Personally, I think all men can be sexy, I just tend to gravitate towards the taller ones!

Well, wouldn't the answer vary? Lets say all girls like tall guys (wink wink) then all they would really want is a guy taller than the girl. So "tall" to a 5'0" girl might be 5'10". Surely a 4'5" girl doesn't like her men to be 6'4"+.

So self esteem and confidence makes a man sexy IMO.

The reason I say this is because 90% of the tall men I know were too afraid to approach me or ask me out on a date. They were stricken with fear which resulted in low self esteem. This is due to society automatically giving them the "MAN" trophy due to their size so they are not use to challenges or facing situations that will build their confidence.
Shorter men have it hard and they spend most of their lives proving to society that they earn their "Man" trophy. Therefore, they obtain the self esteem and confidence that most tall men don't.
In my entire life the majority of men who asked me to dance, date or to dinner were under 5'10" and that's says a lot.
Just think what kind of courage it takes for a man 5'5" to ask me out.

from what i've seen so far i get the impession that shorter women (below 5'3) prefer much taller men (6,2 and taller), i used to believe this was rather counter-intuitive but it makes sense when you think about it.
Smaller women need larger men to feel secure because as they get smaller their feeling of vulnerability grows, the smaller the female the larger the male she needs as her protector/mate.
I've had some luck with shorter women but over all i get the most looks from women who are my height or a tad taller.
Weird but i guess that's just the way it is.

As a man what I feel is any guy can be sexy (no homo), but a shorter guy needs to compensate for it in other ways. I read some article that said a 5'8 guy needs to have $130,000 more than a 6' guy if everything else was equal to be as attractive. Sure, Tom Cruise can get away with being 5'6 because he's good looking and rich. I also feel taller guys can get away with more **** ups also.

This is true, for me at least. I've never refused to date someone based on their height, but the tall guys have always appealed to me more. And not that I feel like I can't take care of myself, but I think most women like the feeling that they're protected, lol.

I'm just saying. I can very easily find a man attractive that is 5 foot as well as someone who is 6 foot.
Men are men, regardless of age/race/height/etc. Some I find attractive, some I don't. i can't say height is the first thing I notice about a man, but I just notice that in most of my relationships that man has been on the taller side.

I've noticed that too. Luckily Uncle Sam took care of that issue for me, lol!! I don't know that it's a self esteem issue as much as trying to stay camoflaged as to not draw attention to yourself. As the big guy, there's always someone who thinks they can take you in a fight or belittle you. You learn how to either a) avoid conflct as I mentioned above or b) beat the living piss out of the offender in hopes it will teach the others not to try to jack you up. You can only stay concealed for so long before you snap and mop the floor with some 5 foot nothing asshat. One of the kids that lived across the street from me got no less than 5 ass beating when we were growing up. He had some sort of Napoleon complex I think, lol!

It's because irish guys are calm and dominant, usually we can talk our way out of situations with superior reasoning and when we can't, we either admit we're wrong, agree to disagree. If it comes to physical blows, the hardest punch ever measured was by a 5'7" 145lber in his last 30's.

My theory is that it's a regression to the mean- genetics over generations tend to regress to averages. 5'3 lady with a 6'2 man produces average height children.
what you said also makes sense. youre 5'7. translate male to female height by adding or subtracting 4.5". a slightly taller female, say 5'8 = a 6'.5 guy. 6'.5 + 5'7 / 2 = 5'9.75 male offspring, average height offspring. so, women your height or a tad bit taller will prefer males your height to produce average height children.

Well of course YOU would be angry if you lived here in Atlanta. Men with low self esteem and confidence would be angry if they lived here. They would also show their level of intelligence by calling this city names like "armpit" and making extremely generalized statements like "one of the most violent cities in american".
It's obvious who's really the angry person here on this thread. Look in the mirror for the answer. LOL

I supose it makes sense from an evolutionary perspective to want your children to be "average" because averageness is usually associated with better health and increased longevity, people who are really tall or really short tend to have shorter lifespans than people who are of average (or close to average) stature.

LOL
;)
Are you saying Atlanta is not one of the most violent cities in america?
And how exactly is that a generalized statement?
It is a fact Atlanta ranks at the top ACROSS THE BOARD in crime.
It's under Detroit though lol

Usually, I am most attracted to men of similar height. However, I once met a guy who ws 5'2" and over 200 lbs and was stunningly attractive.... I really don't care so much about height, as I think proportion is more important (of course, a winning personality is most important).

Well, wouldn't the answer vary? Lets say all girls like tall guys (wink wink) then all they would really want is a guy taller than the girl. So "tall" to a 5'0" girl might be 5'10". Surely a 4'5" girl doesn't like her men to be 6'4"+.
Actually, as far as "heightism" goes, I think often the shortest women want the tallest men. Go figure. I know a woman who is 4'2"and will only date tall men ("tall" to her is 6'2"+).

Self confidence (not arrogance) and self esteem as well as being attentive and generally fun/interesting to be with are most important...
Can't imagine beign with someone over 6 foot....
My husband is 5'5" on a tall day..... but very well put together and fulfills all of the above.... as opposed to my cousin who is much the same height, not bad looking but has a serious chip on his shoulder about his height... like he could do anything about it....

I tend to get the most response from men that are hardly any taller than I am. Usually they are shorter. TAll & Big is sexy, but judging on response wise I'd have to say "my height". I have even become so un-used to tall men I find them a bit intimidating when it comes to romantic involvement. Shortest guy I dated was a good 10-15 cm shorter than I was.

I know it's wrong to feel this way, but I never could go for a guy who's shorter than I am. On the other hand, I dated a guy who was a foot taller than me and although there was a little of that "protected" feel, I also felt somewhat overwhelmed and let's just say the logistics of sex were sometimes... challenging. Throughout my life I was always the shortest guy around... growing up (well...okay, I never really grew UP...) in school and such I was always "looked down to"... and it does give you a complex and a feeling of insecurity, although over time I just didn't realize how short I was until perhaps I seen myself in a picture standing next to someone I knew.
When I got into bodybuilding I finally found a "sport" that I could excel at "because" of my height. At a little over 5'-2" with a muscular base I looked much bigger on stage (if standing alone) and people would tend to always guess I weighed more than 200 lbs (never been close to that).
The confidence that bodybuilding gave to me I feel has alowed me to carry myself with more confidence in my personal life as well. Although I know that in the professional world a shorter man will not get the respect that a taller man will... it's just life.
My wife is 5'-7" and when we walk together I suppose it looks a bit weird but I just chuckle and tell her everyone must just think that I'm hung like a horse...

I'm 20. My dad is about an inch or two taller then me.
My diet was/is pretty normal. I eat brown rice and wheat bread. (health food wise). Usually eat veggies with almost every meal, and take vitamins every day (although wasn't consistent when I was younger).
I've always been short though. In school (like 5th grade and lower) I was always one of the shortest... I think only one guy was shorter then me and one other the same height.
I've never really "hit a growth spurt"... Its always been extremely slow growing over a period of time.

Thanks. How about your mother's height? If your mother is significantly shorter than your father, then that's a probable cause. Also I see that there's not much meat (protein) in your diet. Healthy diet may lead to a long life but not necessarily contribute best to growth in height. Not trying to tell you to eat unhealthy, haha; just wondering what is your protein source. eggs?

My mom is like 5'0 or 5'1, my sister is 4'11.
I do eat a good bit of meat (Some with every meal lunch/supper wise): steak, fish, chicken, venison, sometimes pork (rarely cause its so unhealthy)... Also a decent amount of seafood. Usually shrimp or crawfish.
For breakfast its usually either cereal (depending on if I have time to fix or not) oatmeal, eggs/bacon, or toast if its a hurry.
I'm hoping I'll grow a bit more catch my Dad before I quit growing... Perhaps I'm a late bloomer. :p

Wow This is ridiculous. You and I have the same life, haha. Everything you said is identical to me right down to the wide shoulders part.
Anyways, I think it's due to your mother. It is significantly less than your father, who's 5'9/5'10? But you could be a late bloomer. Yeah, my dad is 5'9ish, my grandpa and uncle on my moms side is both like 5'8 I think, my grandma is prolly like 5'2 (so shorter genetics comes from my mom for sure)...
As for sleep, when I have nothing going on the next day I go to sleep at like 2AM and then sleep till around 12 or 12:30 the next day.
On a school night (college) I try to get to sleep by 12 and wake up at 9:15AM (with current schedule).
When I was younger I homeschooled so I pretty much stayed up till 2-3AM every night and would sleep till 12:30 -1:30.
If I don't set an alarm clock I always get AT LEAST 10 hours of sleep before waking, If I'm really exhausted it can go to 12 hours.

Heh, nice response to them Most Muscular... my ex was 6'2, and man did I get annoyed answering that question, 'so what's it like dating a woman whose taller than you?'... Never did come up with a good (civil) response.
men keep growing til they're 25... so you have 5 years left. Not one, so there is plenty of time left Guest89.
Height is mostly genetics... but it CAN be influenced by both the lives of your parents, and your own... for example, if your dad or mum went through a period of malnutrition (particularly low calcium and other bone minerals), during their lifetime, while they may be fine, it may affect your growth. Or if you were allergic to milk as a child.
Hell, it could even be a throwback to medieval times, when people were short, and really broad (and strong as oxen).
Nearly everyone has little things though that can be used to say they should be shorter, or taller... for example, by my ribcage measurement, and that height formula they use [I think it's doubling your height when you're 3 or something], I should be 6'3.... however, given my parents, and the rest of my families respective heights... that was never in any danger of happening.

How much you sleep, how well you eat, and how much you exercise has almost nothing to do with how much you grow. I know the most unhealthy people who grew up never sleeping, eating well, or exercising and they ended up being 6+, some of the healthier kids end up being the short ones and sometimes it's other way around.
But something that stays consistent... they are the same size as their parents, roughly--or at least someone in the family. It's all genetics. That's it.

That's it.
Is that why the Dutch who was once known for their short height in Europe is now one of the tallest in the world and why South Korean are 3 inch taller than the impoverished North Korea? Genetics play a key role but it's not the only factor.

I see. I read somewhere that it really depends on the time you sleep, like really early rather than the volume of it.

I've posted about this on misc. before too, but it's raining and work is slow...haha
I'm 5'8" (although I swear i've grown since I lost weight and started working out...is this possible at 23 years old?) and I think a guy who is like 6'2" (give or take) is perfect. I dated a guy who was a tad bit shorter than me, and it was awkward, but I tried to see past it. Before him, I dated a guy who was 6'10". It's all about whether or not they can win you over in the end...but I def like them tall.

Any guy can be sexy as hell no matter how tall they may be.
Howeverrrrr... the height of guys that I would actually go for is a little different story, lol..
---Any guy as tall or taller than me is ideal... I'm 5'8ish, so BLAH.
It also depends on their actual size, too...
I wouldn't really go for a guy who's 5'8 and skinnier than me, however if they were 5'8 but bigger than me, then that would be ok... haha, I'm so picky.

Yea that makes sense, I'm 5'10 was 5'9 all through highschool and never had girls complain about my height.. well one girl who was 4,8 only liked short guys but besides that it was ok.
However I did have girls complain about my weight. Ironicly the girls who liked me most were either naturally thin and smaller then me, or fat. So it was one extreme to the other. The average girls I dated always complained I made them feel fat and they hated taking pictures next to me lol.

all in hs i was probably self conscience about my height but that also had to do with my weight(extremely skinny). Now even if i had the choice to all the sudden b 6 foot i wouldnt do it. My frame looks right on me now i think and a girl has never turned me down from it and in fact ive only dated 3 girls shorter than me the rest have been about an inch or two taller and it didnt bother them like it didnt bother me.

Yeah, I think all men could be sexy ;however, I usually stick to guys 6'4 and above just because I'm 6' tall. Plus, I love basketball players and swimmers and they're usually in that neighborhood. That isn't to say I wouldn't date a shorter guy (I went to formal with a 6' guy), I just haven't yet.

Wow This is ridiculous. You and I have the same life, haha. Everything you said is identical to me right down to the wide shoulders part.
Anyways, I think it's due to your mother. It is significantly less than your father, who's 5'9/5'10? But you could be a late bloomer. I'm not but we're not entirely the same. :) Also I remember you say you sleep like 10-12hrs a night. Is that an exaggeration or it is true? What time do you sleep; it largely depends on the time you go into deep sleep.
Height is almost completely genetic. The only thing you can do to influence it aside from anti-aromatose agents and HGH is to get enough food to eat. By enough food, I mean very small amounts; if you grew up in a first-world country, you most definately got enough food to eat.
In order to not eat enough to grow, you'd have to be eating the equivalent of a starving Ethiopian or something; if you're not dying, you're probably growing. You're just very insecure about yourself.
I'm 5'8" and have never had a problem with my height with girls. I've had girls give me **** tests about it before like we'll somewhere in the stage of initially flirting with each other and she'll say something like, "You're kind of short for a guy.."
That's only happened a few times though and it doesn't really have anything to do with my height; she's just unconsciously checking my confidence to see if I'm a confident guy or not. If the guy was tall, she would have done the same thing, only she would have said something different, like "Your nose is kind of long.." or something just to see how he takes it.
No girl wants a guy she holds power over and in my case any comments about my height have always just been a personality test, not a rejection; the comments didn't really have anything to do with my height in the first place.
Obviously, an unconfident guy of my height would take it the wrong way, just as an unconfident guy of 6' would take the comment about his nose the wrong way, and they'd live their lives thinking that girls hate them because of their height or their nose. They'd certainly think that, but really girls would just hate them because of their poor and unconfident personalities.

Girls usually want their man at least 4 inch taller than them
2 inch for high heels and she can still look up you when kissing.
short girls: 'I need tall man cuz I am short and want to feel safe around him'
Tall girls: 'I want tall man cuz I am tall (obviously)'
I am 6'1", but I wish I was 2 inch taller (yeah it's about confidence)

Well whadda know,a forum I can relate too.I am going to post these remarks specificly for any young, short guys who lack self confidence.I am 5' 4'',and I have been around a loooonng time.As long as you have a good body, and a nice personality, you will never lack female companionship. It's kinda tough when you are 16 years old and realize you are not going to grow any taller, but once you accept that, and decide you will be strong and fit,you have won the battle.Sure, there is no doulbt that the odds are tilted slightly against you, but, work out,get the bod!! and you will see,it's like magic-in my personal experience,a fit short guy will beat out an ordernary taller guy every time-unless he's walking around with 100 dollar bills falling out of his pockets-you can 't win em all!!

I don't like short girls that much. Ideal is my height, or within a couple inches. Its nice being able to drive each others cars and not have to move the seat. Tall women are sexy, I tried to date a taller girl a while back, but I felt demasculated. But her legs went on forever-hot!

Any guy can be sexy, but I could never date a guy shorter than me.
I reached my full height of 6'2 at age 13, and I have ALWAYS felt like the giant in the room. I would prefer not to feel that way with my significant other.
And oh yeah, someone mentioned that guys lie about their height on the internet....well to add to that they do in REAL LIFE. I know for sure that I am 6'2, and I always have guys coming up to me and telling me that I must be 6'6 because they are 6'4. So annoying. :( What is the reason for lying?

Just think what kind of courage it takes for a man 5'5" to ask me out.
interesting theory, maybe some truth in it.
i'm 6'4 and very rarely approach taller women. i don't know why that is, as i'm not unconfident.
one thing is that often taller chicks have bigger heads, which i'm not into.
plus, they really have to be skinny with a perfect figure if taller, as otherwise they just look too 'big' if tall also. she needs to have a model's figure if over 6' in my view, as even an 'athletic' look on a taller chick looks too big for me.
in general, my favourite height for a girl is when her ankles are right around my neck.

Lots of people lie about their height in real life, I know a guy that claims to be 6'2 and he's barely 5'10 (if that). When he's wearing boots (which add a solid 2-2.5") he's barely taller then a friend of his thats 5'7.
I've another friend that claims he's 6', but he's only about 5'8 or 5'8.5 max.
The list goes on... Its quite funny actually. Most celebrities are 1-2 inches shorter then what they are listed at also.

I am 5'4'' and I have never lacked female companionship.I made up for my lack of height by working out and having a better than average build and developing a pleasant personality. The only disadvantage was that I would not try to date anyone taller than me,but I did not resist dating any girl taller than me if she showed an interest in me,and there were a few.A looong, loong time ago, when I was still in my 20tees.my wife and I went to a dance with a couple we knew and we sat with some of their friends. There were about 6 couples, and as people got up to dance, the husband of one of the couples asked my wife to dance, and,of course she accepted. Now,that left me and his wife the only people sitting at the table. She was a beauty!!,probably 5'7'',5;8'' with high heels and a very low cut dress.I asked her to dance, and being a good sport, she accepted. As we were dancing,my eyball were just about level with her well endowed breast peeping out at me from her low cut dress.I looked up at her and said,,-I never realized dancing with a tall woman could be so much fun!!-She placed her hand on the back of my head, and with a big smile she said,- be quite and just keep dancing,as she gently pushed my face into her breast!!,and that werre I left it till the end of the dance!!AHH memories!!

These poll results do not bode well...
Weird note, any ever notice women seem to be with guys who are aboutish a head taller than them? I noticed when I was drawing one day, and I see it all the time. No matter what height, it seems like something I consistently see. It also occured to me, of the few girls who've approached and liked me over the years (insted of me approaching them), all three were 4'11/5'0 which is oddly a head heighter shorter. Anyone else ever come across it?

1) The poll results are mainly what the GUYS on this forum think is too short for another man to be sexy.
2) Never noticed the head taller thing, I wouldn't worry about it though. Every single guy I know thats 5'4-5'8 have girlfriends.

Yeh I know. Never been a major issue for me. Especially not in everyday life.
However, there are some extreme situations. I've seen for a few years now what girls can be like if they've got a choice of guys available to them. Four guys to every one girl. I learnt a lot from being in that enviroment.

At least an inch or so taller then me so I can rock heals and still not be taller then him. But not taller then 6' cause I don't like feeling short ;-)

I'm 5'8" and I think I've dated maybe 3-4 guys that were over 6'. Most of the guys I date aren't more than 2-3" taller than me. As long as a guy is bigger than me, even if not significantly in height, I can still find 'em attractive. One of my uh current "suitors" is only 5'6"....but he's a rad dude and we have a lot in common. So its good by me.
IMO height doesn't really matter. I mean I'd prefer to date someone who's at least my height, but at the end of the day - being able to enjoy someone's company and have a good time with them is far more important than whether or not I wear heels or flats.
