Well I must say the I was unmotivated last week and thought I was overtrained so I took the week off. Come to find out the my lack of focus and headaches was due to a staff infection in my right eye. Those are always fun. So for the past few days I've been battling a swollen eye and splitting headaches. In between bouts of unconsciousness I've been posting and getting remotivated. Hopefully by Wednesday I'll be 100% better and ready to tear up the gym. This new board rocks!!!

Don't worry sweetie pop round mine and I'll do your hair up real nice for you and you'll feel better in no time.

Where are all the ladies? ;) I'm L.C. and I am just starting out. Just had my "rude awakening" a few weeks ago when I entered a contest just to gain some experience, see if I could actually stand in front of people in less than what some exotic dancers wear, and ultimately see how I'd do and what I need to fix. With just a couple of exceptions, the women were sooooooooo lean. I mean several were lean to the point of looking anorexic!!! Granted, this was a natural show, but COME ON! I thought that even though I was carrying more body fat than peak I'd at least beat the women who were basically skin, bones and very little muscle...... but that was not the case. So, it's back to the drawing board for me and my quest to lose as much body fat between now and the next contest that I can. My friends already call me "skinny," but I don't want to be skinny but it seems it is the skinnier women who are winning these days. :( What has been your experience? Has shape and muscle mass won out of leanness?
Glad to be aboard!
L.C.
MsFit
10-24-2001, 06:44 PM
It's a leanness show now, not a muscularity contest. Some where along the line the judges forgot how to judge.

I totally agree! The woman who won the Master's class was about 5'3 and couldn't have weighed more than 90lbs! She was extremely lean, beautifully cut, yes, chiseled, definitely, but very little muscle mass. She had the body of a very cut ballerina...... not a bodybuilder, but her abs were ripped in ways I have never seen! I guess that's what they want, so that's what I'll try to give 'em.
MsFit

The last girl I competed with was so lean and tight. Her bodyfat must have been in the negataives. She look malnurished to me.

Hey Ladies,
This post filled up pretty quick! But, now since those guys have decided to leave us alone for a little while I'm sure more of us will jump out and say Hi!
Read the post about judges basically going for the most ripped contestant same is true up here. It's not necessarily about how big and beautiful your muscles are just how hard you come in! Go figure - unfortunately lots of ladies are lookin real stringy because of it! Sometimes I fear for them - that's the way I felt in my last show. I felt so healthy compared to everyone else - it was nice for me but made me worry about others and think about my previous experiences!
Anyway, glad to see there are more of us hangin around!
Be strong.

Hi I am new to the board and have to say whoever disigned it did a great job. A quick introduction. I am 25 years old mother of four kids, all under 6. I gained alot of weight because I was pregnant for so long i'm guessing. But I found myself very unhealthy 60 pounds over weight and low self esteem. My hubby has trained for years and I read some of his magazines. I started training got great results so trained harder its been a year and i've lost 50 pounds cut my body fat in half and lost five inches off my waist. Im 6'0 tall and about 170 pounds. have 16 1/2 inch arms I'm thinking of competing next year if I can cut down that far, i dunno. They are very skinny. But we'll see. Sorry so long, hope to get to know all of you better, not alot of female body builders in utah. I'll post pictures soon. I'm computer illiterate!

Glad to have you a board and congratulations on your weight loss! I've lost 50 pounds and still have some to lose. I am working on building muscle and leaning out as well. I'm hoping to compete next year as well.
And Wow, 4 kids under the age of 6. I congratulation you on finding time to work out. I have one child and mine is 14. I can't imagine how your day goes with 4.
Keep up the hard work and keep me posted on when and where you're going to compete.

Seosaid asked in a previous post how to stay on track with training.
The best way for me is having a reliable workout partner. I've missed one workout in the last year (and we work out 5 days a week). There are several days when going home from work and taking a nap sounds mighty inviting, but I know my workout partner will be at the gym and ready to work out.
It's a terrific partnership. She is very strong in the legs and I'm much stronger in the upperbody. It means she can push be through leg days (which I hate), and I can push her on upper body workouts.
Where I really need the self-discipline is in doing cardio. I really have to stay on track. I find that if I start missing cardio days, that I will begin to slide. Actually after the first 15 minutes of a cardio workout, I'm into the enjoying it part. It's the first 15 minutes that is the hump for me. It also helps if I circuit on the cardio equipment with 15 or 20 minutes on two or three different machines.

Hi everyone--
My name is Maggie, I'm 23 and from Santa Cruz, CA. I've been working out for a long time but just got really serious about body building in the last six months or so. Right now I'm in the middle of a BFL challenge and I'm really happy with my results so far. I'm looking around for ideas for after this challenge is over, I'm on the lookout for something a little more challenging.

faria,
BFL is pretty good. its helped alot of people.... yet im still skeptical about bill phillips. as for challanging yourself, you can never set too many goals. once you reach your goal of finishing your BFL program, set some higher ones. giving competing a shot! if you want to improve, i would say look at your body once your finished and see what you need to work on. everyone has flaws, but flaws are something that can be fixed.
BTW, if you want something more challenging, i got a cardio workout for you!!!!! just ask! :)

This is Robin from the MM boards! I started a journal over there, but maybe I'll switch to posting over here. What's the difference? I don't really need a "journal" as I've been using fitday.com pretty reguraly.
I am training for my first competition this spring. Today is a bad day I am just doubting everything! I have tons of questions, where would be the best place to post them?
MsFit

Hey fitmom, nice to see you. I didn't know you were prepping for a contest. I guess I better browes your journal. BigCat has great supplement knowledge and I can assist you in dieting and training.
I could tell by your first few sentences that you're having a rough day. It will pass.....What's the exact day of your show?

Hi
I am new here. I just thought this would be a good place to post since I too have a lot of questions. I have a show coming up in 4 months and am getting ready to begin the big diet in a few weeks. This will be my third show but I haven't competed in 3 years. I am a little nervous. I feel like I have lost all of my knowledge. Any advice would be great!
Thanks!

Welcome Nicole. Congratulations on competing again. What are your current stats and what is your nutrition and training like?

Nicole
12-14-2001, 12:40 PM
Currently I am 5'3", 132 lbs, and about 16% bodyfat. I work out 6 days a week. I only lift each bodypart once per week and my cardio varies. Last week I did an hour a day but this week I cut back because I don't want to burn myself out on cardio before contest prep. Right now I am doing about 20-30 min a day with an hour one day.
I am trying to get about 120-150 grams of protein a day, 120 grams of carbs, and 25-35 grams of fat. I probably am on the low side with fat unless I eat some peanut butter. I would say I get around 1800-2300 calories a day. I usually have a "cheat day" once a week. I eat clean foods but don't eliminate any food groups in the off-season.
Can you give me any advice as to what I should be doing right now? I think I will start dieting in about 4 weeks which will leave me 12 weeks out. Do you think I should go 14 weeks out? Also, I am a natural bodybuilder. What about cardio for the next 4 weeks?
Any advice would be great!
MsFit
12-19-2001, 08:52 AM
Nicole,
How are your bodyparts grouped and when are you doing cardio? First thing in the morining? After training? I think that everyday right now is too much. You have probably adapted. Lower cardio to 3 times a week from now until January and start increasing again from there.
You could probably afford to up your carbs a bit. I have more to add, but just pushed for time at the moment.

Hello everyone! :) I've always used weight-training to balance out my running, but since I've pretty much fried my knees at this point in my life (I'm 41), I'm interested in increasing the weight-training and phasing out the running. I'm primarily interested in adding muscle mass. I haven't really gotten to the point where I've thought about competing, but the idea is beginning to intrigue me.
Happy New Year! :)
