I may try to win the novice overall this year at the mid-america muscle classic, but I'm only going to compete if I can compete at 10lbs heavier than i did last year.

I like your attitude. What weight division do you plan on competing in?

I would still be a light heavyweight. I did my first competition at 3% bodyfat and 180 lbs. So I want to be 190 for my next one but just as ripped.

Holy Cow!! How are you mobile at 3%? Did you feel like crap? Good Luck on your new goal. You should have no problem attaining it.

Yea i felt like crap. My mom took my blood pressure and pulse the day before the competition. It was 93 over 50 and my pulse was 37! So I'll admit some parts of competing aren't healthy but it was only for about 5 days so it was worth it.

Congrats on your victories Str8flexed!! Guess it's time to move on up huh?

You don't win cash at local/regional shows. Sometimes a state show will pay you way to Jr. Nationals or Nationals. The only people that get cash for competing are the pro's. Bodybuilding at the amature level is about goal setting and attaining those goals and building character. The net result, euphoria and a trophy.

Precisely. Those 3 months of hell were all worth it when they said "And your 2001 Mid-America Muscle Classic Teenage overall and Men's Novice Lightheavyweight winner is...LAYNE NORTON!" And then 400 people start going crazy yelling your name and you don't even know them. You can't put a price on that. I'll put a monetary amount on it...I felt like a million bucks!

I don't let mine go over 12%. If it does I cut back down to 8% and begin bulking again.

Hey, currently finishing my bulking cycle before dieting down for the NPC Mr Buffalo at the end of March. I am currenlty about 206lbs at 5'11 and roughly 10-11% bodyfat...my abs are visible but not obliques are not. Plan on starting my pre-contest diet 1/2/02...give myself 12 weeks to cut. Am planning on using Xenadrine about 6 weeks out because I really don't have that much fat to lose. Currenlty doing absolutley no cardio - any recomendations on how long/how frequently? I prefer the stairstepper...it brings out great vascularity in my calves and keeps my heartrate up at about 160...is this too little?

I would actually go with lower intensity cardio to help spare more muscle. I dieted for 12 weeks too. The first 4 I did no cardio the last 8 weeks I did 45 minutes of walking in the morning before breakfast 3 times per week. Got down to 3% bodyfat.

I have been bodybuilding almost all of my life. I used to be a fitness and bikini model as well as an Entertainer with a great body. Until a year ago the doctor put me on this medication that made me gain 40 pounds in 5 months and nothing I did could stop it. I have a thick layer of fat and water over all of my muscle. I've gone up 5 sizes. I finally went off of the medicine and now i'm on a strict diet and training hard to lose the excess weight. My problem is that I feel so groce and I've never been fat so this is very hard for me. I haven't been able to model so I get depressed. Has anybody else gone through this? If so please help me. Thanks....Leigh

Hi Leigh. Surely you are at the toughest stage. This is where your true strength is tested. How long have you been on this strict diet and what does it entail? Have you made any progress on it yet? Are you doing cardio? Don't freak yet, you're not too far gone. ;)
