View Full Version : Fats aiding vascularity and muscle firmness

I've noticed that when I consume meals with higher amounts of fat that I get very vascular and my muscles firm up quite a bit. I've been trying to find an explanation for this and the only reasonable one would be the glycerol from the fat chain hydrating the muscles. Do you have an opinion on this? Most of my meals are mixed, but lately I switched my pre-workout meal (1 hour - 1.5 hours prior to workout) to a fat + protein only meal because of the effect I mentioned above. The meal is usually 4% milkfat cottage cheese + (Natural) peanut butter.

Bump! I know I'm not crazy! :p
Are you eating less carbs in exchage for eating more fat? If so, it might be that the decrease in carbs is causing your body to hold less water and thereby make you more vascular? I'm really not sure about this though.

For that meal I am consuming very little carbs., but all the other meals are mixed. My diet is about 30% Fat as I have found that to work best for me.

Sorry, I might not have been clear in my original post. The vasularity and muscle firmness is noticeable within 15 minutes after eating the protein + fat meal. I do not experience the same effect with mixed meals.
It sounds like it has more to do with the fat content of the meal than it does with lack of carbs. Does eating a protein bar or two (they contain a ****load of glycerol) have the same effect on you?

It's been a while since I've had a protein bar, but in the past they did not have the same effect. I'm thinking that the glycerol from the fat content in the meal is the factor myself. I'll purchase a bar this week and see what happens.

it may have more to do with the fact that its fat and protein than it does with muscle. fat and protein is much harder to break down than carbs, and i have noticed this same thing before. just digestion of it can send your heartrate and temperature up, which would add to increased vascularity
