Good morning Tiffany! Happy FRIDAY!! Nice leg workout.
Just out of curiosity, why are you doing back and front squats? Do you find they work the legs differently?
'cuz Layne does 'em? (guessing)
They also hit the front quad differently.
Sum bish Tiffany, all that hard work and no comments on the pain??
Very nice job on the SLDL's!
'squit isn't the only one who can help you with posing.;)

Morning, Tiffany! Great job on the workout! :)
I hope you have a fantastic weekend! We'll be in your neck of the woods as Brittany gets her dress fitted and drags me from store to store to store shopping for wedding "essentials." :D
Is it raining there?

Good morning Tiffany! Happy FRIDAY!! Nice leg workout.
Just out of curiosity, why are you doing back and front squats? Do you find they work the legs differently?
I find front squats hit the quads, specifically the Vastus Medialis, more so than back squats. It also takes a lot holding up the weight so my shoulders and chest get used too.
'cuz Layne does 'em? (guessing)

Sum bish Tiffany, all that hard work and no comments on the pain??
Weight training is my poison of choice:p. I think I'm learning to enjoy the aches and pains of training. I recover very well even though I get ~5 hrs of sleep.
I'm glad I took your advice and increased protein.
Very nice job on the SLDL's!
The heart rate was 90% of max after these. The extra weight was brutal but fun.
'squit isn't the only one who can help you with posing.;)
I know you're willing but I don't want to burden you while you're dieting.
Props for doing front squats Tiffany, happy Friday!
Thank you Ed.

That sounds like a lot of fun:p.

It's raining now but is supposed to stop around noon. Tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny 61 degrees. Have a safe trip!

How can you possibly do this after all those squats? I'd fall over on the first lunge! :D

I'm a goof ball too Penney. After I got my 6th rep on CGBP, I jumped up and pumped my fists in the air. I think I woke up the cardio bunnies;).
We should have an O35 travel training team.
LMAO at the cardio bunny wake up call! http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/slanda/thxxxxxxx.gif

Hey Tiffany! This caught my attention... this is what I need to focus on to keep knee trouble away. My kneecaps want to ride outward (well the one that I didnt have fixed with surgery), so I really need to keep the VMO strong. I have been thinking about adding front squats... time to give them a shot! ;)
Great leg work! Wow... I would sure work out with you too! Texas is a fair ways off, but I am still working that Huntsville thing! :D

I actually like front squats better than the traditional back squats. I like what the exercise has done for my teardop and my knees. I played sports in high school and damaged my left knee but have no problems now. Losing weight certainly helped but I've gained a lot strength as well.
I can also go deeper on the front squats. The only drawback would be the strain on the front delts and collarbone. After my first few workouts, I had fresh bruises on my delts. I've since found a comfortable spot and have been rocking out reps. Try them out and let me know how it goes.

I prefer Corona or a top shelf Margarita...yum. I used to be able to hold my own with alcohol. Now, I'm a little tipsy after one drink thus making me a cheap date;). I will have to try the India Pale Ale after my weight loss contest.

Good morning all and happy Monday.
Today is cardio only. I walked for 32 mins this morning on the treadmill. I'm trying to burn 300-350 ea. cardio session so my numbers will be a little odd from time to time.
I am thinking of going the high reps (~15 reps) route to switch things up a bit. I like what I'm doing now but I think it's time for a change to keep my body guessing. I'll be doing a little research tonight to figure out what I want to do. IF I change my routine, I will post it for feedback.
I have lost 5.6 lbs and 2.5" from my waist over the last four weeks. I am very pleased with the loss in the waist area because of the health risks associated with excess abdominal fat. I also lost in my chest:(, shoulders and hips.
I took pics last night as part of the online contest I entered in Jan. I will wait and post those after I take my eight weeks pics. I'm going for the dramatic effect;).
Have a fantastic day!

Good morning everyone!
I am working on about four hours of sleep today. After much tossing and turning, I got up at 3:00:eek:. Sleep was not happening for me. I took advantage of the early rising and did cardio before weight training.
I threw in a few PRs too;).
Cardio/Arms
Cardio
40 min incline walk
SUPERSET 1:
BB Curl
8x50, 6x55, 7x55, 3.5x60 PR
CGBP
10x95, 6x115, 3x120 PR, 14x95
SUPERSET 2:
BB Skullcrusher
6x60, 5x60, 5x55
60 is a PR but form was off. I had to use an EZ bar and each rep felt awkward. I lowered the weight and switched to a straight bar.
Inc curl
2x6x22.5, 8x22.5 PR
Increased weight and reps.
V bar pushdown
50x17.5
Have a great day!

On a whim I decided to try an unassisted chin as my first exercise. I was able to go up fairly easy and it shocked me. I tried another one but couldn't pull myself all the way up. The rep was a little ragged but I will take it. I was so pumped after this! Damn, I'm strong:p:).
Asst Chins
2@25lbs, 1@25lbs, 4@40lbs, 3@40lbs
I was too aggressive after the bw chins.
BB Rows
2x8x95, 12x85, 15x65, 20x45
Lowered weight to get more reps and concentrate on form.
HS Iso Lateral Low Row
Plates only ea side
20x25, 15x45, 12x0, 8x70, 6x75, 20x45
WG Pulldowns
8x100, 12x90, one set no rest: (12x85, 8x70, 12x55, 25x40), 4x120
Wtd Hypers
4x10x45, 12x25
Cardio
5 min elliptical
20 min stepmill
5 min bicycle
Have a great day all and enjoy the Super Bowl!
OMG!!!!!! Congrats on the unassisted chin Tiffany. You so rock :D I knew you could do it, the signs have been there for some time.
I have lost 5.6 lbs and 2.5" from my waist over the last four weeks. I am very pleased with the loss in the waist area because of the health risks associated with excess abdominal fat. I also lost in my chest, shoulders and hips.
Congratulations are in order for the 2.5" lost in the waist, and the 5.6 lbs. Yay! :D
Since our breasts are basically fatty tissue, when you lose fat, you lose some in the boobies! To some, it's good, to others, frustrating ... but I'd rather be lean than have big boobies anyway.
Layne's diet is definitely working for you. After I cut some more, I am going to look at Layne's diet again. Maybe I'll get strong again!
You rock Tiffany! :D

Fat burners can definately affect sleep... when I tried Lipo 6, i had to take it before 2 PM! LOL
Sure fire way to sleep I have found (I have issues myself)... take melotonin about an hour before you go to bed followed by cottage cheese (I mix various things in it, vanilla and splenda if I am going lowcal), then ZMA right before going to bed. Lights out! :)
Great work Tiffany! I am seeing a 'V' in your new avi! Cool! :D

Thanks Mike. I'm keeping my calories kind of high and haven't had a drop in strength. I'm loving it now.
4 hours of sleep, I would be dead. Of course you are barely over 35 lol so you can get away with it.
LOL. I was happy that I didn't have meetings today. I was in a fog for a while.
Congrats on all the PR's! Let's see, lack of sleep = Cardio + PR's. I'm pretty sure that equation never works for me. Another testament of your overall strength. ;)
Thanks Ty. I'm not sure what's going on with me but I will take it. It seems like once I get to the gym, I'm focused and energized.

You'll get there Penney. Work on small increases each week.
I tweaked Layne's diet and increased good fats. So I'm eating high protein, moderate fats and low carbs. My macros average 48/33/19 and it's working.

I love my Lipo6, Tiffany. :) I only take it on lifting days now -- so four days a week and I only have one. It gives me quite a buzz.
I was a total druggie during contest prep -- I had one Lipo6 when I woke up, one at 11:00 and one at 2:00. Buzz, buzz, buzz.
Fat burners aren't so good for your adrenals, so I wouldn't get too hooked on them and definitely cycle them (says the druggie).

The guys at Scivation recommend 8-12wks on and a few weeks off. I'm starting off with a very low dosage and will shorten my cycle. I was thinking 2-4 weeks on, 1-2 off and repeat.
How did you cycle your weeks?

I think overall you should only use them for about 12 to 16 weeks (if at all) and only do that a couple of times a year.
I was told not to use them unless I absolutely felt like I needed them, but I absolutely feel like I need one before I lift and do afternoon cardio after having done pre-breakfast cardio earlier. :D :p
I really don't know that they help me burn fat that much anyway. I think of them more as an energy booster.

Good morning everyone!
I am working on about four hours of sleep today. After much tossing and turning, I got up at 3:00:eek:. Sleep was not happening for me. I took advantage of the early rising and did cardio before weight training.
I threw in a few PRs too;).
Cardio/Arms
Cardio
40 min incline walk
SUPERSET 1:
BB Curl
8x50, 6x55, 7x55, 3.5x60 PR
CGBP
10x95, 6x115, 3x120 PR, 14x95
SUPERSET 2:
BB Skullcrusher
6x60, 5x60, 5x55
60 is a PR but form was off. I had to use an EZ bar and each rep felt awkward. I lowered the weight and switched to a straight bar.
Inc curl
2x6x22.5, 8x22.5 PR
Increased weight and reps.
V bar pushdown
50x17.5
Have a great day!

Ya know, I've found that my blood pressure doesn't get elevated much by caffeine. I have naturally high blood pressure (due to my kinky circulatory system - darn genes - 140/80 in the AM), but caffeine never really seems to affect it. My doctor never seems to believe that, but that's OK, I like defying medical reasoning. :)

Hi Tiffany! I've found that low carbs tend to only affect me after a few days (mostly because of all the stored glycogen in the muscles / liver).

Dialene 4 is my very first fat burner:p:). I thought it was important for me to consistent with nutrition before I introduced a fat burner.
I'm taking it twice a day, before breakfast and six hours later, per instructions. I'm using a very low dosage to assess tolerance. The niacin flush is pretty cool.
I've only been taking it since Tuesday. So far, I haven't experienced the afternoon energy drop. I also have a feeling of calmness. I am not sure if this is due to the fat burner or my balanced emotions (no PMS). One side effect is increased thirst possibly due to the cayenne pepper and/or caffeine.
I LOVE strawberries (and so does my family - we eat them for dessert after dinner all the time).
Strawberries are  and versatile. I like strawberries and angel food cake for dessert.

I didn't have a workout to fuel and I wanted to see how I'd feel. My glycogen stores were full so I was able to run for quite a while. I didn't get very hungry either. I am not advocating low cals, this was more of an experiment.

Good morning and happy Friday!
Since I had not taken a day off in three weeks, I rested yesterday. I felt great this morning and worked legs.
Legs/Cardio
Preworkout cardio: 36 min walk, no incline 3.6-4.2 speed
I don't have time to do cardio after weights during the week so I got up earlier to do cardio.
I did high rep work to change things up a bit.
Seated Leg Press
25x150, 20x210, 15x230, 15x250, 20x270
Smith Lunges
Plate wt only:
12x100, 2x10x120, 15x70
I wanted to do Front Squats but both racks were taken by people actually squatting:p. I could have done them on the Smith but went with lunges instead.
SS Leg Ext/Leg Curl
Leg Ext
15x130, 12x130, 10x135
Lying Leg Curl
15x80, 12x85, 9x90
I was drenched in sweat after this workout. I did 2 unassisted chins too;).
Have a wonderful day everyone!

Ha,ha -- I told Brian I was trying to think of something I really liked to give up for Lent. It was difficult because I've already given up all my food goodies and wine. He said I absolutely could not give up sex. :D
Maybe I should give up cardio. I like cardio. Really. :p
Oh -- and my legs are definitely tightening up from the high reps. I think it's the only thing that's ever made them do that so quickly. Too bad I much prefer lower reps and heavy. :p

Hiya MaryAnne. Dialene 4 is the first fat burner I've tried. I like the niacin flush that occurs about 20 mins after taking it. I seem to get a nice energy boost without the crash effect.

Hi Ty! I would like to do a couple 5ks to test myself. My long term goal is step up on stage....okay now I've said it:p.
Good morning Tiffany! Very cool on both goals. :) 5K's are fun - best with a full support team to catch you at the end. ;) Stage goal is sooo cool - nice to see you admit it!

Layne has done a lot for natural bodybuilding and is definately going places.
Wow, Tiffany. You are really hitting it hard. Keep it up.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Sorry I haven't been keeping up. Do you always do all incline for chest? You really hit it hard!
No problem Bob!
I recently changed to all incline chest work. I want to develop the upper part of my chest. Per Brian, Fiend_73, this will lead to better chest development for me. I hope I have it right Brian:p.
Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I am changing up the sets and reps on my workout. Something a bit different. It's kind of a modified Ripptoes type workout. Hopefully it will render some good results.

You are a tough lady!!
I've been a bad boy lately, away from journal too much....so I might not be making any sense. Like half talking to myself...sort of.
Our body not always can show the progress it is making, but it is always trying to adapt and doing its best and actually making progress in a different way.
Rebuilding/reparing our connective tissues, recharging CNS and giving a needed rest to internal organs, which it couldn't do while we are making constant progress. Muscle is the one which recover first and fast, other parts always are lagging behind, it makes sense, a racing car pulls into pit TO WIN, it has to.
Well, always easier to say this to others....haha.
Hope I haven't over stepped. Have a nice day m'lady!! http://www.angelfire.com/nb/kazuo/img/heart10_twin.gif

No likey, but did as I was told. :p I try to alternate periods of more cardio (cutting time) with periods of less cardio (3 X 30 or so a week). I suppose I sort of do HIIT at times because I use the random setting on the stairmaster. The crazy thing is very randon, however, as it switches intensity every 10 seconds. I really sweat a lot when it's doing that.

Now, I've heard that HIIT is muscle-sparing - I have read many articles stating the differences between sprinters and marathoners. Marathoners, whose cardio is very high-intensity w short bursts of even higher intensity, are muscle-bound, while long-term endurance athletes are often skinny-fat.

Yes, that's the way to go :)
HIIT is also stressful only the CNS so we have to be smart about it.
Tiffany, what is CNS? :o (haha watch it be a simple, obvious answer) ;)
I worked legs at home today.
DB ATG Squats
10x10x40
DB SLDL
5x10x40
90 secs rest between sets.
cardio
pre 20 min walk
post 26 min walk
Have a great Sunday!
Nice at-home wo Tiffany! :D

You're gonna kill me.
I was all excited to see what my bud has been up to, working hard, dieting, cardio, all that jazz.
And then I read you didn't train calves since last freakin' year!
Seriously, I had to go someplace else for a minute.:p You must train calves!!! Squatting is not enough!
Elvis would have had huge calves due to his bathroom issues if squatting built calves!
I sentence you to no less then THREE calf workouts this week!
But I still luv ya!;) :)

:o...but I hate working them...such a waste of time IMO. My calves measure 15"...genetics FTW!

I agree -- genetics!! I hate training mine. I trained them hard and heavy for years -- and still no ball muscle. If I get extra lean, I get a line of separation down the side. That's it. It's like my calve muscles are one long solid muscle that are shaped the way they're shaped and there's not a damn thing I can do about it. :p
Happy, happy Monday!

Good morning, Tiffany!
OK, I'm just a freakin' weirdo. I used to stand around doing calf raises all the time while in line at the bank, cafeteria, wherever. (Of course, I need to be able to stand on my tip-toes to reach the top shelf at the grocery store, too.) ;) Strong calves can help prevent a lot of running injuries!!

How often do you train calves now? I get so dang bored training them...go figure.
I've been genetically blessed with decent calves. I know they can be better and I need to work them more often.
Happy, happy Monday!

I slept in this morning because I was tired and needed it. My body is also sore from Sat/Sun workouts.
I'm not feeling 100% but it's not physical. I think I'm allowing stress to get to me and it's affecting my mood. I handle life's ups and downs well and have a very blessed life. Lately, I've been very emotional which is out of character for me. I find comfort in logic but this is pure emotion and I don't know what to make of it:confused:. My nutrition is great but I have to force myself to finish my meals.
Perhaps I need a cleansing cry to let whatever this is out (no PMS). I'm sorry to be a downer today, but I won't be down long!

Sometimes emotions come up, seemingly for no reason. Logic is a nice big comfortable security blanket, but there are times we need to be in touch with our emotions. Listen to them! :)

I had a very good run tonight on the treadmill. I ran 3.5 miles in 33 mins which is fast for me. The endorphins really helped:D. I did think about getting a pizza on the way home but the treadmill was much better:p.
I took a back picture tonight to help gauge progress. The following pictures are almost a month a part. The first one was taken tonight and the second one was taken on 1/21. I think I'm a little leaner but it could be the lighting.

Dunno why, but even though I used to be a runner, I now hate the treadmill - and would never have the patience to do 33 mins.
Yet it's probably the best indoor cardio there is - so good job!
