My gf has a pair of 5" heels w/ an ankle strap that she wore for her first figure show.

For some reason (I think just b/c she loves shoes) she wants to buy another pair of shoes, this time 4" heels and probably w/o an ankle strap.

What would be your recommendations regarding heel height and strap/no strap?

Thanks.

oh also, she was wondering if she could get away w/ a chunkier heel for more stability....

My shoes were a lot like the pic you posted. And I really liked them.

The straps do make you feel a lot safer. Although they're not as easy to just slip on and off backstage. After standing all day she'll defintiely wanna pull them off every chance she gets.

I noticed one of the other ladies who didn't have straps had glued their heel to the shoe. (she said it worked great)

I think a four inch heel is great and although the straps can be more time consuming to put on, they do keep the shoe in place, and her mind won't be worried about her foot slipping out. I have a sling back style, and when dieted down all the way, my heel has a tendancy to pop out. I would not go with a chunkier heel, as it might make the ankle and leg appear to not be as streamlined. The best things for stability is practice, practice, practice.

summersgirl is so right about practicing!! also, if your gf has short legs in proportion to the rest of her body, she might not want an ankle strap to break up the space, therefore making her legs look longer. however, if she has long legs, she might want the strap there. for my first show, i didn't have a strap but b/c i'm not considered short by fitness standards (i'm 5'4 and1/2") i think my legs wouldn't have looked as skinny if i had a shoe with an ankle strap. however, if stability makes her more comfortable than anything else, go with the strap!
