View Full Version : I'm falling apart at 30!!!!

I was wondering if any of you girls have experienced this:
I used to make my Sunday cardio session a 3-mile run at a park and I truly enjoyed it because it did break the monotony of being confined at the gym.
Anyway, I don't remember why I stopped running, but a couple of months ago I tried to go again and noticed that the next day my hip was killing me, and not only that, I was favoring that side when I walked and I had a slight limp. I was sore for a couple of days, and tried running again the following week on the treadmill.....no luck, I could feel it again and it was definitely the running that did it. And this is probably why I stopped running in the first place....I've also developed a slight case of senility as well, hence the reason I cannot remember why I stopped running a couple of months ago.
Anyway, yes, I'm chicken to go to the doctor.....I'm scared he's going to say something scandalous, so I'm wondering if anybody else has had that happen to them.
I have NEVER had medical issues, I've always been very healthy. But it's like a rain dance, you fly out of your 20's only to find that the warranty has expired on your body and the problems have just now decided to show themselves.

I think it's just going to take some time easing back into your cardio. Don't overextend yourself. Small progress daily is what it's all about. Oh, and I just turned 33 with no aches and pains.
I steer clear from doctors as much as possible too. They always see the dark side, never see anything positive. In fact, I gave up nursing for that reason. It was just so damn depressing and negative. A pill here, a shot here. No one was interested in prevention.
You'll be just fine....take it slowly. ;)

And SuperBBGirl.....I'm impressed!!!!
I've continued to do cardio, however, I don't run because of that problem. I've always known that running was hard on the skeletal system, however, it's never been a problem until now. Thankfully, I have other cardio alternatives that aren't painful to me. I guess it just bothers me that I can't do something that I've done my entire life.
And like you said, MsFit, I don't like going to the doctor. I'm one of those that has to be on her death bed to finally agree to go to one because I can't imagine all that medicine being good for you either. I'll walk in there with a sore hip and walk out with a hip replacement and maybe even a hysterectomy while they're in there. It must have taken a lot of guts to leave your career like that, that's admirable.
The upside is, that I can't run, but I've got other alternatives!!!

Hey Lizzee!! Good to hear from you ...even if it is whining...LOL. :D
Seriously......after years of abuse, it sounds like your hips are saying "No More!" It might be just a temporary thing, but why risk it. As you stated, there are plenty of other forms of cardio to get that heart rate up and running.
As far as the senility....join the group. :)
And if you think the warranty expired at 30...wait till you get to be my age. :D

no no no no no! you're not over, baby! find a different cardio thang, there are plenty of options. I can't run any more, knees have gone. Don't matter, do bike, elliptical, rowing ... walk on the treadmill, use the inclines. My dad is my hero. He couldn't run any more (ankles), he biked. At the age of 60, he took up judo. He just turned 65, he got his black belt. He lifts weights. he's working on touching his toes without bending his knees ... some day. so your body is 'adapting' to age, adapt with it! it's going to be there for you for a good few years yet.

LOL -- I was thinking -- 30??? -- :D!
I was sure that happened at 40!
Sounds like you may have strained something starting out again - just give it time to heal & you may be able to run again. If not, there are much less jarring forms of cardio. I love doing interval training on the elliptical trainer and I also love going outdoors and riding my road bike.
Don't worry about the falling apart thing -- that's just crap our heads get filled with from magazines, television, etc. -- things keep getting better with age! :D

Well, I'll definitely be staying away from the running.....that's okay, I took a spin class this morning that KICKED MY BUTT!!
And the best part was she played Prince and I LOVE PRINCE, I was jamming out whether I was hovering or in the saddle.
Little trivia:
Who said they liked Prince "more than life itself?" name that actor and movie for a rich and delicious calorie-free tiramisu (just kidding, if there were such a thing I'd be off this computer and stuffing my face).
Anyway, the point is that, as long as I can do my cardio kickboxing class and my spinning classes I'm O.K. because they help in breaking up the monotony of the cardio machines.

Hey, I'm 18 and am like a dismembered doll.
I have more aches, pains and injuries than my 84 year old gramma.
BUT I'm smartening up- eating better, thanks to people such as MsFit and Emma-Leigh

That was Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. I claim my calorie-free tiramisu.
