Hello ,everyone:
I am a femalebodybuilding fan come from China,I found the bbs by google.
I registered here today and surf the bbs for 4 hours, getting much knowledge about bodybuilding .
In China mainland ,the bodybuilding has not been accepted by mainstream culture absolutely, especially female bodybuilding,(because the bodybuilding IS NOT a olympic sport)people look at femalebodybuilder strangely.
I bigan my training 3 months ago,I like the feeling of blood-pumping and soreness of muscle, below is my training schedule:
Day 1: Chest + Bicep
Day 2: Leg + Abdomen
Day 3: Rest
Day 4: Tricep + Shoulder
Day 5: Back + Crus
Day 6: Aeorbic
Day 7: Rest
I train each body part with 3-4 movement, each movement 4-5 sets( including 1 set for warm up )and 8-10 rep per set(warm up set use 15-20 rep), using about my 70%-80% maximum power.
I only use protein powder drinking as supplement and eat 6 times a day.Every week I plus 2-5% weight in training.
I exercise very hard, sometime I even can not move the bodypart that just trained before when a set ends, but I am so eager to gain mass muscle,so I can endure the pain and the exaustness.
I show you some photo of mine, I need your advice, thank you very much!

Well, from the look of those photographs....you are doing very well indeed!
From what little I know about Chinese cultural viewpoints, being a female bodybuilder Would seem very strange. Despite the fact women were supposed to be equal in your country, culturally it is still very much a "Man's World". Family pressure to conform must be very hard as well.
So, this makes you a "maverick", a "rebel" and suspect.
It was not long ago, in America, female bodybuilders were looked up as very strange "fish" too. For a woman or young girl to go into a gym and lift weights was unheard of. A woman was supposed to be soft and feminine. Playing some sports is fine. Losing weight and gaining health from performing cardio exercises only is fine. Anything else that would build strength and empowerment was not.
Empowerment is not just for the guys. It is not just their territory. It is YOUR body and health not theirs. You are building selfconfidence and a better self image by doing this. That "rush" from lifting and seeing the results from your efforts is the best natural "drug" to keep your spirits high.
Let those others who frown upon what you are doing....go "jump in a lake".
Keep going, girl!

Welcome to the board.
:D
Your looking GREAT! I saw the other shot you posted in the 'sore muscles' thread in the training forum - your arms & shoulders look amazing.
You should be really pleased with your results after only 3 months of training! What you are doing is obviously working and you obviously enjoy it and that is what counts!
don't worry about the people looking at you, just growl back at them and scare them away! :D
Keep it up!

Thank you for your reply and your understanding of our action to devote ourself to bodybuilding,I believe the female-bodybuilding will be acceptted by majority chinese in the future just like that of USA now .I think I should show how healthy and happy a female-bodybuilder can be to people surrounding me ,then they can accept the sport .
Another important factor is NOT USE STEROID, because I am a medical student ,I know the harm of steriod.I was asked using steriod yes or not many many times by people that can not believe a woman can achieve mass muscle by weight-lifting and health food.So I must show a CLEAN figure to public.
Fortunately ,my family understand my decision and support my action,it gives me more motives and confidence.
Thank you for your encouragement,
Let's work harder!!!

There are so many female "lifting myths" women have to learn are not true. So many misconceptions and falsehoods that can keep a beginner from willing to go beyond using 3, 5 or 10lb weights (dumbbells). Or scare women away from even trying to lift.
A "Magick pill" or "drug" is another myth. Eating healthy foods and keeping to a good routine seems too easy to some minds. Too hard to keep by others. There must be a special "something" (so they think) that has made you look like this.
Knowledge, attitude, determination, patience and perserverence are the "Magick Pills". So simple and yet so hard.
By your decision, you have started your own "Long Walk" in becoming an example to women who might consider lifting for health and strength. Not easy being a pioneer and blazing the first trail for others to follow. So many hazards and roadblocks can happen. But it sounds like you have the Will to do this and the heart to keep going.
That your family is so supportive of your decision is GREAT!

I think it is the truth to achieve bodybuilding and many other thing such as study ,work and so on.
After doing bodybuilding ,I make some change :becoming more confident, body condition improving, studying more efficient(I am a medical college student)
You anlaysis the hardship to change the opinion of bodybuilding to other people ,I think I can accept the challage with the couragement given by all the friends including you.

wow, you look great and I'm so impressed that you are bodybuilding in China. where are you studying? I lived in Hubei for 2 years, volunteer English teacher. No gym, no weights, nothing! (It was a very small town) It's great that you are into bodybuilding. I can understand how hard it must be for you to stand out from the crowd. I know something about the pressures on young chinese women - to conform in every way, get married, be skinny, wear certain clothes, be 'soft, feminine, modest', pass all exams, strive for perfection in everything, etc. The pressures are very great. I used to feel for my students, very often they were quite miserable and depressed at the narrowness of their lives and longed to break free. But it's hard when you are in that society. But you must live in a big city where people are more open-minded now?
I'm living in Hong kong now and even though this is a 'modern' city, I still get strange looks at the gym when I lift weights. I'm the only woman in the free weights section and the men stare at me and i know they talk about me - in cantonese, which I can't understand. But what the hell. I love lifting and they're not going to stop me, plus I pay my gym dues, same as them!
Good on you - I'm so delighted to hear about a female chinese bodybuilder!

I find my right arm is a little stronger than the left one (maybe you all see from the picture of my front show )so I adjust my training plan ,I quit barbell curls and add dumbbell curls to train biceps seperately,do you agree to it ?
I need your advice!!!

Hey you look very good. Your glutes and legs are great!
Adding a slight more muscle especially from the waist down certainly would not look bad on you as long as you don't gain really any fat, but you can always lose the fat after you gain a little bit of more muscle which is really the only way to do it instead of trying to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
This is coming from a guy, take care.

Wow u r seriously my heroine. I totally know how u feel wen u say the popular chinese culture don't really accept female bodybuilders. They don't even really accept women working out hardcore. See I'm Chinese American, in my 20s and i'v been training for 2.5 years. I grew up in both Hong Kong and America, and i'm constantly considered big, manly, or even fat wenever i visit my family in Hong Kong. I get stares and it really bothers me sometimes. (i usually try not to return to asia that being one of the reasons)
I'm 5'5", 135 lbs (hopin to cut it down to 120lb) and around 20% bodyfat. Bust 35, Waist 27, Hips 36, and i honestly don't see how i'm "too big". Hell i can't even fit into an XL in asia and people think i'm crazy for working out everyday. I do an hour of cardio (elliptical, running, swimming) 5-6 days a week and 1/2 lifting 5-6 days a week. I do admit to poppin an ephedrine once in a while. :-D
You are truly an inspiration. It's so easy for me to get discouraged when i'm in Asia, i receive nothing but negative feedbacks about my fitness lifestyle.
YOU GO GIRL!
P.S. WHO has advice for me in trimmin down my midsection & my last 15 pounds! I'v almost given up hope! Low carbs, abwork, cardio, weights, good supplements i kno i kno i'm doing everything i can. HELP!!!!!!

Hi i just started participatin in the message boards, but i'v been buyin and surfin on BB.com for 2-3 years already. Readin ur posts and ChinamsMuscle's posts makes me so happy. I have a really hard time being a Chinese American in Hong Kong who lifts weights and workout everyday. I grew up in both Hong Kong and America and nowadays i only come back to HK to visit family in the holidays. Needless to say i'm in HK now because i'm in a serious mental rut.
The beauty standards asian women r expected to followed are absolutely ridiculous. No weightlifting, must b under 110lbs, girly, cute feminine etc. Diet scams r everywhere & peopel starve themselves to b 90lbs.
At 5'5" and 135 lbs, 36-27-36, I'm considered HUGE and i can't even fit into an XXL and people look at me weird on the streets and I'm constantly told i'm either too masculine, or downright overweight. People, even family & friends, think i'm strange and sometimes even crazy to workout everyday and lift weights.
When i'm back home in NY, i'm proud of my body and my achievements and my dedication, and I think although my measurements r not perfect, I'm happy with wut i'v achieved so far. Back in Asia, i get discouraged very easily. Your posts reminded me that i shoudl stay motivated.
I do an hour of cardio 5-6 days a week (run, swim, elliptical etc). and 30 min of lifting diff part of my body 5-6 days a week. My goal is to hit 120 lbs and a 15% bodyfat but my abdominal fat just won't go away. Any suggestions?
:-)

I like your signature:"I got grace in times of friction, I got truth in times of fiction I've got no time for the hype... suicide!? I'm not that type... I got no time for drug addiction, no time for smoke and booze too strong for a shortened life span, I've got no time to lose!"
Just for bodybuilding ,we train not only for a heathy body but also for a healthy life style,we exercise intensively ,endure the sore of muscle and eat according to a strict planned- schedule in order to build our body NOT TO DESTORY OUR BODY BY STEROID AND OTHER RUBBISH DRUG!
I like your humour of the T-shirt.

My favorite quote:
"Society believes that women are supposed to be skinny and frail to feel good about themselves. I consider it a challenge to help shake off that stereotype with my physique. Muscularity and femininity can coexist."

LOL.....I guess you forgot the "edit" button, Vephedra.
But really, it is very sad when a girl is pressured into fitting that kind of "norm". I remember when girls would starve themselves to look like the late 1960s model "Twiggy". To be skinny and "willowy" was the rage.
As to your measurements, Vephedra.....they look just fine to me! There are alot of women/girls that would love to have that figure. No need to "eat like a bird" to look like one. (misconception that, birds really do have to eat quite abit more than their weight to stay alive)
Nowadays, it is to look like Brittany Spears or some other popular singer. Never mind many of these work out to keep in that condition and lead a very hectic schedule as well. I really wonder if they have time to eat!

chinamsmuscle-
Welcome to bb.com. You're looking great for someone who has only been working out with weights for a short time. Very nice definition on your arms and shoulders.
I admire you fighting against the cultural sterotype placed on female bodybuilders. This must be difficult at times when so many people and their perceptions place pressure on you to conform.
Good luck with your training and reaching all of your goals.

Thank you for you encouragement,
because I am a student,I have not enough money to buy excessive supplement ,my diet is very simple.
I have regular breakfast, lunch and supper, but low oil ,high fiber and high protein(egg white 15/day),before training ,I eat some bread as carbohydrate supply ,after training ,I drink juice with whey protein powder.before sleep,I drink another juice with whey protein powder.
Luckly my appetite is well and absorption is well too,the diet schedule is useful to me.

You look awesome, Chinamsmuscle. You pose very confidently too.
I too admire your courage in a culture with unhealthy expectations for women. In western culture there seems to be a divide in the media at the moment where dancers, performers and actors are becoming fitter and healthier (look at many of the music videos now) but most of the models still look starved and unhealthy. I think things are slowly turning around when it comes to women with muscle too. It must be very difficult in China where this is far more imbalanced, especially when it comes to bodybuilding.

I agree Hulkman. Even though I'm right handed, my left bicep is slightly bigger than my right. The same is true with my quads too. It's hardly noticeable with my legs though so I don't really worry about it.
I have managed to balance things out a little by using cables and dumbells for arms. Lunges have helped even out my legs too.
