So, I've finally given up the compulsion to graduate from nursing school with a 4.0 g.p.a. Whew! What a relief! I celebrated by getting back to the gym.

Today was 40 minutes cardio at 3.5-3.9 mph.

I'll post whatever I do for weights tomorrow. I'd been doing a circuit style whole body routine two days a week for maintenance. That lasted til just after Christmas when my med-surg clinical rotation started. Then I did NADA until last week.

I'm going to try for weights three days, cardio three days, and one day off.
I'm still doing the circuit routine thing until I figure things out. I was happy to see I didn't lose any of the miniscule gains I'd made.

I do know I want to get off the machines and back to free weights for bis and tris. The machines feel awkward, and I don't feel I'm making any gains.

Cardio is kinda my main concern at the moment. I need to lose some of the freshman 17 I gained (urgh-of course I had to overacheive there, too).

I'm eating clean-still tweaking calories and carb content at the moment. And always trying to eat enough protein.I'm really into fish lately.

I have pics to post, but don't have a clue how to post them.

I want my energy back!!!!!!!And I know my once smokin bod is still in there somewhere.

Hi There:)
I'm still doing really well, according to my instructors. It doesn't feel like it to me-this is all new to me, lol.

hi Lilac , hope you're having a good weekend so far :)

Thanks, Wedgey. I am. I'm going to study at the library for awhile (there's too many distraction at home, lol), then I'm heading to the gym. Not sure what I'll be able to do weight wise today. I'm a lil sore. Could be old arthur come to call. I was in an auto accident a few years back, and now I'm a weather barometer.

I have to get my seeds started this weekend, too!

Hi Lilac! Glad to see you back here! :)

So, I've finally given up the compulsion to graduate from nursing school with a 4.0 g.p.a. Whew! What a relief!

LOL -- I soooo understand that compulsion. :p

Your starting plan looks good -- 3 days lifting/3 days cardio. I think that will be plenty with everything else you have going on right now.

LOL @ your once smoking body. I always look at my contest photos and think, "Golly gee -- that body must still be in there somewhere!" ;)

Have a great weekend!

Glad you're doing well in nursing school, I think I'll like it too. Do you have a particular field you want to work in?

I just finished starting some tomatoe seeds myself, 300! A farmers work is never done. :(

Hi Lilac! I just graduated from a BSN program in December and passed my boards in Feb., so I can relate to the stress! I had to satisfy meself with a 3.86 GPA . All that concern about grades and tests becomes COMPLETELY irrelevant once you're an RN...thank goodness!

Good luck to you!

Well, so much for three weight workouts this week. Got to the gym and never seemed to be able to warm the muscles up enough to try the weights, so I did 40 minutes of cardio instead. I did get up to 4.0 mph finally, though.

Thanks for the welcome back,Hibby. My smokin body looked like your pre-comp pics. Honey-you are smokin ALL the time:)

Hi Chocolate: Thanks for the welcome back.

Hi Emmie: That's what I hear-that school is nothing like being a nurse, and that I will enjoy being a nurse once I survive school, lol.

Rob: No, no area of specialty yet. I'm interested in wound care, though. We haven't done the peds/ob clinical rotation yet.Didn't get my seeds planted today. Yesterday was my son's sixteenth B-day, so we're having his party today. I'll have to get to them tomorrow.I used to plant a HUGE garden. But this year will be much smaller due to school, and the fact that I have to work on the garden spot this year, as it's the first year we've planted here.Got lots of horsey poop and nice crumbly compost, though:)Can't WAIT to get dirt under my fingernails again!!!

Today is rest day for the bod and workout day for the brain.

Last night was my son's sixteenth birthday. There was pizza, cake, and chocolate ice cream. Ate some cheese and mushroom thin crust pizza and skipped the cake and ice cream. The cake is still sitting on the table this morning (a hazard in a house where I'm eating clean for bodybuilding, one son is eating clean for motocross training, and another son is eating clean because he's training for joining the Marines, lol).I thought about eating a piece of that cake for breakfast. Then I came on here and looked at my before pics.

Temptation resisted:)

Thanks Chi. It's good to be back. I'm starting to feel better already. I've been working regularly in some form. I just feel "off" and out of energy when I skip out.

That cake sounds like it needs to get OUT of the house!! Good for you for not caving in to it this morning!
Hope the "brain" workout isn't too arduous. How much longer do you have to finish? BSN program?
If there's any way I can help - academic stuff, or ranting about the academic stuff ;) - feel free to PM me. I enjoyed school for the most part, since I was so excited about learning, but some of the "busy work" that came with the classes drove me nuts. By the last semester, I was counting the weeks....

Have a good day!

hey lilac

I'm going to be doing 3 days weights and three days of cardio too....starting monday.

I used to log and was part owner of a sawmill. I think I've seen enough trauma for awhile;)But I won't rule out anything.

Nice job. That is pretty tough to pull off when you have a family. If you have a 4.0 still, you could maintain it. Just take the workouts down a notch when exams roll around. Hopefully you don't have weekly exams. :D

I have a family as well and that's my plan while I'm in med school.

Good luck!

I wouldn't mind it if I could be on day shift, but I know that ain't gonna happen. That's part of the reason behind the OR nursing, the other part would be so I could go back to school and take the degree further. I just can stop with a basic degree, lol!

45 minutes on the treadmill today at 3.9-4.2 mph. Weights tomorrow. I have to wait until Tuesday evenings to do them, because I have clinicals Monday and Tuesday which often involve heavy lifting.

Diet sucks, though. Started out well, but got PMSy tonight and ate a piece of pizza and a brownie. Oh well, life goes on.At least I didn't eat the whole pan:)

Emmie: I have FOREVER before I'm going to be done with school. I have to do the LPN to RN transition, due to finances and a really long waiting list for the RN program (lucked out and got accepted into the PN program first try). Then I plan to go on after that. I will be done with the LPN program at the end of July (we graduate in May, though-how weird is that). I'm going to work for a year, and hopefully get into the RN transition program in 2009 (if my TEAS scores are good, I should get in on the first try, as my "qualifying classes" they use to rank us with are all high grades). Thanks for the message invite. I already have a question I'll pm you if my puter doesn't die first (having probs tonight). Oh, and the cake went to someone else's house yesterday-yay!Brownies should be gone by morning, also. My fourteen year-old has company tonight.

Greenfeather: Darn-nasty knot! I see why you're ready for a change!I hear you about continuing on. I'm doing the LPN, working for a year, then the transition to RN, then onto a bachelors. It's the only way I can afford to go to school.

Mom24Boys: Nope-bike's not out yet because we are kinda flooded around here. Well, not us per say-we're on a hill, but all the bike trails and surrounding areas are. I'm counting the days till it dries out:)I went out and weeded and planted yesterday instead. It was nice to be out in shorts walking barefoot on the grass, getting soil under my fingernails (there was still some there this morning when I went to school, in spite of my shower, lol).

Fatjoe: Unfortunately, my gpa is slippin a bit now. We have exams every week, with about one day to study most of the material before it.We also have a care plan due about every four weeks. If I can keep most of my classes at As and med-surg in the B range, I'll be happy.I'm not giving up my workouts for 45 minutes of study time. It won't make that much difference in my grade, and I think the workouts are reducing my stress level substantially.I really recommend that when you're in school, you do everything you can to fit in workouts.

Chocolate Girl: I had an absolutely FABULOUS weekend! Hope yours was likewise:)

Blabber: One of my flower catalogs sells a flower that smells like chocolate. Does that count?

Have a great rest of the day everyone! I'm off to bed.

I have FOREVER before I'm going to be done with school. I have to do the LPN to RN transition, due to finances and a really long waiting list for the RN program (lucked out and got accepted into the PN program first try). I hear about the waiting lists for programs from a lot of people. The community college here which does LPN and AD programs is backed up for a couple of years. I guess I was lucky that I started the BSN program when I did. It still took me close to 6 years to finish, as I was going very part time at the beginning w/ my pre-requisites (1 class per semester), and continued to work full-time up until the last 2 semesters. I'd like to get my Masters at some point (my hospital will pay for it), but right now the idea of going back to school is highly unappealing! :p

Great job with getting the workout in yesterday! I know how hard it can be to spare the time to exercise when you feel like there is so much other stuff that needs to be done. And I hear you on having to go easy on the legs! Ever had to bend down to empty a foley bag after a leg day??!? Owwie!

Thanks, Mike. I can't put it off-due to curriculum changes I have to be in school by 2009.I'm working a year to pay for school, then going right back.LOL on the counting-there's a gal in my class that keeps track for us. The only BSN program here that doesn't have a waiting list is out of my price range until I can generate some of my own income. My husband makes a pretty good living-enough so that we don't qualify for financial aid. But with four hungry boys at home, it's not enough to pay for school, lol.

Oh yes, I've done the foley bag after leg day thing, LOL. And the transfering with the screaming arms thing.Hence, my schedule:)

Weight day today. Missed a day due to having to study for a test (lol, after I said I wasn't going to do that-ended up having to). I was reading that it may be better to go 72 hours between weight sessions with full body workouts, so I think I'm going to go to two days a week for now, but try to lift heavier. Can't go too heavy and still keep it circuit, though (I don't think, anyway).

Leg Press 15x130 12x140
Chest press 15x40 12x50
Abs crunches 12 extensions 12
Leg extension 15x50 10x70
Low Row 15x40 10x50
Abs crunches 12 extensions 12
Leg Curl 15x35 10x40
OH DB press 12x10 5x15
Abs crunches 12 extensions 12
Lat pulldown 15x40 9x50
Flys 15x10 12x15
Abs 12 ext 12
Bis 12x10 5x10
Tris 12x10 5x10

Tried to go up to 15 lb freeweights on the bis and tris for second set. Ain't gonna happen yet.

Spitfire: Thanks.I plan to start moving more toward free weights completely after this six week rotation.

Lisa: Thank you-hope your weekend is nice, also. I have family coming to visit. I'm looking forward to that. There won't be much planting this weekend, but we have some tomato and broccoli seeds started. It's starting to dry up around here-bike is coming back out soon!!

you can up the pondage, as long as you keep your reps fairly high ,and keep the rest times to a minimum. the extra weight would be a good way to add some intensity, just add a little at a time. :)

So I get to postconference Tuesday after clinicals, and find out that the state math test we have to pass every semester is the next DAY (I thought I had a couple more to go, my bad for not checking my calendar). I crammed Tuesday night and sweated it through the test on Wednesday. It was all ratio and proportion (which I'm fine with), but we hadn't had the IV stuff in class yet (although to be fair to the instructors, they had given us similar problems and told us to go see the dosage calc instructor or a tutor if we had any problems, SO, I'm not whining about them-this was all me :)

Anyway, to make a long story short, I passed. I didn't miss the problems I expected to miss, lol. I missed some of the easier ones.I did have to give up a workout to cram, though. I don't like cramming!

Yesterday, it was sunny and gorgeous. I celebrated passing my math test with a 4 mile hike in a nearby recreational area. Today, it's back to weights.

Yesterday, two people asked me on two separate occasions if I've been working out. One gal asked me a bunch of in depth questions about my workout, and if I felt it helped me manage my stress levels at school. I told her ABSOLUTELY, and I urged her to start working out, too. That's my answer anytime someone starts telling me how much nursing school is stressing them out:)

Well, off to school. Whoohooo! Tomorrow I get to sleep in!

Big WOO HOO for nailing that math test, Lilac! I sweated over dosage and calc. problems the entire time until the last semester when I had a prof. who gave us 25-30 questions per week to do. The more I did them, the less intimidated I was, and it actually got to be almost "fun"! Of course, as with most things about nursing school, I have yet to have to do any kind of complex calculation at work. And the IV pumps do it for you, if need be. But good for you for passing the test and putting it behind you!

The hike sounds great! Have a super workout today! :)

Well, off to study for the math test I forgot we are having tomorrow.

Hey lilac

Re: the back issue

I don't see any warm up going on. It would be an idea to do 10mins on the row machine or crosstrainer (if your not already) you will find this benificial :)

Yesterday was weights, but I was too busy goofing off with my sons to post my workout. After two exams, I needed a break.

Leg Press 15x130 15x140
chest press 15x40 14x50
abs 12x30 ext 12
leg ext 15x50 10x70
oh db press/free 10x15 6x15
abs/free 12 ext 12
lat pulldown 15x40 10x50
flys 10x15 10x8
tris 10x12 10x12
bis 10x12 10x12 left 10x8 right 10x2

Ran into some problem with the biceps.I couldn't get past 8 reps on my bad shoulder arm. I rested for thirty seconds, then went back and did the rest.Next time, I guess I'll have to start with that arm.Don't want to be lopsided:)

Emmie: We take math test every semester, also (whoohoo! only one more to go!). I have a dosage calc book, and I usually do some of the problems a week before the test, but this time I forgot about it. When I did practice the problems, there weren't that many IV practice problems in the book.Guess you answered my question why.

Aww, thanks Mike and Joed:)

Fatjoe: I've been working out regularly again for about a month now.I had really slacked off around Thanksgiving. Thanks for the exam congrats.

Spitfire: Sorry bout that-I do warm up for 10 minutes before I lift, I just don't post it.Thanks for catching that.

Well, found out why I felt so blah last week. I got sick Saturday afternoon. It hit like an Amtrak train and was over in about twelve hours. Thank God I didn't have to miss clinicals and do a case study to make up for it (about 20 hours of work for five missed clinical hours).

No workout today. I stayed up until midnightish doing prep work for today's clinical. Tonight I'm playing catch up. I'm running on energy drinks, due to getting a whopping two hours sleep last night.

Sometimes I think nursing school is going to kill me before I graduate;)

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter. At least I was well in time to eat chocolate, heehee.

Weight day. Weights are hard when you're tired. I got up at four this morning, after waking up all last night because I was afraid I wouldn't hear my alarm go off and be late for clinicals. It seems to be a common preoccupation with nursing students, I learned today. One gal said she woke up with a start with her alarm clock in her hand, lol.

Oh, I took the lazy way out and did all machine stuff today. It was either machine stuff or nothing.

Warm up 10 minutes.

Leg press 15x130 12x140

Chest press 15x40 8x50

abs 12 machine@30lbs 12 extensions

leg extension 15x50 12x70

low row 15x40 8x50

abs machine@30lbs 10 extensions 10

leg curl 15x35 10x40

db oh press 15x10 6x15

abs crunches 12 extensions 12

lat pulldown 15x40 11x50

db flys 15x8 12x10

bis 12x30 12x30 tried to go up in weight. couldn't even lift the first one, haha. went back to 30lb

Have a great evening everyone. It's beautiful here. The sun is finally shining.

Just popping in for a nanosecond. I'm swamped with care plan stuff and can't work out because I'm behind right now-GRRR!

Lol, Hib! My sibs woke my youngest bro up one time at 2 am and told him he was late to school. He got dressed and halfway to school before he realized it wasn't as light as it usually was in the morning;)

Spitfire: My abs gave out before I did. I had ab DOMS the next day;) Glad to hear it's nice there. It's snowing like crazy here-grrr!

Have a good weekend everyone

Went for a nice long hike Friday. The woods were a bit wet, so I got lots of conditioning climbing over debris at the side of the trail to get past the water.I also planted a strawberry bed and worked in the yard.Got my first blister of the season:)

This is my last week of school for this semester. I don't have much time to work out this week, due to having to study for two finals, plus I'm team leading this week for clinicals. But then, I get a break for a couple of weeks-whoohooo!

Well, it's time to get ready to go to the hospital and make assignments.

Have a great day, everyone:)
