Just curious...which do you normally prefer for your contest tan. ProTan or JanTana. Any secrets to applying it? I know some rinse off between coats and others don't. Thanks for the insight!

ok, I'm a guy and not a fitness comp. but I have used both protan and jan tana. Protan works best for me, gives a nice even DARK color. Put it on with a brush. I rinse between the first few coats to even out the color. Once you get darker, I find that it's not neccessary to rinse.
Dreamtan has a new product out called DreamTan PSTS. You can only get it one their webpage as far as I know. It's better than both jan tana and pro-tan IMO.

I like to use protan or mystic tan as a base, then I use Jan Tana or Dream Tan as my competition colour.

I like to use ProTan Wed evening until Friday night and finish off with JanTana. It always gives me good color that way.

My wife does fitness and I do bodybuilding. We both agree that pro tan is hands down better. jan tana really streaks alot after the 1st application. It does smell better than protan, but looks bad. Unless you have them do several layers of spray on application with the sprayers backstage.

I use Jan Tana first and then pro tan, then repeat and finish last coat off with protan. I painted the protan on first, but then found out that it was a lot easier and looked better to spray it on and pat in with the applicator

Both Jan Tana and Pro Tan are great products. I work for Pro Tan so I am biased. :)
It's all about personal preference. Pro Tan gives you a nice dark natural sun tan brown. Jan Tana tends to lean towards a red cherry wood color.
Personally I always used Pro Tan before I even worked here and prefer suntan brown to red. But it's all about personal preference.

For my figure show I used like 8 coats of protan and one or two coats of dream tan 2 the day of. I liked it, but a couple days after the show it look gross. The way it was applied was literally painted on.
When my boyfriend did his bodybuilding show, we used a few coats of protan, then used a few coats of jan tana. The jan tana went on streaky and I was getting worried, but left a good color and washed right out. Once again, painted it on.
Has anyone tried the jan tana spray tan? This girl at one of the shows used it and it looked unbelievable. I think I might try it for my next show.

I used the jan tana spray for my comp this weekend. I put on a layer of the high def first, I had the hardest time getting it to go on evenly but it was my first time applying. It is a nice color. The woman who sprayed me put on about 2 coats over my base and it looked awesome! I was really dark. There is also the ultra high def color which is really dark, which was perfect for touch ups if I got a drip of water on me. If you get sprayed you will be so dark that you definitely want that around because it is the only product that is so dark initially. Some people might over charge you though so find out the prices, I got sprayed for $25/coat and that is really reasonable from what I have heard.

My personal opinion is that the best competition tan is Dream Tan hands down. You dont even need a base tan. I wake up and the morning of th competition a typical white guy with little or no tan. after two applications im as dark as i need to be and it washes off in just a shower or two. If you havent tried it, i would check it out

That product may work for some and it I am no knocking it, but it is also not great to make a blanket statement about one product or another. First many shows do not allow that product due to the shimmer content and also the ease at which it stains curtains, chairs, and facitlites.
Second unless you apply it perfect and come in dry as a desert you can really hide your cuts and definition under the lights. The best combo and we have seen it time and time again, is Several Coats of Protan and some Quick Bronze on top before you hit the stage.
You put in all that hard work and time into your diet and your traning, the right contest color is as important. Dont risk making mistakes by using something just cause it fast and easy, use it because it gives the best results possible.

I used a spray base (not sure what brand). Night before, two coats of Pro Tan, morning of one more touch up coat of Pro Tan.
Done!

I use to use Protan but I hated how it took 8 coats to get me dark enough, how it smelled, and how I got REALLY dry with protan. I've also used dream tan and I didn't like how hard it was to put on, it was like paste, and the color made me look gold next to the other gals and I also noticed the shine made me look softer. I switched to Jan Tana 3 years ago and would never use anything else. I used the new high deg at the Arnold and it took one coat to get me black with no lines. Spray tan is the only way to go and you can buy a cheap paint sprayer at lowes and have someone spray you... really easy and low cost if you want want to pay the $100 the jan tana crew charge.
