View Full Version : Anyone Else Have Problems Finding Clothes that Fit?

I have the hardest time finding clothes that fit. Especially jeans. I usually end up having to buy men's jeans because all the women's jeans seem to be made for skinny-ass girls with sticks for legs and no waist. I guess that's typical America (or any other country, for that matter) for ya! LOL Never fails: If the jeans fit in the waist, the legs are waaaaay too tight; and if they're roomy enough in the legs, the waist is falling off my ass. Men's seem to fit better (roomy in the legs on a size 28 waist).

Shirts are a bit of a problem, too (which is why I usually wear T-shirts or tank tops). Armholes and back are almost ALWAYS too tight.

Ah well. Could be worse. I could have to shop at Lane Bryant (24-plus sizes). LOL

Anyone else have this problem? Also: If you could recommend a particular brand that seems to fit female bodybuilders, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm starting to see that also, Natural...a sweet inconvenience for me tho, since I used to have the muffintops and dunlap disorder (gut dun-lapped over the front) I have found some jeans though with "stretch" material? I kinda like the tightness....shows off the muscle a little better...

Thanks for the "stretch" material advice. I'll check into it...

What the heck is "dunlap disorder" and "muffintops"??? LOL

Oh lawd....lolol....muffintops are the things that hang over the back of your pants when they're too tight, they look like muffin tops...love handles?

the Dunlap is when your stomach has gotten so fat that your pants are cutting into your gut and so your stomach dun (translate: done;has already) lapped (spilled over) over your waistband, hehehehe

I get shirts from Victoria's Secret, and I wear Lee's one true fit jeans as well as jeans from Old Navy. I also avoid long sleeve shirts, and wear sweaters when it is cold over my no sleeve or cap-sleeve shirts.

Oh my gosh YES!!! And I have nobody to talk to about it (besides the ladies here), it's SO FRICKEN FRUSTRATING!!

I desperately need new jean shorts but can't find any to fit!! Seems these days the only style is the real low cut ones that ride around your hips and basically, I have no hips but yet I have a bubble butt and large quads. So pretty much every single pair of jean shorts I try on I have the same exact problem. When they fit me nicely over my butt and legs, then there's a HUGE gap in the back so that if I were to bend over, you'd see right down my shorts! Then, if I go down a size or more so that it fits me in the hips, well heck, then I can't even get them up over my butt!! GRRRRRR! And I can't seem to find any other style of jean shorts these days! I do have one or two pair of those, only because they either came with something to tie them with or a belt so that I can pull them tight enough around my hips. I want jean shorts so bad but can't find any to fit me! WAAAAHHHH!!

For jeans, I find that women's Levi's 550's fit me good as well as men's Levi's 560's.

Shirts, yeah, same thing. I've got a few cute crop tops that are either quite tight around my shoulders or one of them, I ended up having to cut the sleeves along the bottom to give my shoulders enough room. It's motivating though cause I bought those crop tops way back before I started weight training and that's the only part on the tops that don't fit me anymore.

I've found similar problems with some shirts, they are too tight around my chest/lats & shoulders but tapered nicely around my mid-section.

So yeah, I REALLY want to know where female lifters are supposed to shop when it seems every friggin store that exists makes their clothes tailored to those stick manikans you see around. I mean I've even bought from stores that supposedly make clothing for male and female weight lifters/bodybuilders yet I've been disappointed there too! Same type problems!

Ugh, yea :-( My quads have gotten pretty big, but my butt has gotten a little smaller, and my waist has never really been big. Put it all together, and you get huge-waisted, tight pants lol...they look silly with a belt scrunching the waist up. Or I just let them hang a bit, which isn't very flattering. I haven't even tried finding a pair of shorts except for the couple old pairs I wear to the gym. The only place I find good pants is at Aeropostale, because they make them in short lengths, but the waists are still big. :-\ Hopefully when I lose more bodyfat that'll help, or maybe I'll just have the same problem a size smaller hehe:-)

Ahahaha, jeans. I'm a size 3 but I need to buy 7 because they're the only things that fit over my thighs and butt =(

Cords usually fit me better than denim, try looking into that.

Oh, my ... no, I don't think I've ever had that problem, but that was quite an illustration. LOL ;)

Ahhh...all I have to say is I am relieved! I thought I was seriously the only woman in America who has to find "stretch" jeans. (A lot of my friends have itty bitty waists and don't even work out! Geeez) My waist is not extremely defined and since I've been doing lots of squats...it feels like I've got the JLO thing goin on.

If it doesn't stretch, I can't wear it! 2% spandex is my friend. So far David Bitton's Buffalo line works best for me...marshmallow girls walking around on popsicle sticks...

If it fits my shoulders and bust, it will drape like a gigantic circus tent at the waist and hips. I am known for popping (and occiassionally RIPPING) shirts. Quads always too tight unless I buy something baggy...

This is random but I just came across this site www.zafu.com - you can enter in how jeans normally fit in the waist, the butt, whether you like short, medium, or long, etc...and they'll give you a list of different jeans that fit your body type. I like it because they give you the small, medium, or larger/athletic thigh option!

um ya. lets talk about how i wear a size 11 jeans and they have to be stretch! but my waist is a 5....so i have to wear a belt everytime i wear jeans. it sucks especially cuz i cant fit in jean shorts or skirts without them hanging off my waist. i've had this problem since middle school thanks to genetics.

The "itty bitty waist" wouldn't be so bad (I should feel blessed, really), but I've got a small waist and big legs, so that makes finding a good-fitting pair of jeans nearly impossible. :(

I guess, like everything else in life, there are good and bad sides to bodybuilding!

I'm extremely glad to hear that I'm not the only one who can't find even ONE doggone pair of jean shorts to fit after shopping in at least 6 different stores!! I've not met even one other woman who can relate to what I'm going thru with the jean shorts. I guess most of the women I know have hips but no butt and legs, heh. I'm the opposite.

I have a heart shape to my rear end and legs at a size 3. Curves are great if you can find things that fit them. My "bloat day" jeans are a size 5 and they don't fit in the waist anymore. Compensation = longer shirt. But when I lean forward to grab something, you see a lot more than intended. My favorite stretch curvy /bootcut jeans (519's) were sold at the Levi Store, and some frou frou upscale shoe store bought them out and do business there now. I have yet to find curvy shorts that don't ride up, or the seam edges start rolling up when moving. I wish I knew how to sew textiles.

At my current BF of about 18-19%, any kind of tailored or fitted shirt with a short sleeve is an impossibility. Can't get my arms through most of the ones with no button. The ones with a button, even if I undo it, blech .... my arms look like trapped sausages  Even if you look at the bigger sizes, all the sleeve openings seem to be the same size. So, do the people that make these things think everyone form say, size 6 to size 14 has the same sized arms??? Idiots!

When it comes to other tops, nothing with buttons down the front will fit across my chest and shoulders unless I go about 3 sizes up and then the rest is like a tent.

I don't usually have the jeans problem cos I carry most of my BF round my belly and need the bigger waist sizes :o

Thank you, bttrthnb4! I just bought my first pair of stretch jeans (size 7), and they fit great! Perfect in the waist but roomy enough (thanks to the stretchy material) in the legs. Thanks again for the advice. Like these jeans, a good piece of advice stretches a long way. :D

yeah i agree finding jeans is the worst!..you either have to buy them a size bigger and then they're too damn big around your waist so you're constantly pulling them up from around your crack, cause your belt isn't doing the best job it could... OR you get them the right size for your waist, but then they're so bloody tight around your legs that you feel like you've just stepped into a 80's rock video..YIKES!

lately i've just stuck with a pair of khaki's I found at Campus Crew, that thankfully fit just fiiiiiiiiiiine. :)

SO to summarize.. demin bad :( khaki's good! :D

LOL ugh yea, the new 'skinny jean'...talk about totally unflattering and straight out of the 80's! They look horrible on me, I don't need to accentuate these legs any more lol. I think they're just made for the lanky girls :-\

Not only finding a great pair jeans is like finding a needle in a haystack but try finding one with a 35 inch inseam along with room for the booty and not so darn big around my waist!

I don't even want to get started trying to find shirts for my amazon arms and broad shoulders.

My wife has the same problem since she now has a butt that she never had growing up
then her legs caught up, now she complains her jeans won't fit
I have to tell her "baby, unless you stop leg pressing 6 plates a side, you ain't getting into THOSE jeans again."
She's got broad shoulder too, so it's sleeveless or tank shirt with a sweater or light big shirt over it (she's a teacher and can't show her senior boys that her arms are bigger than theirs)

I don't know... but I always get a kick out of scaring the young lads... when they realise I may be shorter than them and a girl, but my arms are bigger and I can lift more.... kepps them in their places....

I wear Levi's low slouch jeans. They're not the best fit, but far closer than anything else I've been able to find (also, their stretch jeans work- however...they tend to stretch out by the end of the day and are just as baggy as reg fit). I also have the no hips, big quads, small bubble but issue that makes jeans that fit my legs loose in the waist/butt and jeans that fit my waist uncomfortably snug on my thighs. Unless you can afford to have all your jeans tailored, belts are your best friend. LOL Try adding being short to the equation....it sucks that much worse. I swear I owe part of my calf definition to wearing 4" heels almost everyday.

Oh, Lawdy ... I don't know how you girls do it. I could never wear high heels. (Thankfully, at my height I don't need them.) They are soooo uncomfortable and not healthy, ergonomically speaking. For me, comfort comes first! In fact, I don't even own a pair of shoes with a heel on them. LOL I don't care how good it looks; if it ain't comfy, I don't wear it. Period.

Howdy, gals!

Just thought I'd share this with you...

I went shopping today. Long story short (and mucho dinero later), I found good-fittin' shorts for muscle gals like us! The brand is Under Armour. They're kinda/sorta like gym shorts but can be worn with tank tops and stuff outside the gym and still look cute (and, more importantly, comfy!). The material feels like soft cotton, but it's actually kind of like lycra/spandex (maybe 5 or 10%).

Just wanted to let you know ... if you don't already! :)

Thanks! I'm going to keep that brand in mind the next time I go shopping!

Oh, speaking of which, I'm actually a happy camper cause at Walmart, no less (I was very surprised to have found something at Walmart), I found some awesome tank tops and shorts that I just love! They are super compfy AND they look flattering on me! Right now they are my new favorite brand! The brand is Athletic Works. They make two different kinds of tank tops, both nice and slim thru the mid-section, (form-fitting) one is a regular length (and not like those mega-long ones that are long enough to cover your butt either) racer back style and the other is a cropped length double spaghetti strap type tank. The cropped length ones are my favorite! They make two different types of shorts too, I like the ones that are 100% polyester, they've got all different colors with a slit and stripes on the sides, they seem to fit me best. They are not low rider type shorts but they ride right under my belly button and are regular length, not daisy dukes and not mid-thigh length. It is athletic clothing that is the type that is flattering to wear pretty much anywhere.
