Hi derek, I know you only wanna answer questions about your prep in here so I have a couple I was always gonna ask you but never got around to. I've kept up with this forum from day 1 and I could have missed the answers to these but I doubt it cause I've read bout everything ne here ne wayz here's what I was wondering.

1. You started your diet 15 weeks out and said no milk. Then you get to 12 weeks out and have milk, oats, whey, and raisens post workout which is an awesome postworkout meal thanks for the idea. Ne wayz I was just curious why people pull milk out of their diet. I've been told it makes you retain more water. My trainer for my last contest had me pull it out at 12 weeks out while Layne says in his contest prep dairy is good till the wednesday before the show. I was just curious what your thoughts are on this and how long you plan on keeping milk in your workout.

2. On the same note kinda, I was curious why you take the nightime protein before bed instead of having cottage cheese. I'm assuming since its nighttime protein its high in casien which cottage cheese would be as well. Do you just take it because its part of your suppliments you get for doing this section? or is there an advantage to it?

3. This one is kinda OT but I was just curious what you are majoring in in college. I was just curious cause I graduate from high school sunday and am planning to either go for sports nutrition or exercise biochemestry.

Ne wayz thanks in advance for your answers and I'm sorry bout throwin the 3rd question in there but I was just curious. I'm curious to see what your answers will be.

1. When I started dieting I did not think I had room for the milk (carb wise). But I did and things have been working great with it.
Some people suggest you drop dairy products while dieting because of the lactose. If you are lactose intolerate, the lactose basically sits in your digestive tract while bacteria builds up and breaks it down, which creates gas/diahhrea. The body uses concentration gradients to regulate itself. Things move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. The breakdown of lactose in your digestive tract causes the build up of certain products. This increases the amount on one side, but not the other. In order to even things out (the concentration), water is drawn into the digestive tract through osmosis. This lowers the concentration in the GI tract, and creates the bloating.
Some think that any amount of lactose will cause this, but it shouldn't be a problem if you are not lactose intolerant.

Even if you are not lactose intolerant though, lots of people get gas or bloated from diary. Therefore, by stopping your dairy intake the Wed before a show, as Layne suggests, you take out the chance that this could happen to you. It is better to play it safe.

2. Less carbs.

3. Exercise Physiology.

Alright it all makes sense. Thanks for the answers. I'm not lactose intolerant and was gonna keep in dairy till when layne suggested next time I compete. I'm glad you agree with that theory as well. Totally getcha on the lower carbs on the protein. That's what I kinda figured. Exercise phisiology sounds like a cool field to go into. I'm really undecided but I wanna go into something in that sorta area because all the stuff you and layne and fletch say is really interesting to me if only I could 100% comprehend it. Thanks again for the quick reply and good luck on the contest. You are look huge and ripped already and I can't wait to see what a few more weeks will do to ya.
