Should i be taking some kind of a weight gainer shake while bulking? I'm completely clueless about these, fill me in.

Weight gainers are nothing more than powdered junk food. Don't be fooled by the name.
Instead, get your calories from wholesome foods such as, beef, eggs, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, raw nuts, flax/olive oil etc.
If you want to use a shake, the read this.

unless, you had stuffed yourself until you just cannot eat anymore and still had not reached your target caloric intake yet, weight-gainer shakes are of not much use.

yes, if you cannot EAT enough calories or if you cannot EAT at a certain time of the day, liquid calories will keep you on track.
if you CAN eat enough calories and meals, save your money.

weight gainers make for an excellent post workout shake. The sugar in them is very beneficial post workout.
