okay, so I was having this discussion with my BF and thought I'd pose it here as well.

My boyfriends Japanese, and I have grown accustomed to the asian lifestyle/ways of eating/etc/... So I love to have rice at meals! I have lowered the amount to 1/2 cup-1 cup only at dinner a few times a week.

Anyways, I was telling him that we should try to lower our carbs and take more carbs in from vegetables and oatmeal/protein AM mix. He said, "well why can't we just add scoops of protein powder to the rice water so the rice soaks up the protein powder."

This left me speechless, would that work? What do you guys think? It's a creative way to add protein, but I am curious as to what you guys think. Does the protein powder denature if you were to cook it at high temp like that? I eat little rice now as it is, as I said...but I thought that it was a creative ploy from my bf to get us to keep eating rice.

Anywho, let me know what you guys think!

id say just stick some real meat in w/ the rice, like chicken or lean beef strips....i dunno if the powder is gonna taste that great lol

Gackkkkk ! What the heck is he thinking? I mean you could try making it, but chocolate, strawberry, whatever flavored rice????? Gives me the willies.

How is the boyfriend with genmai? A lot of Japanese refuse to eat it. If you could go 100% genmai, that would help your nutrition a lot.

Since I'm doing the cooking in my house, I just go 100% genmai. The boyfriend says "you should mix genmai & white rice 50/50". I tell him that "I'll take it under consideration."

So far, I've elected to non-action his request :-)

Actually I love rice deserts...

Rice pudding is awesome, and I used to love to make my own little rice treat by taking leftover white rice and mixing it with milk, sugar and cinnamon.

Sometimes I would use chocolate milk...

So, I don't see why you couldn't add a bit of milk and some protein powder to your rice after you cook it. That way you won't risk the powder cooking and getting nasty, and you won't ruin a whole batch of rice. You could just get a small bowl and try it.

Eat it hot or cold... it's great! You can use Vanilla protein and add some raisins to make rice pudding...

You could use vanilla powder and bananas, strawberry powder with strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc...

Chocolate powder would be great on cold rice, and then put in a blender and frozen... make like rice-cream... LOL

Get creative with it! I think it's a great idea!

Thanks nacer! I figured he had some logic in there somewhere...afterwards would definitely be better!

Appreciate the input..If I do try it( I am trying to lower carbs now to lose fat) I'll let you know how it goes!
