Talking to people around the gym and rumaging through books on squats, what is a good number of squats to do on upper leg day.
personally i do prolly
10 sets consisting of...
4 sets of normal squats
3 sets of hack squats
3 sets of front squats
i was reading arnold's encyclopedia and he says most people should do at least 8 sets?
i know he was using steroids, but i don't juice and i am seeing good gains with my new routine.
i am always changing my routine.
any info would be appreciated.

I just do 5 sets of Barbell Squats, 1 warm up and the other 4 working sets with 12,10,8 and 6 reps.

My advice to you is that if it is working for you, i.e. you are seeing gains in strength/size/both, don't change it. The routine looks good, although it would help if you posted how many reps you do per set, but then again, as I said before if you are gaining strength within a selected rep range then you are on the right track :)

That looks like a good quad workout, volume is quite high but if its working stick with it.
Do some ham work after it. A few sets of SLDL or leg curls. Then some calf work and you got a great leg workout there.

i use dereks 4 day split. has been working great and only made few minor modifications to the whole thing. generally, on leg day i do exactly the routine given, a warm up set before, and maybe another set depending on how my muscles are feeling. also, i added leg extensions :D idk if this helps, but my legs are getting strong and big quickly.

3 sets of hack squats
3 sets of front squats
That's one hell of a routine, depending on the rep ranges you use. If you want to do the above, I would do something like:
Squats 5 X 3-5
Hack Squats 3 X 6-9
Front Squats 2 X 10-12
This would do a great routine for gaining strength and size. YOu could do that for 4 weeks, then switch to:
Squats 2 X 3-5
Hack Squats 6 X 6-9
Front Squats 2 X 10-12
for 4 weeks
Each phase would emphasize a difference aspect of growth while allowing you to keep the strength gains you have made.
