worry about.

Sorry, but you're wrong there. Definitely have it checked. It's probably nothing, but it definitely aint definitely nothing :)

It's probably just fibrocystic change. Benign.
18 year-olds have gotten breast cancer, but it's incredibly rare.
Get your ultrasound/mammogram to be safe, but you're almost certainly fine.
(And this is coming from a guy who does Breast MRI research).

Why would I have gotten it?

Do you drink a lot of caffeine? I had this happen to me also when I was your age. My doc told me to lay back on the caffeine and the lump went away.
Hope things go alright for you :)

Regardless, get it checked out, and then get it cut out. Good luck!

Nope, I don't think I ever have caffeine.
