I really spoke too soon when I said everything was back to normal yesterday. I came home after going to the gym and found the power was once again out at my house. This time the power remained off until after I had left for work this morning. That really sucked, especially since my furnace, though it does run off of natural gas, has an electronic ignition, so basically I had no heat in my house all night. Fortunately I had the fireplace and my gas oven going or it would have really gotten cold.
That sucks :(
The power is back on now though.
Good to hear! :)

Man, that's scary.
I had a similar experience (but worst) when camping in a trailer.. It was winter and 20 below. the stupid heater wasn't working (one of those small gas ones) and i spent the night practically freezing to death. all the water turned to ice and my boots were frozen stiff!
i'm sorry to hear about the power going haywire, (twice)
what's the source? storms?

Bad ice storm here in KC. Branches keep knocking out power lines.

Remember to carb up really good, starting tomorrow night. They say two nights before is more important than the night before. Gotta get that glycogen in your muscles for the big test on Saturday.

I keep trying to reassure myself, I have been training hard for months on end. When I decided I wanted to join the police, I weighed close to 290 pounds, and now I am down to 258 pounds. I am now faster, stronger, and have more endurance than I have ever had in my life. I want this badly.
I will succeed.

I honestly do not have a shred of doubt that you WON'T fail. What you achieved already is beyond remarkable. All the training will definitely pay off.
I know we aren't too familiar with one another but I just wanna thank you for denying the odds and proving to people like me that i can both lose weight and get strong (as yourself).
It is that exact attitude that i strive for. the "NO QUESTIONS ANDS OR BUTS" ideal that destroys all negativity in its path.
you seem to have that.
Keep the faith and keep inspiring people (like you have done to me)

This is a link for the test for another city here in Kansas, but the one for Kansas City is very similar.
http://www.olatheks.org/Police/Career/Physical
This is a validated job specific course that is a total of 175 yards in length. The course entails:
*
Running a short distance out of a patrol car, face a terrain change,
*
Run under two 5 foot low obstacles,
*
Run a short distance to a 4 foot 6 inch fence, climb over the fence
*
Stair climb 5 steps to a platform and then go down 5 steps, and finally
*
Run a short distance to where a 150 pound dummy is lying on the ground
*
Drag the dummy across a line that is 15 feet away.
Candidates must complete all events within the accepted standardized time (1 minute 12 seconds) in order to pass the course. Upon completion of the test, candidates will be informed of their pass/fail status.

Thanks again everybody. After a little cheat meal yesterday, today I am right back to training. I figure I will apply at another local pd (Olathe, Kansas)in January and take their written and physical tests then too. There are a lot of factors at play here and I want to be a police officer more than anything, so I think it's important I apply at as many places as possible. I think more than anything, I wanted to be sure I was mentally and physically capable of passing their tests before I really started applying for a lot of different PD's.

I got a phone call from the human resources at City Hall scheduling me for an interview on January 7th with one of the deputy chiefs of police. Its the next step in the hiring process. I am hoping that it goes well.
Oh by the way, an update with regards to my diet and fat loss. I am still following the 40-40-20 plan exactly and although I haven't changed the weight in my profile yet, today I weighed in at 255 pounds. My gym is closed on christmas day, and closes early on christmas eve, so I may miss two workout days next week. I may have to make up for it by doing cardio outdoors. Not only that, but my birthday, christmas, my sisters birthday, and my mother's birthday, not to mention New Years are all coming up in the next couple of weeks, so some major cheating will be going on. I will do my best to maintain, but I'm not going to be so strict that I can't enjoy anything.

Don't feel bad about taking days off when you must. Your body needs it every few months to repair. I find that I come back mentally and physically stronger when I do. Enjoy the birthdays and the holidays....:D
You were physically prepared to pass their tests. Now you just need to mentally prepare for the interview. Write down every question you think he might ask (you could probably find out what is normally asked online, if you look hard enough) and answer them. Then you will have answered most of his questions before walking in the door. You can do this.

Yeah, its just tough, especially when you are so used to pushing yourself hard for weeks on end. Relaxing a little is difficult.

Thanks man, I am back on track in terms of diet today, but the weather sucked bad today and I decided to not go to the gym rather than risk my car on snowy, unplowed roads. I will try to make up for it tommorrow by doing some major cardio (1+ hour of jogging/walking). Unforunately, another cheat day is coming up and I have to really be careful or all this cheating will effect my progress. Still I have 6 months to reach my goal of sub 10% bodyfat. Oh yeah......lol
Anyway, my diet has been 100%, the only problem is that I have had too many cheat meals recently. My birthday (Dec. 21), christmas (Dec. 25), and soon my sister's birthday (Dec. 30), and my mother's birthday (Jan. 7). Also I have missed more workouts this month than I had in the entire 6 months prior to this. The biggest issue has been the weather, but the gym being closed on Christmas Day didn't help either. My weight has been pretty steady at right around 255 pounds, but I honestly didn't expect to lose much when I ate so well twice in the last week.

Now I don't quite understand it, but my gym has decided that tommorrow it will have shortened hours. Now I completely understand them closing early so that its staff can enjoy the holiday, but why in the world are they opening later than usual? They usually open at 5am, but tommorrow they will be opening at 8am, basically insuring that I will be unable to go to the gym since I have to work from 7am-3:30pm. As if that isn't stupid enough, on New Years Day, they will be open for their normal hours
So anyway, I will have to push back my first workout for the third week of smolov until Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. Oh well, Smolov is almost over anyway, an extra day of rest might help me.

Well its the New Year and I don't have any new workout plan, or exercise routine that I am going to start, in fact I just plan on continuing to do what has worked so well for me so far. I have new progress pics up on my bodyspace, and I weighed in today for the cutting contest at 252.4 pounds.
Looking at my pics from the end of the old cutting contest, to today, it is noticable that I have made a little progress over the last month and a half. My gut looks a little smaller. I'm happy with that. My gym reopened today after closing early for the holiday yesterday, so I am going to be hitting it hard with my final week of Smolov Jr.

Looking at my pics from the end of the old cutting contest, to today, it is noticable that I have made a little progress over the last month and a half. My gut looks a little smaller. I'm happy with that. My gym reopened today after closing early for the holiday yesterday, so I am going to be hitting it hard with my final week of Smolov Jr.
the progress is very noticeable man! great job, as always!

I am pondering doing two cardio sessions a day, at least a couple of times a week. Once before work, and one after work. Not sure if this will work out of not, I will try it starting next week.

Hi,
I am new to this site and have found the sheer volume of knowledge and ideas about nutrition and training to be overwhelming. I have read your journal from start to finish and reading about your transformation, the advice you have given others and the responses from others that you have received has really helped to put much of it into perspective for me.
I feel compelled to subscribe to this thread and to write my first ever post to tell you that along the way I have come to have the highest respect and admiration for your unbreakable spirit and drive to succeed. You are cleary a truly remarkable person and will forever be a source of inspiration to me personally.... Thanks!!
I also want to thank everyone else who contributed to this journal, reading all of your comments has been a great help to me!!!!

Wearing that uniform would be a dream come true for me, I honestly have never wanted something so bad in my life, except of course losing all this weight.....lol
I am 53 days into the 40-40-20 diet and all is going well. While last month I had a few too many cheat meals, this month is all about me staying focused and losing fat. Also I should mention that I stopped taking all fat burners that I had been using about 10 days ago. I was using VPX Redline and Twinlabs Ripped Fuel. I actually just wanted to use them until the police physical abilities test, but I kept using them until my supply ran out. They are pretty expensive anyway, so with the money I save, I can buy steak. :)

Yeah, even if they made a little difference, the cost was not worth the results. I have seen the same rate of loss without them in the last 10 days.

Tommorrow is the big day, my interview. I hope everything goes well, my policy is 100% honesty, because from what I hear, it is more important that you are honest than anything else.
On another note, I finished off Smolov Jr. today, and the last workout kicked my ass. For the next 5 days I am only doing cardio, as a deload. On Friday, or Saturday, I am testing my pr's. Hopefully I gained a little strength from all of this.

Sorry I took so long to reply guys, today was also my mother's birthday, and I took her out to dinner.
Anyway, the interview went great, though I feel kind of dirty admitting some of the truths about my life, but I guess no one is truly a saint. Now the next step is the background investigation, and my background is pretty much spotless (what can I say, I was a 475 pound computer geek :D )

No problem, I should know within the next 2 months whether I am going to the academy in July. After the background investigation, there is still the psychological evaluation, the lie detector test, an oral board, and an interview with the chief of police. So basically I still have a lot to do before there is a definitive answer.

Thanks, I am doing well, though I still have quite a way to go. I weighed in today at 251 pounds, my lowest weight yet, and only 26 pounds from my initial goal, which was reaching 225 pounds. My goal now of course is to be below 10% bodyfat. I'm starting intermediate 5x5 next week, a new lifting routine for a new year. I may do this routine for the full year.

Can't wait to see that. I have about 20lbs to my next goal, too. Hopefully I will get there when you do. My back is feeling much better. Should be able to start working out again by Monday. Hopefully the cortizone shots will prevent it from going out again and I can keep the training up. It is driving me crazy to have to stay away from the gym, which is a good thing. Means that working out has become a fully developed habit. I just don't feel right without it.

Thanks, I want to be a great police officer, believe me everything in my life has come down to this point. I am finally doing what I want to do with my life instead of accepting whatever I could get in life. Becoming a police officer would even mean giving up a good job with good pay, but as I tell my friends, money isn't everything, if you have a passion for what you do, it will never be boring, and you will find happiness.

You know whats funny, I had a cheat meal on my birthday (Dec. 21st). My mother and sister took me out to an all you care to eat chinese buffet. Needless to say, I did go a little overboard (understatement). Apparently I still have the capability to eat just as much as when I weighed 475 pounds. Thats why I have to be so careful, I don't ever want to go back. Anyway I'm on 10 days now with no cheating, I don't think anything is wrong with having a cheat meal once every couple of weeks though.

I believe a cheat meal is beneficial to the metabolism, it gives it a boost from dieting. It is funny you say that tho, I had a similar experience when I was around 180 pounds. I ate like a hog at a buffet on a date and the girl was like..WTF..I explained to her I used to be fat and could eat like I was....needless to say she was unimpressed and we didnt have too many more dates...lol But I'll tell ya Tony, dont you wish you would have done this a long time ago. It is hard, but not that hard. It is all about self control. Something I have finally found.

Yeah, I wish when I was 18 I could have gotten myself in shape, then I could have joined the military like I wanted. I just have to be careful. I actually had a cheat meal last night. A friend who I hadn't seen in a while wanted to eat out. Only problem was that not only did I eat some unhealthy large portion, but I also missed my cardio yesterday because of it. To make matters worse, the food gave me horrible diarrhea and I basically found myself rushing to the nearest bathroom several times while at work today. I still feel somewhat bad, and because of the stomach problems, I haven't eaten nearly enough food today, probably consuming only 1200-1300 total. I guess I get what I deserve for cheating. That was just my body's way of telling me that the crap I ate was not good for me, and though it tasted good, it gave me nothing but grief.

I had a pretty rough day at work today. One of our contractors, while digging a pit so that we could work on a buried splice, accidently cut a 300 pair cable in half, cutting off telephone/dsl service to dozens of houses. He rushed over and found the first cable splicer he could (me :( ) and I had to spend the next six hours fixing the mess. I usually don't mind overtime, but since I haven't had a day off in over 3 weeks, I am a little tired of always having to work so much.

That sucks. You said you thought this would be less hours when you hired in. At least you are getting overtime pay.
Doc says I have a muscle or tendon problem in my back. Good news is that it isn't as serious as I thought, but bad cause there isn't a quicker solution. I'm going to cut out a bunch of exercises that strain that area (squats, deads, etc) and just concentrate on what I can do for now. Also going to see a physical therapist to see what they can do. Also was told to stop running. That bums me out. I had lots of big running plans this year. Oh well. Guess I'm not 18 anymore....:D

Here is the thing. I am a workaholic, it is something about myself that I can't change. I worked two full time jobs and 80+ hours a week for a year and a half. After that I worked a full time and a part time job and 65+ hours a week for 6 months. When I finally got a 40 hour a week job, it didn't take long for my old habits to resurface, and I found myself working on my days off, and working 11+ hours a day. I tell myself all the time to just relax, and take it easy, but every time I see my paycheck, I want to work even harder. Really this is the one addiction I have no clue how to handle.

if there is no stress and you enjoy the work and the juicy pay check then why not? For a couple of years I used to do a lot of unpaid work for my regular job at home in the evenings. While i didn't get paid there were professional benefits and rewards to be gained in the long run. This has changed. Finding training time has a lot to do with my new routine. I'm grateful for it. Balance as sensei says is the key. The opportunity to make cash can come and go, circumstances change. It can be a tough call for sure... and as you say addictive.

Yeah, my worst fear is that one day the boss will say that there is no more overtime. This happened to me at my last job and it forced me to seek a second job. I'm not making the same mistakes twice, I am going to stockpile the extra money I'm making in case of an emergency.
Anyway, I weighed myself at 247 pounds today. I'm not sure if my scale is very accurate or not, so I will weigh myself again tommorrow before I declare that my official weight.

Not me, man. I work to live, not the other way around. 40 hours is too much. Double income is nice, though. My wife is well educated. I am socking mad money into retirement, so I can actually do it before I am old and decrepid. My goal is 52. Retirement at 65 is ridiculous. Don't let life pass you by.

Yeah, I want to retire at 55 at the latest, but that will require that I work my ass off until then. Maybe I will marry a lady with a good job too.....lol

The weather around here finally turned for the good this weekend. Unfortunately I was working a lot of overtime this weekend. Still I got off early enough to hit the track outdoors for the first time in a couple of months. Its great running outdoors. It actually felt easier than running on the treadmill. I think maybe the time seems to pass faster. Also maybe the incline I am using on the treadmill is actually making jogging on it harder than on the track. I think the cool breeze also helped me from getting as hot as I do when I jog on the treadmill.

I sometimes find myself avoiding family/friends because of their eating habits. I find myself tempted to cheat often when around certain people. In my mind its like if a alcoholic stopped drinking, but still hung out with all of his old drinking buddies. It would be very hard for him to stay clean like that. Still I hate doing it, and I will spend some time with them, but I often make it shorter visits, or I only visit on my cheat day.

I know exactly how you feel. On my days off when my wife is home( which is rare with school and work) I have a helluva time keeping my diet strict. I also have lost a few friends because I quit drinking. It sucks having them a little steamed at me, but it is my body y'know. The true friends will stick around..

Here I am nowhere near my goal of 10% bodyfat, and all I can think about is bulking. I want to bulk now, though I could see that as being counterproductive. Maybe its just the hunger kicking in and trying to get me to quit. Though I think the real issue is that I want to see some strength gains. I have been training consistently for nearly a year, yet my strength gains have been slow due probably to my low calorie diet. Thats not to say that I haven't gained strength since I started, its just I probably could have gained a lot more strength if I wasn't at a caloric deficit.

Believe me I'm not ready to stop yet. Though the idea to increase calories/cardio is a good one. I am considering increasing my calories to 3500 a day, but also doing 45 minutes of cardio a day, rather than the 3000 calories a day I am eating now, and the 30 minutes of cardio I'm doing daily now.

The 3000 calories a day thing is going well. I actually have only just started doing it. I don't get hungry when eating this many calories. I am pretty much going to stay right here for now and see how it affects my fat loss. It looks good so far though.
I had a cheat day yesterday, enjoyed some pizza with friends. As I stated before I am giving myself a cheat once a week from now on. It may slow down progress a little, but it will help me retain my sanity. Also yesterday I did some hard training for my eventual try at a marathon. I ran 6 miles yesterday in one hour, so my pace was about 6 mph. Not bad, though I will try to improve.

As someone who's career tends towards stupid hours sometimes (Visual effects artist- 18+ hour days during deadlines isn't unheard of) all I can say is there's nothing wrong with working hard as long as you're being proactive not reactive... If you're so exhausted you're stumbling from one task to the next like a robot you can't see things in their proper reference.
Being able to see the big picture is really important to advancing in any field. If all you can see is the next task you have to do to get to the paycheque at the end of the week it will impede reaching your goals.
I realize this isn't really advice you need as you've proved your ability to take charge of your life, but just watch for your personal exhaustion signs if you tend towards crazy hours. Everyone is different... I get emotional and whiny and kinda ramble when I talk once I've hit the wall.
Nothing wrong with working hard, just make sure you're doing it for a good reason and that your choices are leading you towards your long-term goals.

I am holding steady right at 246-247 pounds. I'm not worried or anything, progress is nice and slow, which is fine at this point as long as I don't lose muscle mass. My macros have me eating 299g of protein a day, 297g of carbs a day, and 70g of fat a day, which is about 40-40-20. My calorie intake is 2930 calories a day. I have seperated it into 7 seperate meals. I am eating the same thing every day to make this easier on myself.
The only supplements I am taking right now are a multivitamin, fish oil, whey protein, and creatine. I am keeping it simple so as to not have too hard a time to do this over the long term.

I have heard no word back in a couple of weeks from the police department. I hope everything is going well for me in the process. I am still training hard so that I will be prepared for the physical activity at the academy, specifically the running, push ups, and sit-ups. I'm not sure how much running we will be doing there, but I'm sure if I can get to the point where I am doing 5 miles a day at a decent speed, I will be fine. I need to work on being able to do more push ups though. I can only do about 20 before I have to stop and rest.

I started my lifting a day early this week, I figured I might as well use some of those extra calories from my cheat meal yesterday to feed my muscle.
On another note I am pondering whether I should push on to 10% bodyfat, or once I reach 225 pounds attempt a recomp, you know eating a lot closer to maintenance, trying to stay at about the same weight, but lower my bodyfat percentage and increase muscle mass.
Honestly a recomp isn't easy, and I would really have to have my diet absolutely perfect. I ordered some supplements from the bb.com store that I was planning on using closer to the end of my cut, but would work well for a recomp. I'll think about it, but I still really want to hit sub 10%.

We'll see. I just bought some new supplements to help me get there. I actually don't plan on starting to use them at least until I get to 225 pounds. At that point I am going to go very strict on my diet (even more strict than now meaning no cheat days) until I reach my goal of 10% bodyfat. I am guessing that to reach my goal, I will have to get down to about 200-205 pounds. That is just a rough estimate. Of course I want to be there by the first of June, but we will see if it takes longer than I expect.

Nope. It could be water though. Whatever it is, it doesn't bother me except for the fact that I really have worked my ass off this week(and every week). Though I nearly forgot, I did make some changes to my diet recently. I moved from 2700 calories a day, to 3000 calories a day 2 weeks ago. Yea, I've found that after getting under 25% body fat or so, the cheat meals become a big problem...I mean BIG cheat meals/days. So now I force myself to make better eating decisions on-the-fly.
I think you'll be fine if you just keep the cheats small. Not cheating for months at a time isn't necessary. You just gotta find a balance there, that's all. Cheat sometimes, but cheat small.

One thing that did help me get under the 10%bf mark years ago( :( ) was I did eat more I do belive around the 3000calorie mark. I upped my protien and fat( but not keto) and dropped my carbs to 1/2 g per pound of my bodyweight. I did that for 4 days adn went back to 1g the next 3 and cycled it like that. I also did a routine similar to the one I am doing now. I alos did 45 minutes of moderate walking in the AM and PM. Like around 2 mph. I know taking advice from someone whos 400 pounds seemssilly, but I was 8% bodyfat at one time too:) Hope to get under 20% in the next 2 years. Hope my advice helps you make an informed decision. Thats good advice, all except the cheat thing. I am going to stop cheating until I reach my next goal (225 pounds). That could be a couple of months down the line, but thats alright. Instead what I am going to do is once a week I will have a day where my calorie intake is the same as every other day (3000 calories), but I don't count the macros. This will allow me to be much more flexible with what I eat on that day. Right now I am doing 40-40-20 and eat basically the same thing every day.

I know your pain man. It was exactly like this for me back in 2006. I lost 80+ pounds in under 8 months but once I got down to around 198-199 and around 16% bodyfat, I felt like I was invincible and could eat anything I wanted too. I try not to let it bug me too much, my son IMO always needs to see me upbeat and energetic, not down and depressed. Besides my marraige aint been great lately either. I understand she works and goes to school, but I do everything around the house. I mean everything. I dont get any respect or thanks at all. It sucks. But I figure it is winter, Im ready for spring and once it gets here, I will liven up. Life is so complicated. I never thought when I was a kid how fast I would grow up. ANd how much I would want to be a kid again, y'know.

I remember being a kid and I absolutely loved riding my bicycle all over the place. As I got older (and fatter) I stopped. Last year when I still weighed around 350 pounds, but had lost about 125 pounds so far, I really wanted to get into bicycling, but at the time I still was too out of shape to handle it, not to mention because I was working in that dead-end job, I couldn't afford a bicycle.
Well now I am down below 250 pounds, and I am at the point where I am running on a daily basis. It occurred to me that I am probably finally in good enough shape to handle it. Also with my new job, the money isn't an issue any more. The only problem now is the weather, but spring is approaching quickly. I would love to get to the point where I am riding all over on a bicycle.

Ok, I am going to increase my cardio from 30 minutes a day, to at least 40 minutes a day from now on to burn additional calories. Fat loss has been pretty slow since I upped my cals to 3000 a day, but it is steady nonetheless. Besides retaining muscle mass is important at this stage. I had weighed in at 244 a few days back, well now I am back to weighing 243. My goal is still the same, to be at or below 10% bodyfat by June.
I took my measurements yesterday and according to the Navy Tape Test I am at 23% bodyfat, so I still have a way to go.

Time to reveal the steel. Its been 11 days since my last cheat meal. I am going 100% clean for as long as possible. As I mentioned earlier the cheating did me no good, it just pushed back my progress. Its not like I was cheating often, just once a week, but that was enough to make progress super slow. The longer cardio sessions have been hard, but I will get used to them. I weighed in today at 241 pounds, only 16 pounds from my next goal and my lightest weight so far.
On another note, I did a 419 pound deadlift yesterday while working out, so I am getting stronger while losing weight, not an easy thing to do.

That is some monster weight, man. Congrats. There is a guy at my gym that regularly does that amount. It looks sick on the bar, just sitting on the floor. I usually warm up with him at the lower weights and then spot him when he starts gettin crazy, up and above 500. I got up to 390 last Fall and then hurt my back. I had to give up the heavy weights, probably for good. It sucks getting old.

Yeah, I started this journal to specify details with concern to my diet/nutrition, also to talk about supplement usage, goals, my weight/bodyfat%, and anything else on my mind, like me trying to join the police force here in Kansas City. My other journal is strictly my workout routines.

It is awesome seeing all that weight on the bar. Really a 419 pound deadlift isn't that much compared to powerlifters/bodybuilders, but next to the average joe who goes to the gym, when they see me lifting that, they think I am a monster :D

I'd say allow yourself to have a little something you want but just keep it in control. A little indulgence isn't going to do anything to you. By little, I mean probably no more than 1k calories for your meal. If you go 500 cals over your quota for the day, it's not going to set you back. But if you want to be completely cheat free, then do that instead. Whatever works for you.

Back in December, I stopped taking VPX Redline, it didn't seem to do me any good in terms of fat loss, though its a pretty good energy drink. Well last time I went to the store, I ended up buying some of it, and I drank half a bottle tonight before my cardio session. The stuff still has the same kick as it did before, and I had unbelievable energy while on the treadmill tonight. The only problem is that the stuff takes a long time to wear off, and I have to get some sleep tonight for work in the morning :D
I will drink the other half of that bottle a little earlier tommorrow night.

I forgot to mention that I received a phone call today, and I have an interview with the Chief of Police on Monday. This is the last step in the hiring process. The Chief only interviews the top candidates, so it is very likely, unless I completely screw up, that I will be getting a conditional offer of employment to join the police force on Monday :)
I tell you guys, this really means a lot to me. I have never gone through such a hassle to do anything. To have been selected as a top candidate out of hundreds of applicants would really make me feel great, especially considering where I was a year and a half ago.

The patience thing is definately the hardest part about this. I knew when I started that it was going to take me a long time before I was even near a normal body weight. At this point I have been going for nearly a year and a half, and I know I have quite a while before I reach my physical goals.

You've shown over the last year that you can do anything you set your mind to. Take it into the interview and even tell them what you've accomplished, if you think it will benefit. They will see what you are capable of. Any organization needs people like that. You are hungry.

Most people don't believe me when I tell them that I run 35 miles a week and have finished a marathon. Large guys aren't supposed to be able to do what we do. Let them disbelieve. You can show them what you can do in the Academy.

Yeah I tell people at work how much I run, and seeing my size they don't even think its possible. Of course I invite them to come down to the track and watch me if they would like. I realize I don't look like I am an athlete, or like I am physically fit, but looks can be deceiving.

Me too. I have read a lot from other people who have applied on the officer.com forums, and apparently it isn't easy to get on any police department. Often times applicants have to apply at many different departments in order to finally be accepted. So far I have only applied at one, and I hope I can get on there.

I see how hard you work, Fred, and you should post here as long as you want. I don't know why your weight isn't moving, but maybe you need to go back to square one and look at your intake, macro and the rest is. Do some experimenting on different intakes and macros. I am getting my Thyroid checked in the end of April, along with everything else. I know I can pack on the muscle when I really try, and maybe that is the case, since I have been consistently eating 2500cad. I talked to my trainer friend and we took before pics in december(shirtless) from all angles, we compared pics the other day and he said there is a significant difference in how my fat looks, I look defined but fat he says...lol He said here in the next month, even this month, the weight will drop fast cuz the muscle growth will slow down. So we'll see.

I think that what you have already done is more than enough for people on the forum. I think you've inspired/impressed the hell out of people based on what you've already done. I'll be honest, you are one of the people that has set a standard based on how long you've been at it. It embarasses me that I remember starting a diet around the same time you did. I slacked off after 6 weeks but then I come back to the forum over a year later and you are still at it. Like it or not, asking for it or not, you have become a role model to us.
Now I'm not trying to add pressure or burden but I'd also like to think that everyone is simply pulling for you. We've seen the hardwork you've put in and I think that we all feel that you deserve to reach your goals more than anyone. I absolutely understand not posting update pics and staying away from contests. So long as you are posting, I'm happy because in my eyes you are the leader of a pack and one that is leading by example more than anything else.

Yeah I like having a journal for the same reason. It has helped me be extremely consistent with my workout routines
Wow, that got a little too sappy and gonna go do some squats or something.
Thanks man, I just feel like I can't live up to the expectations of everyone on this site sometimes (nor should I have to).

Looking forward to seeing the final pictures. Great progress man, iv'e told you that several times in the past. I understand what you mean though, and the only way to really do it (which obviously you have found out) is for yourself, not for others. When other's do it to impress other people they always run short, you have to be the one who's in charge, and you are. I don't comment much in your journal, but I follow it as much as I can. You've always been on top of your ****, and you never come up with bull**** excuses.
Hope everything goes well from the police department.

Thanks man. Yeah the police thing is moving along. The interview was last Monday, so I have another week or so before I will know if I am in.
I went fishing this morning, didn't catch a thing, so by this afternoon, I was well rested and ready to hit the gym. Oddly enough the KU game was on right when I arrived at the gym. I hopped on the treadmill, and jogged until the game was over, 70 minutes later. So I ended up going for my longest jog ever today (Oh and yes KU won :) ).

Its trout season man. Rainbow trout is the best tasting fresh water fish I have ever had, and believe me I have tried a lot. Anyway as soon as I get my overtime for the week finished, I am back to the lake.

I am an avid Largemouth Bass fisherman. A real good one at that(serious) Once it warms up here, I am gonna start a fishing log in teh Outdoor section, displaying my fishing prowess, and now that I know how to post pics, it will be grand.

Thats really cool. I never was very good at catching bass. However I am decent at fishing in general. I mostly fish for crappie, catfish, walleye, and trout, but catch the occassional bass by accident.

I used to go up to Lake Michigan and hauled in a Salmon or Steelhead now and then. I would rank Steelhead up there with not only best fighting fish but also with some of the best eating. My favorite though was to get home and fry up some salmon in a beer batter in the ole skillet and slather on the tarter sauce. Course that's partitially how I got to be overweight too!
I'll never forget someone hauling in a small salmon and the captain cutting it up, throwing on some seasoning and then putting it in the microwave. That fish went from swimming around Lake Michigan and into my belly in less than 10 mins. Now that's fresh.

I used to do a few tournaments a year with my bro-in-law. He knows several people on the professional circuit. They all had "free" boats and gear and wore the funny shirts.....:D I learned a lot from those guys. Caught the biggest catfish of my life last summer. 45lbs at Lake Sarah in Illinois. That thing looked like a pre-historic monster. Catfishing is my favorite. I make a mean stinkbait......:D I used to live on a stocked lake a few years ago. I could cast from my back door. It was a cool place.
