This monday, i'm going to seriously start my workout. I always start, do it for 2 weeks than end up stopping. I think it's because i start off thinking i can do everything. I'm 16 years old, weigh 240, and is 5'8. My original plan was starting march, i was going to run mon-fri in the morning, but i realize that just starting for 5 days in a row, with a good diet is harder to do and get used too. Starting monday, i'm going to reduce it to, Monday, Wed, and Friday. I will do about 30 minutes of cardio in the morning. I don't have a strict diet plan, becaue i don't belive in having a diet plan. Rather i am a person of choices, and it will be up to my will for what to eat each day. I know what's healthy and what's not, i'm smart enough to know a salad is better than a mcdonald's chessburger. I tried scheduals before, and they just don't work for me, so besides the Monday, Tues, Friday routine... I won't have a real schedual. I have two weeks untill my spring break, and it'd be nice to loose a couple of pounds and maybe get in a routine. Than at the end of spring break, i think i will move it up a notch, and add one more day. Hopefully by the summer, i can look somewhat descent. I took pictures of my fatass, just because most people never take pictures, so i thought i'd take pictures before i start, to see the differences, i will not post them tho, untill a couple of months and if i see gains.

This is my last time i'm going to really go for it. I always **** up these things, because i don't want to wake up in the morning cuz i go to sleep to late. But now, i have a little more time. Look at me, i can't get a girlfriend, lost alot of my friends and well have no life basically. I would really like my summer and senior year to be a better than this. No girls really say it, but its implied that it is my looks that have kept me down from ever getting a girl. I mean in all honesty, would i want a obese girl, or a skinny girl.. i prefer skinny, so why should i expect any girl to really be interested in me?

On Monday, Wed, Friday nights, i will try to report back here and just write about how i feeel. I guess this will be my online journal type thing for working out. I don't have anyone to release these thoughts too, and it's nice to have this as an option... please don't close this thread mods..

Good to see another journal. I am also 16. I'm assuming you're a sophomore? It took me many tries before I started working out and sticking with it. Defenitely start slowly, and work your way into things. Although you don't have a set diet, I have a couple of suggestions. One is to drink a lot of water. Another is to just try to eliminate the complete junk food (candy, potato chips, etc). This should help a lot.

Important question: Are you going to be doing a weight training routine? I HIGHLY recommend it.

Hey nah man, I'm a junior. I will do weight training when i drop a few pounds. When i reach 200 lbs, (not sure when that will be..lol), I will start to do weight training. Why? because i don't want to be extremly big, plus i'd be 210 or something, since muscle weights more than fat... and i think i'd be satisfied at that weight. I'm more concentrated on first, loosing some weight, and being able to be more active. Being able to run and not get tired of climb up my school stairs and not think i'm on the verge of death. I will drink alot of water, as much as i can afford or something atleast. I'm really going to try to eat healthy for lunch, but in all honesty, we only have two good tasting things, health wise.. a salad and a sandwhich, and the sandwhich isn't even too good for you since it's on white bread, and don't think the meat is reduced fat.

Since i only have two weeks left till spring break, i will probbaly just eat a salad and maybe a sandwhich, 2 days out of the week, but after, i will probaly start to pack my own lunch. I'm guessing you have a journal too over here? Gonna try to find it and read it..

Thanks for the help btw man!! Really appreciate it..

WEIGHT TRAINING WILL HELP. Sorry for the caps, but I want you to get the message. The only thing that will make you bigger is if you eat more calories. If you don't then weightlifting will help you BURN more calories by the exercise you do, and if you gain some muscle it will help because muscle burns more calories than fat.

And here is the important thing: weight training will raise your metabolism for many hours after you are done. That will definitely help. So by all means, lift weights. If you are still concerned about getting bigger, which you shouldn't be, you can do circuit training.

The point is, weight training will help you reach your goals far more quickly then you can without weight training.

Don't worry too much about your diet. No need to make it perfect. You can make it perfect of course, but don't freak out if you can't. Just try to avoid carbs before you go to sleep, and gradually reduce the amount of calories you eat.

I hope this helps.

Heissman: Here's the thing.. I actually did start with both. Cardio and Weight Training, to do exactly as you say. But i soon realized i was getting way to exausted. If i have to choose one, weighting 240 lbs.. i'm going to choose cardio atleast till i can loose 20-30 lbs. I know you shouldn't look at lbs more and bf %, but i want to be extremly smaller than what i am now. I will concentrate on just doing cardio untill school is out, which is a couple of months. actually like only two-three. I also just took up a job, and there is no way i have the energy to do weight training and cardio, nor do i have the time with hw and stuff. (I get good grades, but i'm the type of kids who struggles and i take some time on hw cuz i go back on notes and stuff.) I thought long and hard about this, and i decided to concentrate on cardio first. Atleast untill SPring break is over, which is a total of three weeks starting from Tommarow.

The first day is going to start kind of bad. I won't be able to sleep untill 12 o clock and will have to wake up at 5 o clock, so i won't get more than five hours sleep. It's alrite tho because i shood be able to sleep when i come home from school, and i got 12 hours of sleep today. I have two weeks till spring break, and than spring break, which is a total of three weeks. I'm not concentrated so much on 'loosing weight' but hoping that i can get my body to the habbit of training. They say it takes 23 days.. and it'd be 21 days.. so hopefully i can make it. Hopefully i don't give up. I think Tommarow, i will just walk and maybe do 2 minute sprints, once or twice. Tuesday, i will go a lil more intense, and than wed. i will do my plan. I will do a 5 min warm up, walk for 1/4 of a mile, run for 1/4 of a mile, walk for 1/4 of a mile, run for 1/4 of a mile, cool-down for 5 minutes. Kind of like HITT but not really. Just the idea of cooling down than giving it your best. Hopeuflly i'll have time to reply to how it went. Hopefulyl i don't **** up and eat junk food. I'm so depressed and part of it is because of my looks. I just got in accident this weekend, and idk.. my life just keeps on getting worse. I wish for once in my world, my life would be positive. It'd be so awsome to be a senior next year and not be fat, and maybe get a girlfriend while in highschool. To prove to my cousins how good i look. I guess we will just have to see how it all goes.

For the people who actually bother to read my rants: I thank You.. it may not mean jack to you.. but it means alot to me that you would devote your time to read something of mine.

You'll look great your senior year if you stick to your training. You have over 5 months, and that is plenty of time. Just gradually increase the amount you run each day, and start cutting your total amount of calories that you consume each day.

good start to the best decision you could ever make in your whole life

if you stick to this, you will be happy, I SWEAR

i was in the exact same boat as you, and i just said **** it

no more junk food, no more soda, only healthy foods

i lost a decent amount of weight (too much actually)

my life got so much better just because i was more comfortable

then i started lifting, and had a real diet and now my life's never been better, amazing friends, gf of 4 months, getting into colleges, etc...

i think it'll help alot if you write down what you eat so that way you'll know you have to answer to someone if you cheat

www.fitday.com is a great place, we can even help you eat healtheir (and still enjoy food!)

Be devoted, don't deviate, and you will thank yourself

Argh. Don't know what to say really? I didn't get in the morning and run on monday, tues, or wed. I'm really going to try and do it tommarow... but idk. Atleast in school i have been eaiting a little better... today was kinda an off day and had some awful food. Hotdogs and fries with cheese.. i know its horrible. But i figure eatin it once a week is better than the 5/7 days i used to eat it before. Typically i have a ceaser chicken salad.. i just can't eat my school salad without the dressing, but on the upside, i only use half of it. The more days go on, the more guilty i feel, i don't want to remain a fat ass for the rest of my life, but the more days go on, the more it seems that this is what will happen. It's not anyone but my own fault. Wish my devotion and hurt in writing would actually do something about it on the treadmill.

- O well.. thanks for listneing..

MagicPoint (sp?).. thanks for the help man.. maybe i will start to use the website when i get a lil more seriouse. THanks alot..

Just **** everything else and start running. Tomorrow, on the treadmill, just walk for 30 minutes. Or do some intervals of walking and jogging. Just do something.

So i started up again. Been doing it for now my second week. It been going really good. I was at 240, than droped to like 238ish and than like 236.5 or something. I tried to make a lifestyle change, i posted in some other forum, and som1 said something like..it's great that you want to make a lifestyle change, but you hve to realize that to loose actual weight you need to take a step and beyond. IDK, that is extremly logical, but i just never thought about it. I would say..hey its a lifestyle change, so i can give in here and there..i can play around here and there.. but that really doesn't work. I think the lifestyle chagne is gonna happen just when i realize how much better healtheir food is. I stopped eating fast food (still go to restaurants) but havn't ate a burger or fries for a good 2-3 weeks.. sometimes i get cravings if i pass by, but not really. Only fast food i eat is quizno's or subway, thas when i have to work and it's like 1 or 2x a day max so it';s my little reward, but even with that i make it healthy. No special sauces or manaoises, jus chicekn and veggies, and cheese(LOL, gotta have some flavor). So i been eating right and doing 2.25-2.75 miles daily on the treadmill, not all walking.. usualy get 1-1.25 miles of jogging, and thre rest walking at 3.0mph.

For sncaks i bought a couple of things..low fat pudding, low fat yogurt. Trying to make ti so i'm not killing myself. What is realy hurting me is late night cravngs. Idk. i jsut can't take them so i usually will have something, than a hour later begin to pig out. Last week i started a cleaner diet, this week (mite take more tho) am trying to cut down on the cravings.. and fill my stomach up wit something better.. fruit and milk or something like that!

Hey legend.. nice to see you wanting to make a change. It's a hard road to travel, but well worth it.

Let me repet some logical advice that I think your missing. You stated that you don't like to do weights and cardio because you get too exhausted. I am not going to get into detail how weight lifting can be very benefical to weight loss, only going to say that if properly set up in a good, manageable routine you will see MUCH more benefits from cardio + weight lifting than just cardio alone.

Do something simple to start with.

Bench press: 3 sets x 8 reps.

bicep curls: 2 sets x 10 reps.

shoulder/military press: 3 sets x 8 reps

deadlifts: 2 sets x 10 reps. Make sure you go light with these or you could definetly injure yourself.

leg press/squats (which ever you prefer): 3 sets x 8 reps.

calf raises (seated, standing.. whatever): 2 sets x 10 reps.

Do this routine every other day (schedual it M, W, F with Tues, thurs and the weekend off). You only lift 3 times a week with low volume/low weight to start with and you can do 30 mins of cardio on any of the 4 days off that you feel like it. Keep weights light.. even if you don't feel sore, or a "pump", it will naturaly boost metabolism (need to burn fat for energy). Cardio is awesome.. but without assistance your going to find it takes months and months to loose the 40 or so pounds you want to loose.

This is a simple idea and ofcourse just my opinion. Do what your body feels best doing and do it with full intensity. I do believe though that you will notice (and feel) better results by incorporating the two.

Diet is a funny thing. I have no diet to speak of. I watch what I eat (I still get burgers... just no mayo, cheese or katchup and I usually go to wendys or sonic because they clean their grills more often aka less fat that the patties are cooked in), get good stuff from the store (vegi's, fruits, tuna, chicken, mixed nuts etc) and prepare my meals before hand (I've got some killer lasagna, tofu stir-fry and some awesome chilli in the fridge right now.. all low fat, high protein and balanced carbs AND frigin delicious!!).

Good luck man. Keep us posted of your results/progress.
