If you already know it or get the time to test it whats your 40 time and vertical standing ?

My standing vertical is recently around 31-32". My best 40yd dash hand timed is 4.53, but at my peak I was probably good for 4.4s.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. I really do. I will just do Glute/Ham Raises, one arm dumbell vertical jumps, totally lower body plyometrics, etc.

GUYS, GIVE ME GOOD LOWER BODY(HAMS/QUADS)/BACK EXERCISES THAT DO NOT USE THE SHOULDERS IN ANY WAY. GIVE ME VARIATIONS OF THESE EXERCISES IF YOU HAVE TO. LIFTING EXERCISES, PLYOMETRICS, WHATEVER! IM GOING TO FIND A WAY TO WORK THROUGH THIS SAFELY

I saw this pic of magnus samuleson standing with one leg on a platform each, with a gap in the middle.

Then he had weights strapped to a belt thing and when he squated down the weights go in between the gap.

He used that for squats so he didn't put any pressure on his torn bicep.

Leg Press, Leg Extesnsions, and Leg Curls (not the best since not free weights, but better than nothing). Hyperextensions without weight or with a plate or db held in front of chest with one hand.

Liftin4ever- Hey man!! Thanks for posting! That means a lot to me man, KILL THAT WORKOUT FOR ME.

I've got the MRI Results everyone, check this out:

FINDINGS: Magnetic resonance imagining of the right shoulder demonstrates the muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff to be intact.

The intrascapular and extrascapular components of the biceps tendon are intact.

There is thickening and redundancy of the anterior limb of the inferior glenohumeral ligament. There is no evidence of discrete labral detachment; however, clinically correlation will dictate the need for further characterization with MR arthrography.

There is a 1cm subchondral cyst within the greater tuberosity.

There is no evidence of glenohumeral joint effusion.

IMPRESSION:
1. Thinkening and redundancy of the anterior limb of the inferior glenohumeral ligament consistent with capsular injury. There is no evidence of discrete labral detachment, however, if further characterization of the labrum is required, MR Arthrography is recommended

3. 1 cm subchondral cyst within the greater tuberosity

Good luck with the shoulder man. My brother messed his shoulder up a long time ago, and with time it kept popping out and stretching the ligaments until he finally required surgery. It used to completly pop out just bending down to pick up something. He had the worst type of injury. The surgery limited his range of motion to a degree, but he is busting out reps with 200 on the BB Mil. press now, so not all hope is gone bro.

I Close grip(2 fingers on smooth) benched 230 EASILY! AND NO PAIN! I can probably max 245-255 like this. I'm going to start back up with sprinting, and do the coan phillipi deadlift routine as soon as possible. Squatting can not be done currently.

I have a lot to think about tonight, gonna head to the movies now though. peace!

I'm still in some serious thinking.

Flat CG Bench hurts just a tiny bit, but CG Decline Bench is practically pain free. So based on this discovery, I may follow this plan:

Monday: Accel Dev + plyos

Wednesday: Coan/Phillippi

Friday: Hill sprints + 5x5 CG Decline Bench

It's not final yet, still thinking... I may not even do any sort of pressing.. going fast with 140 hurts just a tiny bit, and this leads me to believe if I used heavier weights it might hurt me.

healthy n_fit
06-25-2005, 02:13 PM
I don't think I'll be donig any benching. I can do rows though.

My options are really limited right now. I can't do squats, or bench, or olympic lifts.

This limits me really to:

GHRs
Deadlifts
Pullthrus
Rows
Leg Press
"Butt blaster" :D It's basically a reverse leg press though
"Belt-weight" stepups
Leg curls

I don't think I'm going to do coan just yet. I want to rebuild everything. I'm thinking of possibly doing something like this:

Monday: Accel Dev Sprints// Heavy Leg Press // GHRs // Speed Pullthrus
Wednesday: 5x5 Rows
Friday: Hill Sprints// Explosive Leg Press // "Butt Blaster"(RLP) // Leg Curls

I really don't know though guys. This is basically the best I can do, considering the circumstances. Starting Monday I guess I'm on the road for either perpetual injuries, or recovery.

healthy n_fit
06-25-2005, 04:02 PM
Well, I just CG Rowed 250 without any pain whatsoever. The form wasnt the strictest, but it was just a test to see if I could handle heavy weights in the row(yes I warmed up this time). I tried 270 and failed, so I deadlifted that and had no pain whatsoever. So its decided. My split will be as follows:

Sunday: Off
Monday: Accel Dev Sprints// Heavy Leg Press // GHRs // Speed Pullthrus
Tuesday: Tempo
Wednesday: Joeskopec 5x5 Rows
Thursday: Tempo
Friday: Hill Sprints// Explosive Leg Press // "Butt Blaster"(RLP) // Leg Curls
Saturday: Tempo

Time to develop some rear delts and lats I suppose, heh. When I feel I've developed a sufficient base, perhaps in a month or two, I will do the coan routine.

Thanks everyone! I haven't hit many of your journals because on this username it doesnt have your journals in my subscription thing, sorry for that guys.

Fullback- It's not better yet, but it's getting better! I actually did 10x100 tempo runs(fast runs @ 70-75%) on tuesday, but believe it or not that actually hurt my shoulder more than sprinting(didnt hurt it)...weird!

Interesting workout. My core feels stronger, because I pulled 365 with no belt or chalk confidently and easily. I couldn't do these FAST though because my grip was slipping...its a weird feeling! I think belt + chalk + fresh I've got a nice deadlift up my sleeve. Nice workout today!

For a sprinter step-ups would serve more purpose then power squats because it strengthens muscular imbalances but for the average weightlifter Step ups could be a great supplement or accessory lift for the squat.

Thanks dude!

Well, here's why I probably keep my strength:

1) I eat enough
2) It's in my genetics
3) I'm still growing, which means I'm naturally getting stronger
4) I've been doing other stuff

About the diet, heres a sample:

11am: Milk + Whey and some waffles w/ PB + syrup
1pm: Pasta + Milk
3pm: Lean Cuisine meal + milk

I had to do this. I power hang cleaned 185 today finally !! **** YEAH, I BROKE THE BARRIER! This was at my house. At the gym I can have anywhere from 205-220.

I think the reason I have trouble with power hang cleans is that my arms and legs are so long that I can barely bend down before I get to my knees, and the real explosion comes from the bounce off of the thighs. So it's either, barely bend the knees and bounce off the thighs, or bend down past the knees, and do what I wouldn't really call a power hang clean, but an elevated power clean.

Ah well, feels good to finally have broken the barrier!

Also, the flooring at the gym is harder, I find this helps actually.

Or the atmosphere

We took our high school kids to a football camp at an NCAA D-III school last weekend. We lifted in their weightroom for two days and all of the kids complained about not being able to do the weights that they usually can in our weightroom. The main reason was that the college weightroom had fat bars instead of the regular 1" bars my kids are used to.

It is amazing that something as simple as bar diameter can make such a big difference!

Now that we are back in our weightroom, lots of the kids we took to the camp are smoking their old records. I am betting that the two lifting sessions with the bigger bar shocked the kid's CNS and helped them bust plateaus.

My bar at my house is over 4" in circumference. It is also a bit over 1" in diameter.

And the difference is amazing! I can definitely feel the difference between the bar at my house and the bar at the gym.

Let me know how the team's lifting turns out at your own weight room.

I'm not too sure man.

I don't know if you've read my earlier journal entries, or maybe stuff I didnt mention, but:

My best bench is 275 and my best CG Row is 255

I believe most people bench more than they row, but my back and biceps are pretty strong so its closer to a 1:1 ratio.

That's pretty impressive. I can bench about 325, but I can only row about 205. I would guess that is mainly because for most of my career as a lifter, I completely neglected back training.

Yeah it pretty much is, I used to love max-ot, but would always get bored with more than 4 reps, so lowered the range, and I dont like doing more than 1 or 2 exercises a day, so changed that, liked to rest until im good to go, changed that. Its semi max-otish

Ah, alright. Sounds good to me bro.

Blazing! I knew today was gonna be good, even before I did the sprints. I decided before the sprints to test how my vertical was doing, and I totally forearmed/elbowed the 8ft cieling, and not just barely, it was a slam, so this was a good sign! When it got to the sprints, I felt really fast! The speed and heat wore me out more than last week's slower speeds and cool temperature. Nice stuff!

Ugh, where to begin. Ok, I stayed up all night the day of July 18th, barely ate anything the whole time, and went to sleep at 5pm on July 19th. I popped a sleeping pill, and ended up waking up July 20th at 2am. I ate a big bowl of pasta, popped another sleeping pill, and slept until 1am on July 20th. In other words, I slept 20 hours, with the assistance of 2 sleeping pills, and barely ate at all. My body is completely messed up from everything. The sleep cycle, the lack of food, sleeping pills, aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Any tips on recovery? I felt like I was gonna throw up.

Normally, 405 should be easy as hell, so hopefully it will be next week! Only doing 2 reps, because thats all the routine calls for. It's 425x2 in 2 weeks, then 450x2 the week after. Man this is gonna be tough!

I'm thinking of adding in one set of front squats every friday, so my weight work looks like this:

21" Step ups:
Easy set x 6
160 x 5 (add 5 every week...if too tough, revert to lighter weight for speed)

Front Squats:
160 x 5 (add 5 every week)

Basically, the stepups aren't that hard, and only one of the step up sets actually give me a challenge. Combined, they all give me a nice sweat though. I was thinking, my front squat sucks balls. Last night at like 2am I decided to do a front squat, and I got 225, but at parallel with a clean grip. This leads me to think under strong conditions I could only get 225 ATG. I want to work on my front squat strength, and I will just do one set, with the base weight at 160, and add 5lbs every week. It shouldn't get hard for a long time, and that's good, because I need to be sure I'm working on form and going ATG. I'm doing Coan/Phillipi too, so I really don't want to over do anything, so I'm keeping the volume low, but the quality high. Does this sound good?

I am kind of biased towards this idea, because of the fact that I like low volume, and quality sets more, but I will consider any ideas or advice given to me!

also do you focus on just one leg, or give a little push with the other leg

Thanks!

The CG inclines have a crazy range of motion! It's probably a 55 degree incline, if not 60. It's pretty steep let me tell you! I decided I need to hit my shoulders more, so I figured a higher incline would work better.

I wish I could time all my sprints, but honestly, it's too much of a hassle to time my sprints every workout, and I just go by feel.
