If there is something that seperates the pros from the amateurs it is the lats. Theres alot of people that can have good looking pecs and bi's but i never seen anyone to rival pro's Lats or even come close. Pros just have an amazing lat spread as is the case with you Derek. Now i know this has probably been asked a million times but what exercise(s) do you feel has helped u the most in this area and also any tips, or technique, advice is welcomed. : )

Low rep weighted Pull-Ups. The initial pull should be totally with the lats (before you bend your arms). No momentum. No swinging. Do not be concerned with weight, but rather the feel of each rep.

Derek,

On pull-ups, how wide of a grip would be best for building lat width?

I've been doing fairly wide grip pull-downs which I really feel in my lats. When I do pull ups, Im a little wider then shoulder width(not as wide a grip as pull downs). But, I don't feel it so much in my lats.

Your progress is fantastic!!

Chris

My name is not Derek, but Derek will probably say shoulder width pullups/chinups - that is what has worked for me anyways. Remember that this is not an arm exercise - the movement should be started and controlled by your lats. If you do it right you WILL feel it there.

Correct :)

The lats insert into the proximal humerus (bone of the body arm). Using a grip wider than about shoulder width increases the involvement of the biceps.
