It just came out on the market. The marketing gimmick being used is to sell you not only the pill, but an exercise program as well. But the pill itself is basically a fat-blocker that blocks 25% of the fat that you consume. The theory being that since fat is the most calorie-dense macro, blocking fat will reduce your caloric intake and help you lose weight.

Well, okay, I see the principle. But aren't carbs and sugar the bigger culprit in weight gain because of the insulin spike you get when you eat a lot of them?

Also, the major side effects of alli are diarrhea and anal leakage. Yuk! I don't think I'm going to be paying money to maybe **** myself.

I don't see any point in any diet pill unless you are massively overweight and seriously need assistance.
I'm seriously sceptical of any 'blocking' pill whether it be carb blockers or fat blockers I mean it has to go somewhere! thats why you get leakage
ew seriously.

I think many people are just so uninformed and confused and desperate and also potentially not willing to put in the hard yards that they will try anything

Here's another thread on it...I'd stay away.

Oh, I have no intention of taking it, in large part because I prefer not to leak anally even for a good cause, but also because I don't feel like fat is really the big deciding factor in weight loss. Plus, does it block ALL fat? (I assume so.) So any EFA supplements you take would be blocked too? That kind of sucks.

If it's doesn't involve weights, exercise or proper food moderation/balance, it's not going to help a person get into shape. That pill should be renamed "The Lazy Dreamer", becuase those are the kind of people it's for

(I know it's a diff section at all, I just thought it would be intersteting for others to read)

I've seen it. First thing I looked at was the "do not take if you suffer from: " section - I have an underactive and most of these things are not recommended for people with thyroid problems. Which makes me wonder about them for the general population as well.

Unfortunately, most fat burners are not recommended for thyroid condition sufferers either.

And, ugh, anal seepage? No thanks.

i want to try it. but i dont eat enough fat in a day for it to make any consequential difference. i didnt read the original post, but i think it gets rid of 15-25% (something like that) of the fat you eat? i calculated it and it would only save me roughly 100 calories/day. lame. and ya, ive heard about the "wear diapers" and anal leakage. it's just gonna encourage ppl to eat more fat.

As if people need encouragement in that area anyway!

Olestra was supposedly hailed as an awesome fat substitute, yet the "anal leakage" idea turned everyone off that too. I think we can safely assume that any product with that as a side effect isn't going to be a big hit on the market.

The nice thing about the side effects of this pill, is it will make for great 'first date' conversation -30-

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the public is so uninformed and desperate. People don't realize just how simple it is to lose weight. If you eat right and exercise, the weight will come off. Now, I said the concept is simple, but we all know it's difficult to put them into practice. I've just come to the conclusion that people, for the most part, are LAZY. They may stick with the tried and true 'exercise/eat right' method, but because they lack willpower, they fall into old habits again, hence the diet pill industry! They know they can make a killing off of these people.
