Hi all! I'm doing my first competition in 5 weeks and just wanted to know how much I can expect to lose in water weight during the last few days? I was advised by my trainer to start taking herbal diuretics 3 weeks out & then we do water depletion on the last day or something like that.
Thanks!
Erin

I don't want to say anything against your trainer, but consider finding another source for water depletion. 3 weeks is far too long to water deplete. As a fitness competitor, I didn't cut water until the last 4-5 days, and I was using dandilion, urva-ursi and PMS teas. My plan looked something like this for a Saturday show:
*This worked well for me, but each person's body works differently and you may have to adjust for your body*
Tuesday Keep water intake same as normal
Wednesday cut sodium from diet--- at 3 pm begin tea regimine with each meal; Keep water intake normal
Thursday continue taking tea cut; water in half (H20 for tea counts) If I drank 1.5 gal/day, I cut to 3/4
Friday continue tea, cut previous day's water in half again
Saturday just sips as needed
The main thing is making sure you are taking in a large amount of water now so when its time to shed the water as you begin to deplete, your body will continue flsuhing it.
I have lost up to 4-5 lbs in water in the last few days before competition, but have heard of some athletes losing much more.
Hey Erin,
I've seen the progress you've made so far on david ford's website and you are doing great. I'm not so sure about B & D's take on this one though. Taking diuretics three weeks before a competition seems a little excessive.... especially for figure. But if that's what they recommend then I would stick to their game plan.

Yeah B&D did suggest the diuretics 3 weeks in advance. Everyone I've talked to says its extreme too, but I've just been following what they say so I'm trusting their advice. They said around 5lbs of water weight is normal, so that is where I was thinking. I guess i'm just getting nervous about everything and starting to question everything, when I should just suck it up and do what B&D say to me, hey? haha
Thanks for the input. How did you know it was me who was on the Alberta bodybuilding site?
Thanks again! Take care,
Erin
Yeah, after I posted that, I thought that maybe I was a little presumptuous in thinking that it was the same person. I bounce back and forth between the abf site and this one during the day and have come across a few of your posts. Keep up the good work 5 weeks to go!

Hi Summersgirl,
Would you mind sharing the exact teas you used and did you drink one cup a day?
Thanks!
