Hello, im new to bb.com so I thought Id write in and ask for some help.

I am 5'5, 165 pounds, and Im not sure what my body fat percentage is. Im trying to lose weight but am having a very hard time with it, I've been trying to lose weight for about a month and a half now but I've only lost about 2 or 3 pounds since. My ideal body weight is 135(thats what I used to weigh untill I started eating like crazy and gained about 30 pounds) I've done research and I know a little about fats, carbs, and proteins but my biggest problem is putting a good daily diet together, I dont know what foods I should eat together and its very frustrating. If anyone can help me that would be awesome

Tell your rents to buy you some protein bars and shakes and use them between full meals. At 15, all you really need to do is go on the treadmill for a half an hour a day and you should see some progress. Losing weight takes ALOT of patience. Judge by the mirror and not the scale.

Erm, I disagree with this a bit. I don't think you should have your parents run out and buy you supplements and start hopping on the treadmill.

At 15, you are probably just starting to become consious of food and it's effects on your body. It can be a slippery slope for a lot of young females, and I would hate to see you start to develop disordered eating patterns, becoming cardio obsessed or relying on supplements to meet your nutritional needs.

The best advice I can give you is to keep it simple. Just get out and be more active in your daily life. Instead of heading home after school and sitting on the couch, go out with your friends and go to the park, go shopping, etc. Pretty soon you should be able to go get a part time job (if you don't already) which can be a great way to help you lose weight. For example, I worked at a grocery store in high school and all the running around, pushing carts and bagging groceries kept me in fantastic shape! I ate junk most of the time too (which isn't a recommendation by any means, but I just wasn't consious of calories or "clean" versus "unclean" foods then).

In regards to your diet, just use common sense. There is no need to start becoming obsessed with counting calories, carbs, fat or anything else in order to lose a bit of excess fat. A few basic tips:

1. If you want to have fast food, just make the best choice you can - Order small fries or a side salad if they have them. Go easy on the dressings. Order grilled proteins if possible, and choose diet soda or water.

2. Watch your serving sizes - Enjoy your meals, and just eat until you are satisfied. You don't have to clean your plate at every meal. In fact, leftovers are great for lunch or dinner another day!

3. Everything in moderation - No foods should be off limits to you. If you enjoy chili cheese fries... eat them! Just don't go overboard, and try to limit the really decadent things to special occasions or sparingly.

4. Drink lots of water - water is so important for not only fat loss, but every function of the body. If water is too boring, try adding crystal light to some of it, or try the calorie free fruit flavored waters out now. (Aquafina has a great one).

5. Get lots of fruits and veggies!

6. DO NOT OBSESS OVER WHAT THE SCALE SAYS! - I know you said you'd like to be at 135, and I agree that this is a good healthy weight for you... however it is easy to become obsessive over the scale. You get a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction out of seeing the numbers decrease, and a lot of times that leads people past their original goals into an unhealthy weight. (I know I personally sacrificed tons of muscle way back when just to keep that scale moving down... big mistake.) Let how you feel in your clothes and in your body be your guide.

7. KEEP IT SIMPLE!! - I know I said this above, but I can't stress how important it is for you to not become obsessive over what you read in magazines or here on this forum. Please listen to your body and not some twit who tells you to do hours of fasted cardio, count calories, cut out fruit or dairy blah blah blah...

The bottom line is that eating good healthy food most of the time, being active and getting plenty of rest is what will get you back in your comfort zone in no time.

In fact... it's probably best not to visit these forums anymore... people just don't know what they're talking about most of the time and they like to push their misinformed ideas onto others...

Best of luck!
