Umm...because of certain members whose maturity has gone down the drain(flames, fake stats, Trolls) I will no longer give advice, comments in other sections. I will still post in this thread (this section) but I have unofficially "banned" myself from teen bodybuilding, exercises, sports training, and Derek's Contest Thread. I am getting tired of constant lies and flames. I will update this thread and post or comment in the Powerlifting/Strongman section because of more experienced lifters who obviously know what they are doing(Bigpop,Painthriller, etc.) These are probaly some of the best knowledgle people in this section and I appreciate that. But my last message is this: Enough with the flames and dumb post, we don't need that here.

Thanks Bigpop and others for the videos. I'll make sure more are on the way.
thanks for the words and the post in my journal bro :)
yeah, some of the people in other sections on this site are a joke. o well, this section keeps moderatly free of it :)

Right now, I am trying to find a special video on my computer that contains the squat for reps (a safari vechicle weighing 710,the most ever used for squat reps) that was used during the 2001 World's Strongest Man Finals. But here is a picture of Martin Muhr of Germany who did 6 reps of 710.
If this pic does not get you wanting to squat, nothing will.
http://www.martin-muhr.de/fotos/0008_67.html
And here is Hugo Girard Squatting:
http://www.hugogirard.com/photos/136.jpg
Here were the results of the squat:
1. Svend-11-reps
2. Hugo Girard-9 reps
3. Stumpy Raynes-9 reps
4. Martin Muhr-6 reps
5. Janne Virtanen-4 reps
6. Jarek Dymek-1 rep
7. Phil Pfister-0 rep
8. Juha Rasanen-0 rep
9. Wout Ziljstar-0 rep
10. Magnus Samuelsson-0 rep(he needed at least one rep to win or get second place)
Here is a pic of the Finals Group. I nicknamed them "the 20in group" because every member had at least 20in biceps or more.

This video I am posting has little to do with weightlifting(or strongman) but I feel it belongs here because of one reason: Wout Zilstra. Wout has competed twice in World's Strongest Man (1998-3rd place, 2001-10th place) and has comitted himself to only highland games for now(he is a good competitor and friendly if you ever meet him). He also use to do powerlifting(kind of sucks at bench) and did a deadlift of 750 at WSM 2001. A great allround guy, very energetic. Here he is , the last video on the second column(It says Wout Ziljstra):
http://www.vp-prod.com/wc03.asp
Note: weight for height is very hard to master. An average highland games member can do over 16' ft.

Here is some info about the Champions Trophy of Holland
13-06-2004 DOETINCHEM - HOLLAND
Mariusz Pudzianowski won again a Champions Trophy last weekend. He beated a field of 10 very strong athletes during the CHAMPIONS TROPHY HOLLAND 2004. The first 5 events was leaded by Svend Karlsen, but he lost the endgame and got 2e place overall, with Zydrunas Savickas in his neck on 3rd place! A new man from Holland, Edwin Hakvoort , had a good performance in his first big international contest by winning the Truckpull and ending on 8th place overall.

Strongman needs to be better publicized. Here we have the best, most widely available medium behind the TV, the Internet, with all that power and potential, and yet it is so underutilized by the people who should be making it a priority to foster the sport. What Im getting at is this: The stupid IFSA website is so damn awful that they have barely any info on its Grands Prix. the info is bare bones. No pics, no videos, even the results are just briefly mentioned. I know Mariusz won in Turkey, I know who was second and third, etc. What I dont know is just as important: who got how many points, what were the competitions, what were the poundages, how did people do at each competition, I wanna see some pics but there are none, I wanna watch a short vid, there are none.

I have no idea who won what competition at the Muscle Power in Quebec. How freaking pathetic is that.
Yeh, I feel sorry for the people who don't have Eurosport. Today's Champion's trophy was pretty good(Pud was evil there..). I am not to familar with the way the US gets info on strongman, but it seems to be not good.

Well, I just wrote all the big wigs at IFSA an email about this.
here is the email:
"Strongman needs to be better publicized. Here we have the best, most widely available medium behind the TV, the Internet, with all that power and potential, and yet it is so underutilized by the people who should be making it a priority to foster the sport. What Im getting at is this: TheIFSA website is so awful that you have barely any info on your own Grands Prix. the info is bare bones.
I am a fan so despite such huge problems, Im willing to follow the sport. However, this is not something that people who may be just getting into the sport, may be willing to do. This is a huge problem. Every major league in sport all over the world, be it the NBA, FIFA, the rugby people, Olympics, etc have comprehensive and indepth coverage. The IFSA coverage is pathetic. The Super Series site was rather good, so where is a similar site for the Champions Trophy? Is this not the new elite trophy and elite competition? Will the coverage simply boil down to bare bines winner, 2nd, thord and 4th places? From YOUR site I have no clue who got 6th place or last, I have to search all over the net just to find out.
This is pathetic. This needs to change. Quickly."
I dont have Eurosport cause I dont live in Europe, and my coverage is really pretty bad. Compare that to the NBA. I can find even the most minute stat about any player I want to know about. Nothing like that exists in this sport. And what kills me is that is so damn CHEAP to do it! Setting up a site, hiring 3 people to put info on it about major events. Is that so damn complicated and expensive? Geez, hire 3 kids from highschool and pay them 10 euros an hour. It doesnt need to be fancy.I just wanna know what went down.
This is even more pathetic. The big wig, the man the boss, Dougie Edmunds. The guy who runs this sport cant be reached. reason is that the email listed in the official IFSA site is wrong. Either he has no email, which I cant believe, he changed it and they just didnt bother to change it (my guess) or whatever, this is just damn pathetic.

Not only are the US screwed televison wise-the finals is only a month ahead of World's. Germany's finals are the same way, one of the reasons why we have done so bad. Does ESPN show World's?

I'm not sure what this qualifies as, but I've got a video of a bodybuilder/strongman getting run over by 7 trucks in a row and getting back up like it was nothing. The site that I originally got it from (lmnotv.com's Guinness Primetime sub-site) has since been redesigned and I couldn't find the video. If somebody has hosting I could upload it. It's only about 2mb.

Some news:
On jUly 9th Pudz won the Polish cup and retained his supremacy in Poland. Then he flew to Moscow and won the 2 day Moscow Super Series. Savickas was 2nd. Interestingly, Bergmanis set a new WR in the log lift: 190kg!
Jarek Dymek is out of prison. Hopefully he can get back in shape soon and start competing again.

Does anyone have links to any videos of strongman 'tricks'... things like tearing a pack of playing cards into half or quarters, or tearing up a phonebook?
And has anyone found the video that was mentioned before with the guy who gets run over by 7 trucks? that sounds unbelievable.
The guys at DieselCrew.com have a few card tearing videos along with many other different feats of strength.

Yeah, that's their video page. There are four sections: Strongman, Powerlifting, Olympic and Grip. The card tearing videos are in the grip section.

i do not know of 7 truck video but will get it soon :)
I've got it, and if somebody gives me a place to upload it, I can. It's a quicktime .mov file, just a little over 2mb in size. Not huge, but beyond any free hosting capacity of mine.
The Guinness World Records TV site it used to be available on went offline a long time ago. It was indeed from a TV show, but the excerpt was also published as public domain online by the show owners, so it's not in violation of any piracy laws, German or otherwise.
I've got some screengrabs, plus some other pics of him getting run over by different trucks. Here's 3 screengrabs and 2 other pics of him under the biggest trucks, 9-ton freight liners:

International developments in WSM. Late 2004 TWI, IFSA and WCE have ceased cooperation. WCE and TWI will go on together. IFSA, with it's new name "IFSA Strongman" will go its own way.
Short explanation: Since 1977 TWI owns the rights and use of the name "World's Strongest Man". Since 1995 TWI organised WSM together with IFSA. WCE owns the rights to the name "Super Series" and has organised them together with IFSA since 2001.
WCE and TWI agreed late 2004 to work together on a new setup for the Super Series and WSM.There will be a new series under the name "World's Strongest Man Super Series" (WSMSS), of which the first meet will be on April 30, 2005, at Muscle Beach, California.
The new WSMSS will consist of 5 competitions. First and second place finishers of each meet will automatically place for the WSM. 8 wildcards will also be available: 4 will be given to athletes who have competed in at least 2 WSMSS competitions and 4 more will be given to "sponsor-selected exceptions". To participate in one of the WSMSS athletes can qualify as follows:
- direct invitation by the organisation (sponsor-selected exceptions)
- selected national and international comps (Fit Expo, Britain's Strongest Man, etc.)
- selected national or international competition series of a country or region (Poland National Cup, Strongman World Cup, etc.)
For the first time there will be a structured calendar of meets which serve as preliminary rounds for WSM, according to Graham Fry (TWI director of programming and production). WSM will be held between August and October.
---
The IFSA, in turn, is now running its own course: As of late 2004 the IFSA is no longer a federation but a company called IFSA Strongman Ltd. On Feb. 14 IFSA-S lauched its new website, where it becomes obvious that most national federations have allied themselves to IFSA-S and most of the top WSM competitors (professionals and amateurs) have chosen for IFSA-S.
IFSA-S has created the following "IFSA- Strongman Pro-Teams":
Gold Level professional strongmen:
Magnus Samuelsson (Zweden) (captain)
Vasyl Virastyuk (Oekraïne)
Zydrunas Savickas (Litouwen)
Svend Karlsen (Noorwegen)
Raimonds Bergmanis (Letland)
Hugo Girard (Canada)
Van Hatfield (USA)
Phil Pfister (USA)
Silver Level professional strongmen:
Mark Philippi (USA) (captain)
Tomi Lotta (Finland)
René Minkwitz (Denemarken)
Juha Räsänen (Finland)
Karl Gillingham (USA)
Jessen Paulin (Canada)
Nathan Jones (Autralië)
Bronze Level professional strongmen:
Geoff Dolan (Canada) (captain)
Oli Thompson (Engeland)
Andrus Murumets (Estonia)
Mark Felix (Grenada)
Brian Schoonveld (USA)
Jarno Hams (Nederland)
Jon Andersen (USA)
Anders Johansson (Zweden)
Steve Kirit (USA)
Heinz Ollesch (Duitsland)
All 25 of these athletes (professionals) are under contract with IFSA-S. IFSA-S coordinates their careers and they receive a (base) salary from IFSA-S. Also it is possible for the world's best amateur strongmen to be coached by IFSA-S. On the website of IFSA-S the names of the top 25 IFSA-S affiliated amateur strongmen have been published. IFSA-S calls this group the "IFSA Strongman Elite Athletes".
[... snipped piece about dutch amateurs...]
IFSA-S has also created a whole new ranking system and will, in addition to many national and international events, also organise its own "IFSA World Strongman" on September 24 in Quebec, Canada.
Attentive readers will have noticed the absence of one important name: Mariusz Pudzianowski. On the IFSA-S website Pudz is still labeled as "suspended for violating the IFSA-S health policy" during WSM 2004. He has been taken out of the results for WSM 2004. His suspension lasts until November 8, 2005. However, last week (Feb. 9) Ironmind.com wrote that both Pudz and Dymek have opted for the WSMSS, making a return to IFSA-S unlikely.
After a flying start on Feb. 14, the website of IFSA-S had been taken offline again yesterday. The reason for this is still unclear.
As well as the WSMSS and the IFSA-S national and international comps, there are also still the World Strongman Cup competitions. The originally Austrian organisation World Strongman Cup (WSC) organised 9 meets in 2004 whcih took place in Austria, Spain, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Russia and Canada. The WSC meets are broadcast worldwide, in Europe by Eurosport.
The top 10 qualifiers of the WSC Final will compete in the first WSC meet of 2005. The top 5 of this first WSC meet will automatically be qualified for the next WSC meet, as well as 5-7 invitations by the WSC organisation. The WSC will strive to give as much new talent as possible a chance.
It is expected IFSA-signed athletes will not be allowed to compete in either WSMSS or WSC meets.

i could be wrong here but i dont believe thats considerd piracy.
it was played on TV, which you could pop in a vhs and tape it and youve already bought the cable so i think you do have the right to tape it.
now if you bought a box set from a store, ripped it and copied it, THATS piracy.

some people were making money (copies and sellling) like i was earlier...
i have been getting pms on videos selling before. i delete the pms now.
for example: look at the World Strongman Cup videos, notice they are made by the website themselves(no Eurosport, or any other tv company). this is ok. strongman who make own videos are ok.
but rekording it off of tv and showing it on the internet in entire mode is not ok. no permission. there are ways to rekord them. basically, if you look at a futball game, look at the disclaimer. Notice it says permission to copy etc.
if you have any more ?s, feel free to pm me.

The thick handle is the problem and the bar does not spin either. That's why it is very hard to powerclean it and press it.

Well one clip I was 3 inches below parallel. The other was just a training lift that was ok. Thanks for your "concern."
Dude- That is sick. How much weight is that? Your form is fine...I think these bodybuilders are insane with critique.

Well I'm sorry if I didn't brown nose you enough. I said your lifts wer impressive. What more did you want? For me to bow down and kiss your feet?
Anyone who can go that low with that much weight knows FAR more about squatting than anyone commenting on this thread. So, any negative 'concerns' should probably be kept to yourself, unless you are only asking so that he can educate you.

sorry, but how do you work that one out? Do you know all the lifts everyone on this thread can do?

It's a lot of weight, yes. A lot more than I can do. At least, thats what I think I can do, because I prefer Olympic type squats - tru full squats. I don't believe in the powerlifting form. And if that upsets you. Cry me a river.

wow. tons of angst between "proper" powerlifting form and bodybuilding form for both squats and benches.
Powerlifters have a specific standard to attain their lifts. The judges are very strict. Arch in back is allowed, pause on chest, etc. The squat has to be just to beyond parallel, period. That's what powerlifters do, and they lift the heaviest amount of weight possible within that form.
Bodybuilders might prefer a different style or method because it utilizes/activates more muscle tissue in the pecs/quads/whatever, but powerlifters don't give a crap. they don't want to "drop the weight a little" to see if they can "bottom out"
they want to move the most weight possible within the confines of the standards set by their powerlifting federation.
I don't get why that causes so many people so much angst.

the dvd sample itself pretty much contains all the training on the video. the dvd is 75% talk in polish and 25% actual training. i expected too much =(
So you must learn Polish language ;)
