How much does an Olympic Bar weight?
I've heard anything from 30-45 pounds from folks at the gym. So what is it?

If its a quality bar, 20 kilos or 44 lbs, if its one of the cheap chinese imports, anywhere from 35-45, usually closer to 35.

The US-made bar I got from Jesup Gym through their ebay ad weighs 20kilos, just as it should.
Mine weigh in at 44.05 (its a 20kg bar)
Give this man a cigar
We round the weight up in the U.S.

The bottom line is this: A TRUE Olympic bar weighs 44lbs/20kg. But there are hundreds of other bars that have different weights.
I have:
6' bar-10lbs
7' One inch bar-20lbs
Oly Bar-44lbs (or 45, as we round up here)
EZ-curl bar-5lbs
Ez-Curl bar-10lbs
Tricep/HG bar-5#
Adj. DBs-3.5lbs
Smith machine bar with Oly ends- 20#
And that's just mine. There hundresd of variations, but again, a TRUE Oly bar is always going to be 44lbs/20kg.

Since there are already multiple threads about bar weights, the real question is why did someone feel the need to resurrect this thread that's almost 5 years old?

That's a great point! Geez....maybe he just wanted to prove he knew the answer.

Men's bar
A men's Olympic bar is a chrome-vanadium steel bar that is 2.2 m (7.3 ft) long and weighs 20 kg (44.1 lbs). The outer ends are 50 mm in diameter, while the grip section is 28 mm.

Be careful when buying an olympic bar. They are supposed to be 45 pounds, but they are very often off by 5-10 pounds. Make sure you weigh it at the store. I know someone who bought one at Dick's sporting goods and ended finding it to weigh 35 pounds!

I bought the 300# set for $99(Christmas sale) at sports authority. Measured my bar the other day and came out to 34 pounds. Annoying , yes. I will shop for a real bar after I pickup a bench.

Does anyone know what a standard EZ curl bar weighs? Is it 15 or 25?

Does anyone know what a standard EZ curl bar weighs? Is it 15 or 25?Neither. There's no regulation weight. You have to weigh the bar yourself, that's the only way you'll know.

As I stated before, the cheap imported bars have cast metal sleeves of very brittle low grade metal while a quality bar has machined steel sleeves and solid roll or needle bearings. The bar itself is obviously of lower grade steel than a quality bar.

C man, when you said

you means that coud happen with standard oly bars too, right?
but yeah, really i think most of the gyms owners or lifters don't check their bars weight. Most will just assume they are as stated.
and i agree with someone who wrote:" an olympic bar it's a standard 7 foot bar, so it weighs 45 pounds and can handl up to 1500 pounds (i think a more accurate weght is 43 pounds, but using 45 makes the math easier on us muscle-heads)." what do you think about?

My gym got new bars that feel thicker and heavier but are more solid. I hope they are the real 45lb ones and not 55lbs. The old ones felt lighter

The rogue bar I have is a 20kg bar. After weighing it on my bathroom scale it's about 44lbs, give or take a few fractional pounds.

My current gym has 20kg olympic bars but the previous one I went to had 25kg bars. From what I can understand it changes due to the sleeves.
The best thing you can do if your curious about the weight of the bar you are using is ask the staff at the gym you use or if its your own bar simply weigh it then you know for sure!
Happy lifting muscle heads!!

If you buy your barbells from the Mars Corporation then they get smaller and smaller every year.
My understanding is that most of them are 45 lbs, some are 50.
