Mike at FORGE NUTRITION was nice enough to give me the opportunity to test their new thermogenic product, Adipokinetix (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/fn/adipo.html).

I began taking Adipokinetix yesterday (07/02/2007), and here is where I started:

Male, 34 years old
6'2", 299 lbs.
29% body fat

I am beginning my third week of a fairly dedicated cutting program, which I began after taking three weeks off for a graduation and vacation. Prior to the break, I had spent the better part of the previous working out regularly and trying to improve my diet, during which time I went from 355 to my current weight of 299. I say my program is "fairly dedicated" because it is somewhat unconventional by most of your standards. Here are some details:

DIET:

My diet focuses primarily on portion control and less on macros and strict rules. My calorie intake usually ranges from 1700 calories to 2600 calories per day. Where I fall within that range usually depends on whether I had 3, 4, or 5 meals that day.

The only foods I absolutely restrict are simple starches and sugars, with the exception of gatorade or fruit juice on occasion after long cardio workouts. My staples consist of eggs, fish, broccoli, and oatmeal. I also drink at least a gallon of water per day, and usually several cups of black coffee.

WORKOUT:

I lift 4 days per week and do some form of cardio 6 times per week. Some of the cardio is HIIT and performed on days I do not lift or at a different time of day than the lifting, and some is more steady state and typically performed on each of my 4 gym days after lifting.

The lifting program I follow is escalating density training, and I try to focus primarily on compound movements and increase the weight I use every 2-3 weeks.

The cardio is typically, either elliptical, running, or rowing. Occasionally I get on the stationary bike. HIIT is usually 21-24 minutes counting warmup and cool down, but I have been experimenting with tabata intervals lately. Steady state is usually a minimum of 2 miles on the elliptical, jogging on an indoor track, or walking outside.

SUPPLEMENTS:

The only other supps I will be taking other than Adipokinetix will be "Pure Protein" bars as meal replacement, a multivitamin, extra vitamin C, and fish oils. I have never taken a thermogenic or any other supplements other than a brief experiment with creatine.

GOAL:

I will be taking 2 Adipokinetix capsules 3 times per day for the month of July. Yesterday and today I am taking one capsule 3 times per day to see how I react to it before I jump into a full dose. I hope to lose 3-4 pounds per week, which is the rate I lost at when I was consistent with my diet and exercise last fall. I have recently been plateaued, so I am hoping Adipokinetix will give me a kick start and get the scale moving again!

I will be posting a daily log (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=3216491) of diet and exercise in the Losing Fat Logs forum, but I will try to keep this up to date as well, although it will focus more on results, how I am feeling, etc.

Thanks for reading along...

Initial observations:

As I said above, I am only taking a half-dose for the first couple of days, but I have noticed some effects. After taking the first capsule, I felt a little light-headed and jittery, but that has not happened again after any of the subsequent doses. I noticed I felt slightly warm, but not uncomfortably so.

I take these feelings to mean that the pill is having its intended effects, even at such a small dosage (especially small considering my size). It will be interesting to see how it goes tomorrow when I start taking two capsules per dose!

I just took my first full dose (2 capsules), and then followed with breakfast (protein bar) 30 min later as directed. Feeling VERY jittery! I feel perfectly OK though! About to head out for a run/walk/jog depending on how I feel once I get out in the sun. I lift Mon/Tues/Thur/Fri, so this is my day off from the gym.

I have not yet reported on how this has effected my appetite because I am not sure yet. The first day, I had very little appetite, but that is not unusual for me. The second day I was starving all day, which is unusual for me, but I had a pretty hard workout and had a better night of sleep the night before than I normally do. I also slept solid all night last night. I will wait and see how my appetite is today, but I am guessing it will take a week or two to determine any trends in that department.

Good to see you have everything up and running if you have questions since this is the first time using a stimulant fat burner please send me an email or pm me. Best of luck with the log.

Thanks, will do!

I am on track today so far. Lot of water this morning, took my first dose of Adipokinetix with it. Had a breakfast of 2 eggs, lowfat chicken sausage, and salsa. Trying my first experiment with drinking coffee while I am taking a full dose of Adipo.

Still feeling good, and still sleeping well despite the added caffeine from this supp. I got the jittery feeling and the overall warmth again after this morning's dose, I was wondering if that would happen since it only happened before after the first half dose and then the first full dose. I thought maybe at my size the effect would wear off pretty quickly!

Today is chest and shoulder day at the gym, and I will go for a run after that.

I am already looking forward to next week's weigh in, I hope to see results since I have noticed a definite energy boost and that feeling of warmth (hopefully from that fat-burning furnace burning inside of me!)

Yesterday was a bad day. I felt sick all afternoon after the second dose. It could have been the coffee (a cup and a half) on top of the supp, though. In an abundance of caution, I went back down to a half dose this morning to see how I feel. No coffee this time!

Just for full disclosure's sake, after the second dose yesterday I started to sweat (expected) and became dizzy and nauseous (not expected). I have no idea if it was related to the supp or adding the coffee or to something else, but I did nothing else out of the ordinary yesterday. I was unable to eat all day. I tried to eat my pre-WO protein bar and I was only able to eat half of it. I laid in bed all afternoon because I did not feel up for the gym.

I took two painkillers, and when those hit I felt OK so I went to the gym and tried to lift, but on an empty stomach. It was a pretty half-assed effort, but better than nothing. I got in some good cardio, though, @ 3 miles. I felt hungry afterward and was able to eat a decent amount last night.

Today, breakfast was all protein and water, and I am about to start working on the second quart of water to hold me until lunch. Like I said, I took a half dose before eating breakfast, and I will take another half dose before eating lunch.

Today is squats, leg curls, abs, and more cardio.

Yesterday was OK. Took 3 doses of 1 pill each before meals. Took in 2400 calories, but did have a few drinks in the evening. Lots of protein and no other cheats, though.

Took a long walk, worked up a good sweat. No cardio at the gym, so I will get there today for a make-up session.

I felt good all day and have had no other problems with nausea on the half doses. I think the nausea was unrelated to the supp, so I will start back on full doses tomorrow.

First weigh in is scheduled for Monday, but I may push it it Tues or just weigh both days because of the alcohol (should be able to shed any extra water weight from that in a day or two).
