Yesterday i competed in my first contest, OCB Delaware.. I was the youngest competitor there (i turned 17 in april), and unfortunetly came in last in teen, 3 out of 3. Both other teens were 19, and the winner was really impressive and took the novice short class.
But in the novice tall division i beat the kid who came in second in teen and also placed, 5th out of 8. I'm really happy with my first time competiting.
It was a hell of a time and i really enjoyed competiting. Thanks to everyone in here who gave me advice on the way. I'm hoping to come back to the same competition next, and really concentrate on building up my legs and back, and taking first in teen and placing higher in novice.

Good first outing...congrats! The important thing here is that you gathered experience and can come away with new goals in mind to strive for. Time some time to relax and enjoy some downtime, then get back on the horse and start working for next year! Make it your goal to come into this same show next year better than this year so you can step on stage and leave no doubt that you are the winner.

I think your comment "It was a hell of a time and i really enjoyed competiting" said it all. Welcome the hardest sport you'll love and hate.
Tough going in the teen shows. When your 16-17 standing next to a 19 who is in his last teen show. Soon enough you will be the 19yo, but I think you might be entering less teen shows as you improve.

Yeah definetly, i loved it and really want to compete again. I'm thinking about coming back to the same contest next year. I'll take a long off-season and really work on getting my legs bigger as well as my upper body.
The feeling out on stage was great, cant wait to get back up there some day
BTW man u looked really good in your comp, u were shredded

It was my first time out on stage, when i was doing the teen division, and his second comp. He probably out posed me, but then i beat him in the novice so it made up for it

Rob,
Saw you at the contest, you looked great. It was my first contest as well. I
was the winner of the 60+ masters. I was extremely lucky to enter and win
my first competition, but that didn't minimize the high that I experienced in
just doing the competition. I more now then ever in my life appreciate what
those guys I saw over the years doing what it took to compete. I didn't know
then, but I sure do know now what they had to go through. Keep up the good work, you have already done more then most people will ever do, from this point on, it will get better, hang in there, and congratulations!!

Hey Bob,
I remember talking to you and congrats on the win. I gotta say that contest was a hell of a time, and i really enjoyed talking to all of the people backstage. I met some very nice people who really gave some good advice and such. Do you have anymore contest coming up soon?

Im definetly gunna put in the work. I'm pumped that the summer just started which means that i have a lot of time to lift and enjoy myself. I'm planning on packing on some mass for football and for my next contest, which will probably be next summer... I want to come back next year at 18 years old and win a teen division.

Hey Rob,
I really enjoyed the show, and Yes, I think I'm going to do the one over in
NJ in the Trenton area on August 25th. I'm getting ready for that one now,
and we'll see how I feel and look in the last few weeks prior to the show to
see if I'm definately going to do it.
You are going to do very well in this sport. You are looking great now, and
your best times are yet to come. I look forward to seeing your progress as
you prepare for your next show. When will your next contest be?

I'm probably thinking about just doing OCB Eastern Seaboard next year as well.. I play football and lacrosse in HS so its an ideal contest because its not in the seasons. I'd like to come back to the contest next year with about 10 more pounds of solid muscle on me, instead of rushing back into a contest earlier. Hopefully the extra year of training will help me get a first place finish in teen and a higher placing in novice.

Good for you! Congrats on having the strength to make it through contest prep and onto the stage!
I personally think it is better to place modestly in your first few shows---that way you can be assured if you compete again, it is for the joy of it and not the trophy. I have seen lots of people win the first time out and then, when they are inevitably dealt a different hand (as always happens at some point), they get mad and quit.
But if you develop a love for the PROCESS and the journey, you will enjoy it more long term....
Just my 2 cents :)
Congrats!!!!
