It's supposed to be 65 degrees here;). I'm not sure I would know how to dig out my car if it really snowed here...lol.

yes, it'll be warm here, too. my mom's in nebraska and said it's 2 degrees with negative 19 wind chill (she hates it, will probably come back next year, but i remind her that's all dead grass and trees here - really lovely ;) but must be better than digging ourselves out of snow)

Oh, honey! The first year we lived in Atlanta it snowed a foot over night! Shut the damn city down! We couldn't understand what the big deal was...

My winter coat wouldn't protect me in that kind of weather. I do not enjoy cold weather.

You're do very well Cari!

Hey Tiff! Enjoy the weather and the day!
Thanks Ty. I went out for lunch earlier and I'm getting the dog ready for a walk soon.

I've got relatives who live in Chicago. They are near retirement age and are planning to move down South to escape the harsh winters.

Good thing that it doesn't happen often though, cause I have a weakness for Italian Beef sandwiches and Chicago style pizza.

I'm odd, what can I say:).

Mike, I use a hr monitor that calculates cals burned. I try to burn at least 300 cals per cardio session and it took a little longer this morning. I also had to get ready for work:p.

I'd rather be at the gym because I'm limited in what I can do at home. I've got 2-12lbs, 2-25lbs and 2-40lbs dumbbells at home. The gym opens at 5:00 but I was up at 3:30 raring do go.

I was in a little funk this week so I stayed at home and did my own thing. I will be at the gym tomorrow morning:).

I was able to squeeze in a quick workout at home tonight. I've been thinking of doing upper/lower body splits for a change of pace. Here is what I did:

Upper body/Cardio

DB Flat Bench (on swiss ball)
10x25, 12x25, 8x40, 10x40, 12x40, 15x25

1-arm DB Row
2x12x40, 15x40

DB Shoulder Press
2x12x25, 1x40, 2x40 PR, 12x25

The 40's were tough to get in place and I didn't have back support.

OH extension
2x4x40, 6x40 PR

Alternating DB curl
2x4x40 sloppy PR, 12x25

Cardio: 20 min inc walk

I was pleased with the workout and felt a nice upper body pump.

Have a great night!

Love the new name! How much back support do you normally have for you shoulder presses. I ran into that prob recently when the chair I usually use broke and had to start using a chair with less. I never really realized how much I relied on the back rest... :(

2x12x25, 1x40, 2x40 PR, 12x25

The 40's were tough to get in place and I didn't have back support.

OH extension
2x4x40, 6x40 PR

Alternating DB curl
2x4x40 sloppy PR, 12x25

Cardio: 20 min inc walk

I was pleased with the workout and felt a nice upper body pump.

Have a great night!

Hi Tiffany! Thanks so much for putting that scripture in your signature, I'm going to write it down and put it in front of me at work and home.

now, i'm sure i'm just ignorant to it, please bare with me, it's an honest question i promise - but are you being for real about a supplement helping you lift heavier? i would really think we all lift heavier and heavier as the weeks pass becuase we're lifting and pushing our muscles to get stronger, and you do an especially good job of that. a part of me always wonders, "but what part of it is the fact that we're doing this in the first place?" that's gotta be most of it right? (or wrong?)

40lb db shoulder presses and without back support - which i didn't even know 'til recently we weren't really suppose to have - you are doing AWWWWWESOMMMMMMME i hope you're smiling big all the time!

Hi Tiffany! Thanks so much for putting that scripture in your signature, I'm going to write it down and put it in front of me at work and home.

I'm getting my spiritual life in order;). I have that scripture on my monitor at work and on my bathroom mirror. I also have my goals on my mirror too.

now, i'm sure i'm just ignorant to it, please bare with me, it's an honest question i promise - but are you being for real about a supplement helping you lift heavier?
I was joking with Brian about Celltech.

I'm not a huge supplement user; however, I think supps help when nutrition and training are in line. Some supp companies want consumers to believe they will make huge gains if they use 'X' product. The only supplements I use are Xtend, Multi, Vit C, Glucosamine and fish oil. I ditched the fat burner:p.

i would really think we all lift heavier and heavier as the weeks pass becuase we're lifting and pushing our muscles to get stronger, and you do an especially good job of that. a part of me always wonders, "but what part of it is the fact that we're doing this in the first place?" that's gotta be most of it right? (or wrong?)
You're right Cari, our muscles get stronger as we tax them. I also think proper nutrition and rest come into play as well.

I hope I answered your questions and if other would like to chime in, please do so.

I was a little pissed that I couldn't fully control the dumbbells:o. I use back support to get the dbs in position after kicking them up. I'm so clumsy I'd probably do something silly if I don't have the support:D.

That's weird. I would never take someone else's lunch. Not only is it wrong, but who would want to eat someone else's food? That would totally creep me out.

Many years ago, I kept a jar of chocolates in my cubicle. Each night, someone would come and eat them. Now, if they had been on my desk, that would be one thing. But they were inside my closed overhead bin, which was the closest I had to a secure space. I had a pretty good idea who the culprit was (my boss!), so I finally left a note on the jar addressing him by name and telling him to stop. He never said a word to me, nor I to him, but I didn't have any more problems with disappearing chocolates.

You know what? I would never have reported him except that he went to his boss and complained about my "attitude." This was after I'd made it clear I wasn't going to date him or have sex with him, etc. When his boss called me in and told me that I should work on improving the relationship, something in me snapped and that was when I showed him the emails.

The most damning was one in which he likened a part of my anatomy to a donut hole and described his, um, delight in having such a treat.

This was in the late 80's before there was the huge emphasis on avoiding sexual harrassment that exists now in offices, but even so....

DB ATG Squats
25xbw, 15x25s, 2x10x40s, 12x40s

DB SLDL

Thank you Brian:p, these really stretched my hamstrings and hurt in a good way. I felt the entire muscle working.

DB Standing Calves
20x25s, 25x25s

DB Seated Calves
25x25s, 30x25s

You hate cardio but you know it's good for ya!

Yes :o :) I've taken a different approach to it this year; instead of trying to increase speed to cover mileage, I'm now running an avg 11min or so pace. In other words, I'm actually keeping on the mill for 40-50 mins each session, which is easily 20 mins more than my old "3 miles at an 8min pace for 25 mins." The only thing I don't like is the slow pace takes a toll on my legs. I have yet to see (other than a couple of pounds, so far) if this is more effective for burning fat, but I suspect it is. Run any other 5Ks lately? :)

The longer sessions should help shed some fat. How many days are you doing cardio?

Run any other 5Ks lately? :)
I ran one in Sept and managed to shave off 3:00. I will be doing a Spring one so I need to hit the road instead of the treadmill.

TGIF Tiffany, what's up for the weekend?

My little town gets the overflow from Daytona Beach's Bike Week so we'll be looking at custom bikes down on mainstreet tomorrow...hmmmm, I wonder if that's what Nikongal is getting me for my birthday, lol.
That would be a cool gift Ed!

So that's what they're called!!! I do these every leg day. I cannot imagine trying them without my trainer around. That's a tough exercise to do alone.

Hey girl! I don't get around to reading journals very often but I thought I'd poke my head in tonight. It's great to see how well you are doing. It keeps new people like me inspired and pumped up. Thanks!
Wow, thanks for the kind words freedbirdmac! Please visit anytime! Do you have a journal?

Hi Tiffany, enjoyed a good hurt? http://www.angelfire.com/nb/kazuo/img/sm_hi.gif

Aw, I haven't done that for YEARS...my daughter doesn't surely want to see a tangled old man.

Hi Tiffany:)

I give you credit for training legs at home...I have a home gym (train at home) and how I wish for 'real' leg press machine.
I do my pressing with the smith...works good so far.

I've never done leg curls with a DBs...I outta try it just for curiosity :)

One thing I don't miss about training in the gym....The Crowds!
Better luck next time, I hope it is less crowed for you.

Keep up the great training!

I love how my body is responding to what I'm throwing at it. I am doing everything in my power to hold on to lean mass while losing fat. My energy is through the roof and my recovery is excellent. The dang scale has been stuff for three weeks but I am not going to panic and cut calories. I'm scheduled to measure on Monday so we'll see how many inches I've lost;).

Hiya Ed!

I was 1-2 reps short of failure on the bb press. I was the only person in the weight room Sunday morning and didn't have the strength left to roll the bar off of me. I was at failure with the dumbbells. My pecs are hurtin' and my back is very tender.

Nice workouts, Tiffany. Good job beating up the pecs! Dang, no muscle is coming off of you, for sure! :)

I am giving my body every reason to hang on to the muscle Jay. I put on a short sleeved shirt yesterday, since it was 68 degrees, and the sleeves were tight around my biceps and back. It was also looser around the middle, which is .

Don't panic about the scale, Tiffy. It can be annoying when the thing doesn't move, but there could be other things in play.

It's hard to believe that I'm building muscle:confused:. I measure and take pics tomorrow so I will have a better idea of what I'm losing. I won't panic.

You may also need a refeed if you've really been cutting cals.

When I was 270, I did the macros for a 250 lb endo.
When I got closer to 250, I switched it to the macros of a 235 lb endo. Coupled with all that cardio I WAS doing, 13 lbs in 13 days lost. From Feb 1. to the 13th.
But yes, lots of corner cutting, it was a desperate time. I always made sure to get the crazy amount of protein in. I cut cals mostly from fat and carbs.

Does this help?

Good morning and happy Tuesday:)!

This morning I took monthly measurements. Even though the scale and Omron showed no change, the tape measure and pics show promise.

Please note that I changed the way I measured my thighs and quads after January's measurements. I measure 10" above the knee for thighs and 5" above the knee for quads. These changes provide me with consistency.

Measurements

4-Jan 3-Feb 4-Mar
Neck 13.5 same same
Shoulders44 43.5 44.5
Chest 36.5 36 36
Lats 33.25 33 32.5
Waist
at navel 37 34.5 33

Abs 34 32 same
Hips 40.5 40 39.5
Thigh 24, 23.5 24.5, 23.5 23.5, 23.5
Quads 21.5, 20.5 22, 20.5 21, 20
Calves 15, 15.25 15, 15 14.75, 15

Arms: 13.5...forgot to measure:p.

Wt: 189.8 (-6.2):(...no chg in 3.5 wks
BF: no chg on Omron

Thoughts:
I am happy with what I've accomplished but I'm far from satisfied. After taking measurements and pics, I am more determined to reach my goals. Fat doesn't have a chance;).

I will be making changes to the diet and doing one more HIIT session a week.

Have a wonderful day and stay hungry!

Are you kidding?! You look great at that godawful time of the morning. Smiling no less! Beautiful smile.

Are you right handed? I ask because I am and when I flex, my left bicep looks better than my right. I thought I was just odd ;)

Wow! You have really dropped some inches. That is fantastic! And you've obviously grown some very nice muscles. Don't sweat the scale, or the Omron. The scale could be all about water and muscle, and the Omron, well it just lies. The more in shape I've gotten the worse the reading has become on mine. It now only shows my bf going up and lbm going down. Don't be fooled! The tape measure and your mirror are far better metrics.

p.s. No, I don't have a journal. Most of the time I don't even know what weight I am lifting as my trainer sets it all up. Kind of nice in that it's one aspect of this where I don't have to obsess and think. I can just enjoy whatever he had in store for me.

Ok, I don't feel so bad now. I rarely get to bed before midnight.
When I was in grad school I went to bed at midnight and got up at 5:00 to study, etc. I am cranky if I keep those hours now.

There are not enough hours in the day for us. What time do you normally get up?

My insomnia has gotten really bad, lately I've even resorted to taking sleeping pills at night if I'm not drowsy by 1:00 AM.

Glorious Refeed!

I forgot to mention that today is refeed day. I've been restricting carbs and in need of a refeed. I've also listened to my wise friends here.

So far I've had oats, a large red del apple and a huge honey wheat bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese. I haven't had a bagel in well over and year and it was DELICIOUS. I'm thankful that I don't have meetings this afternoon because I'm in carb heaven:).

I'm thinking about working legs tonight...

My eldest daugter is on Spring Break this week. Does that count?

The school I teach for goes year 'round. We did get 2 weeks over Christmas, though.

I am usually up by 6:30, sometimes earlier, rarely later.

Good Morning everyone!

Today is a rest day for me so I slept until 5:00 AM:). The extra hour was great and I didn't have to rush out of the house to get to work:cool:.

As many of you know I've been at a plateau weight-wise. I am losing inches while maintaining lean mass but I want more. I am not ready to drastically cut my cals or increase my cardio but something has to change.

I've decided to try Scivation's Carbohydrates Haters Anonymous (CHA) diet. I will also incorporate their Tri-phase training and cardio protocol.

I happened to run across an amazing opportunity to join Team Scivation. Members of TS will receive a 12 wk diet and training program along with unlimited access to Derek "Beast" Charlebois for the sum of $0:eek:. TS members will also be able to sample new products first.

Marc Lobliner and Derek have offered to help people of all shapes and sizes transform their physiques. I've been a happy Scivation customer but this offer makes me very loyal. Here is the link that explains Team Scivation and gives you information on how to sign up. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=106268001&page=5

I received a personalized plan last night and was like a kid on Christmas morning. I started the diet today and will start training on Saturday. I am forcing myself to rest so I can give 100% over the next 12 weeks.

Nutrition
~1800 cals (6 meals)
252g protein
90g f

Scivation diets use servings vs caloric intake. If I add the meals and supps to Fitday, I'm getting closer to 2000 cals.

Carbs will be ~3 cups of veggies a day. I am allowed one cheat/carb meal a week.

Supps
Multi, Vit C, Fish oil (3x a day), Xtend

Derek recommended I use Dialene 4 on my low energy days.

Training: (Phase 1)

The goal of Phase 1 is to increase the volume each week. In addition to adding sets each week you should always strive to lift a great load each workout.

Day 1: Back/Traps (2-5sets 6-10 reps)
Deadlifts
Pull-up
Bent over Row
BB Shrug
DB Shrug

I may substitute a different exercise for shrugs. I don't like direct trap work:o.

Day 2: Chest/Shoulders (2-5sets 6-10 reps)
Bench Press
Inc DB Press
Dips
Military or DB Press
DB Side Lateral

Day 3: Legs (2-5sets 6-10 reps)
Squats
Stiff Leg Deadlift
Leg Press or Lunges
Leg Ext
Leg Curl

Day 4: Arms/Calves (2-5sets 6-10 reps)
BB Curl
Close Grip Bench
Skull Crusher
Db Curl
Standing Calf Raise
Seated Calf Raise

I've asked Derek if I can do calves with legs.

Cardio:
30 min Low intensity before or after training
2 days HIIT with low intensity (30 mins total)

I will do abs on HIIT days.

I'm beyond excited and ready to shred Scivation style:D.

I understand the frustration of lean gains, but no or little scale loss. Cutting really is difficult, especially when you want to hang on to lean mass. Your goal is around 175 @ 15% bf, correct? :)

Good luck with it!

I think my body needs a change and I'm willing to try this for 12 weeks. If I'm not where I want to be then, I will try something else.

My goals are lofty but why not dream big. I would like to be 160 lbs at the end of this 12 week period and cut my bodyfat by 6%. I'm getting digital calipers so I will have a better estimate of my bodyfat.

Good luck with it!

Thanks, I'm ready for the challenge..

Wow! That sounds like a great program. I can see why you're so excited. Mental stimulation alone is worth tons!! And free! Cool!

The only thing that would bug me about that workout plan is doing chest and shoulders on the same day. That is really rough on the shoulders. I learned my lesson to do them on different days, but I already had shoulder issues.

If you're losing inches but the scale isn't changing, you've got to be lowering your bf. Just not enough to compensate for water and lean muscle. I bet this program shakes things up. Hope it doesn't drop off too fast ;)

I bought calipers too since the Omron started lying to me. It takes a lot of practice to be consistent. The good news is the numbers are always lower than the Omron!

I've been doing shoulders with chest and they do get trashed. Derek was accomodating and kept my split the same as before. I will watch how my body responds and change if necessary. Thanks for the tip.

I'm definitely leaner when I look at my pics but I do want the scale to move. I will check in with Derek weekly and provide measurements, bf% and pics so he can adjust my program.
