I have to admit my wife bought Chinese food tonight and I ate a whole order of hot chicken wings with pork fried rice man was it good!!!!

yep, i'm due for a nice chinese dinner. sounds great

just cruising through your journal a bit...

i think that the meal #5 on your last list showed all carbs if i read it right. i'm still learning a lot around here, but why do you load carbs with a late meal?

love the workouts.

thanks

That's some massive arm work there. Very nice!

Quick question- I noticed that you do your bi's before your tri's and I've always been told to do tri's before bi's, any reason you do them that way because obviously it's working?

I don't see any reason why one should be done before the other, the two have nothing to do with each other, meaning one is a push the other a pull. Your bi's could be exhausted and yet once you start doing tri's you will see that the tri's will still be fresh and vice versa.

The only reason I start my bi's first is out of preference nothing more.

Where did you hear that the tri's should be done first and what is the reason if any, that you were told/read?

I don't really remember where I got this info from. What you say makes a lot of sense that one should have nothing to do with the other. If I can remember it correctly the Tri's are thought of as a power muscle and the Bi's as a show muscle and even though one has nothing to do with the other just taxing the body doing bi's first would degrade the effort you can do on the power muscle, Tri's. Kind of like doing cardio before your weight training. Probably just some misguided info that I've had stored in my brain for some time now.

No disrespect and this is not aim at you, but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Think about when you do a truly power movement like Chest or Shoulders, can you imagine doing Triceps first and then any of the two mention?

If anything when I do biceps first and they get fully pumped, they actually act as a "spring/coil" when doing Tri's.

First: that is a huge arm workout.

I agree with Bodyhard, the order is one of preference. When I do an "arm" day, I will actually alternate movements between bis and tris to get a "fresh" start on each movement. I start with biceps first, as my tris always perform, while my biceps can need a bit more motivation.

Keep up the good work, BH. Its fun reading your workouts.

No disrepect taken. What you say makes very good sense. It's amazing what bad info will stick with you from a long time ago. I like the thought of the "spring/coil" effect. Thanks for you feedback.

If there is anything I have learn over the years is to "listen" to my body, it really does tell you when something is not right and when something is definitely working. Mind to muscle link.

I can do heavy tricep work at high volume until the cow's come home. My biceps historically have lacked endurance and inconsistent, so I try to give them a main focus on the days I train them directly.

They have gotten better over the last year. The irony is that my biceps have always been big.

BH, I had my workout tonight. I am doing a 5x5, so legs are 3x weekly.

My knees held up pretty good today. I was using the 35's, and could not hoist them up to my shoulders. I let them hang on my sides. This way, it's more awkward. But, my knees behaved today ;)

I also warmed up on the leg extension. That works much better than the treadmill :)

As far as my form is concerned - there is a mirror, so I work out in front of it. Holding the DB's on my side was definitely more awkward so my form suffered. When I did the overhead with the little featherweight bars my form was right on (at least as far as I know, lol).

Next squat day is Friday. I will update that as well :)

I can't stress enough how much I appreciate your input :)

Insane weight on the calf raises! I am lucky, I don't have to work mine much, they look great, especially compared to the rest of me.

Wow I can just imagine how much better you would do if you could get yourself a squat rack. You wouldn't have to worry about the db and you could concentrate on the squat itself. Don't mention it I just wish I could be of better help.

Thanks! My back still feels a little pain, but the added support on the calf machine really helped. if I was doing standing BB calf raises I wouldn't even have come close to the weight I was using.

The movie was freaking great very bloody and gory I loved it but it could have had some more killing in it though :(

I still love them, I guess it takes away from the everyday BS I go through, the more unrealistic the better!

I went to a baby party the other day (my friends daughter just turned 1) my wife and I wanted to get something to eat (believe it or not they didn't have any food only beer, alcohol and munchies and it was a kids party go figure)

It was on hunts point, pretty bad area to say the least.

Anyway I saw some kids pulling on a large garbage bag and running and acting crazy and poking at it. I went over because one of the little girls was crying, when i checked it it was a dead body with the head, arms and legs cut off. At first I thought it was a dummy/manikin (it was bloated and looked and felt like rubber) but when I pulled the pants to the side I saw its penis and so I called the police on my cell.

These kids were laughing and running around it and scaring the girls with pieces of it.

The cops later found the head and the rest of the parts in other bags.

It's sad when kids get exposed to such atrocity (or adults for that matter) :(

Our neighborhood isn't too bad, but we have a house next door that has about 7 apartments in it (slumlords, ack  ). We've had some characters live there - one guy that lived there a couple of years ago looked just like Charlie Manson and was a big crackhead. Rick and I saw someone walk across the front yard, dropping money on the ground (drug deal) and one night Rick came home from work and there was a shooting the same time he walked up the stairs to the porch
All of this stuff happened a few years ago. Fortunately it has been cleaned up since then.

Never had a dismembered body in garbage bags wind up in our garbage, though. That is scary stuff.

If you ever visit, you HAVE to let me know, I will show you things that few tourist even know about.

Well it's 10:29, guess I will go do my thing. Have a great day BH!

Oh so you don't live there? I want to go there for my Christmas vacation, God willing

I think you should take your girlfriend there. :D

Hmm very inviting, this sounds like an interesting concept ;) :D

I was afraid to go heavy due to my back, but it felt pretty good. I will increase the weight according to how my back feels week by week,

The back is like the knees - they need to be treated more gently the older we get. Are there ways to warm up the back?

Wish it were just from getting older Ironic, my pain is self inflicted, well not by me directly but definitely out of my stupidity.

Hopefully, it's your SI joint, like I keep tweaking in my back. It hurts like hell and tightens up, but it is a lot better than a blown disk.

My SI whacks out every so often, but I get adjusted, ice it, and take Aleve, and I am good to go a couple of days later.

Well I don't know **** about the spine so I hope it is something that will go away and let me workout already.

Look it up online, it is fairly common to tweak the SI joint, it is from my understanding, the joint of your hipbone to the base of your spine. My pain is right at waist level, about 3 inches to the side of my spine. Feels sometimes like someone is stabbing a knife in right there.

Is your pain anything like that? Maybe a chiropractor on here might see what you say and give you some advice...

No my pain is more of a tightness in my lumbar region right by the "tail" for lack of a better word.

But also I was hit with a crow bar across that area as well so I have no idea what kind of damage is/was done. So it might still be bruised internally at least I hope that is what it is.

I totally understand what you mean here. I am the same way. It takes a lot for me to take anything, even for headaches. But it's important to get the swelling down as soon as you can when you have back tightness/pain. It helps the muscles calm down and heal. I'm sure you know all this, just thought I'd give my 2 cents. :D

I am also the same way, I don't like to take anything that my body can take care of. I tried a muscle relaxent once for my back and ended up doing more damage because of its false sense of feeling better.

Oh no, you misunderstood me. I meant to take it when you first feel it coming on and maybe for a day or two. Not as an all-the-time thing. I refuse to take anything on a regular basis. I am sort of a body purist when it comes to what I ingest.

LOL but I am not doing my one arm row the way I would normally do them, typically I do my one arm rows with both feet on the ground,my free arm resting in my inner thigh. But because of my back I am doing it with my knee and free arm on a flat bench. I really hate doing it this way but hey what you gonna do right :D

That is very true and that is why I can only go so heavy when I do them in that form. I do like to cheat on some exercises like using my legs to heave the weight up so when I do them without the bench I up the weight and cheat a little. But can't do that right now afraid of my back, but soon, real soon :D

Single leg deadlifts  I can't even imagine doing that! OK I am assuming you mean single leg SLDL correct?

DB step ups are OK but to be honest with you they seem too girlie for me, I am too damn old school  but I might just start doing them for variation till I can start doing squats and deads etc etc

What's girlie about holding 2 heavy dumbbells and stepping up onto a bench.

Single leg deadlift is similar to a step up, except you start out with both feet standing on the bench, then lower one foot down to the floor, then back up onto the bench. Repeat for desired reps, then repeat with the other leg.

Eliminates the stress on the back, but really hits the quads, hamstring, and glutes. Not as easy as it sounds, especially if you do them S-L-O-W-L-Y.

LOL You know I was just doing it here in my house with my kitchen chair and no weights and depending on how you bend at the waist it actually could be a single leg deadliftI just researched on the web, and what I described isn't either a single leg deadlift or single leg squat!

It was taught to my son by a speed coach, and he called it a single leg deadlift - right now I'm not really sure what it is.

But, it really does a pretty good job of hitting the glues, hammies, and quads - regardless of what it's name is.

The key is to stand on a bench, and step down to the side (not backwards or forwards) and slowly lower your foot to the floor then slowly push yourself back up with the leg that is still on the bench.

Makes sense it seems more like an explosive movement for all three mentioned muscles.

Let me know what you think of them.

I'm planning on doing them about 4-6 weeks before hunting season begins. Trekking up and down the mountains raises havoc with my legs - maybe this will help get them ready for the uneven terrain.

What are these? Side step-ups on a bench?

I take two db (one on each hand) stand on a bench, then sideways (not backwards) I descend one leg bending at the waist as I go down (sort of like a SLDL but with one leg) keeping the db's in front of me then when my foott hits the ground I explode back up and straighten out.

I got this exercise from Viking, very intense exercise I might add

No evening workout, wife got some Yankee season tickets from a lawyer she works with and we went to the game (great seats right behind 3rd base) Left in the 8th inning though we were wining 14 to 3 Arod didn't hit his 500 at least he didn't when we left.

Anyway we had a great time!

That's great! You came back fast. :)

Well, that just sucks. I'd complain to management about the cleanliness of the parking lot. LOL!

Great to hear, my project pretty much ends on Sept 17th and I will have more time to spend on here and look at your journal, new pics any time soon?

John, I'll post new pics after I'm on this rotation for 3-4 weeks. Vacation was a bloat-fest, lol :)

I am in an offcice so I have to make sacrifices with regard to sodium. I eat a lot of nuts, jerky, peanut butter, tuna salad packets with whole wheat crackers, precooked salmon steaks in the pouch, lean pockets, hormel turkey chilli with or with out the beans right out of the can, yogurts, apples, marie callendar and lean cusine meals etc. Many of the Marie and lean cusine items have over 20 grams of protein, the southbeach pizzas have even more. A microwave close by also helps.

I work in an office, too.

I purchased a cubicle refrigerator and I love it. I will get stuff for the week and pack it up. This makes it so much easier. This way, I can bring cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, meats, fish, chicken, frozen veggies, whatever is on my menu :)

We also have microwaves in the building, and coffee machines for hot water. It is good to utilize anything you can!

I typically work from home I am at the client site till I finish the project which will be in Sept. very hard for me to get access to anything the customer really doesn't like us to begin with I was there to renegotiate the contract which I did.

But other than that I am what you would consider a "squatter" and they keep moving me around.
