I originally posted this in the losing fat forum but no one responded so maybe this is the is the better forum to post in.
I'm starting a 12 week contest diet posted in a harcore muscle magazine and wanted to know if it sounds good. Its 4 three week cycles. Each cycle gets stricter with training and diet.
The first 3 weeks as far as diet goes i'm having protein in every meal. Cutting carbohydrates by 4pm and am allowed oatmeal in the mourning plus 1-2 servings of complex carbs. I'll also be eating veggies with most of my meals. I'll be running on an empty stomach 4 days a week. My training will still be heavy but i'll drop back the weight a little just to decrese my resting time.
The next 3 cycles get stricter by cutting carbohydrate servings each cycle. Also the length of my cardio in the mourning increases. My weights will decrease and my reps will increase. I'll be adding super sets also.
A couple of Questions though:
Is this basically the drift of a conest diet? They didn't say anything about pre and post workout carbs for any of the 3 week cycles? I was going to take in 40g simple carbs PWO and maybe a sweet potato Pre workout, is this okay? Also they don't mention a carb up day. Would it make sense once a week or once every 2 weeks just to add mayb an extra 60g of carbs to spark the metabolism? Btw i'm 165lbs . any thoughts?

Why may I ask are you planning on decreasing weight so you can have less rest between sets? Are you trying to turn your weight training into a cardio session? Separate your weight training from you cardio and don't try and make one into the other.

Also higher reps do NOT make you cut and leaner.... diet does that.

I take about 3 minutes of rest normally. I wanna drop down to 2. Lowering the weights when your're cutting just a little bit is a good idea to get more reps and less rest. So instead of benching 215 for 6-7 on my first set i'll do 210 8-9 which i think is a better rep range for cutting.

I like the idea of doing supersets, also throw in some trisets and giant sets into your routine as well. During a precontest phase you want to make your anaerobic workouts as aerobic as possible because it will lessen the cardio that you have to do at the end before the show, thus prevent the risk of losing any excess muscle. Cardio should be low intensity on an empty stomack when your glycogen level is depleted, so running might not be a good idea; walking on an incline sounds much better especially at 165lbs. However you still want use heavy weight. But, however I would go no less than 8 reps and no higher than 20 reps for a warmup. Preworkout, I would stick with a slow digensting protein and some fat (such as Flaxseed oil, peanut butter, olive oil, etc.) the only thing that carbs will do before your workout is slow you down...BUT you definitely need them after your workout (oatmeal, sweet potato, etc.) Also, I would say to have a carb up day once a week, maybe on a weekend date to sprark your metabolism. At the end, no matter what it is all about diet and training hard!!! You'll be fine. GOOD LUCK!!!
