View Full Version : Breast Implants

Hello All,
I'm new here! I was checking out the posts about breast enhancement and thought I'd start a new one specifically on implants.
I have never thought about them until now. I'm pretty much all for being "natural," but have now seen that many of the top female bodybuilders appear to have implants.
I don't know if I'd get them, but now I'm thinking....I would be doing it for myself for sure (no men in my life right now)....but I'm on the fence. It would be awhile before I'd really do something like that - too expensive and I'm not sure about the safety of them.
If there are genetics involved here, the women on both my parents' sides are big breasted....my 70-yr-old mom is like a 40D (and they don't sag!!!) but I'm like a 38A-B-C (altho' at Victoria Secret they said I was like a 34C but wow - I couldn't breathe with that bra size!)....even when my mom was in her 20s, and when she weighed 98 lbs (she's 5'2"), she had huge natural breasts. She told me that after she had me her breasts got even bigger. But sadly I'm not seeing any babies in the near future....and I'm 38.....maybe I'm just a little insecure?!
It would be great to get feedback from those of you who have them or are thinking of them....and in what way do you feel that they (would) "enhance" your life and bodybuilding?
Thanks and looking forward to the discussion.

I have a pair of 475 gram anatomic cohesive gel silicone implants over the muscle. LOVE EM. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Since they are overs I have good cleavage and there was minimal post op pain. Bad thing is now I have to wear two sports bras when I do cardio.

Hey Babydoc,
I'm not familiar with the different kinds of implants, nor the methods - you said you have yours over the muscle? How is it better than other kinds of implants? Or I guess, how is it different than other implants?
You said you have to wear 2 sportsbras, so I guess you went substantially bigger? But no problem as far as chest pains, nor back pains from this?
Thanks a lot for posting!

Thanks y'all for posting....I might post a pic and see what you all think....I've seen the articles but would like to get more feedback and comments about this from members....
I can wear a 38 A, B, or C - depends on the bra. I could wear a 36 as well but it would be a bit tight....so I'm not really sure of my size. I know my cup size is probably not as big or round as I would like but it's acceptable, I guess...I'm just concerned that if I continue to work out a lot that I'll flatten out....plus I have fairly wide shoulders....I don't want to look like a dude!
Maybe it's an insecurity, being 38 (my age) and all....but overall I feel better for getting back into fitness. I've gotten a lot of compliments and I've only been back into it for a few months now....but the whole female bodybuilder and implants thing has stirred my curiousity. I like that healthy look - not the skinny waif look of young fashion models....
Anyway, hope to read more about your thoughts!

I was talking with a girl this past weekend who got some over her muscles and she said she's had nothing but problems with them. She got them over because she likes to work out, but she says she wants to get rid of them now.

I am having them done on oct. 6th, just for me, hubby don't care one way or another, i lost almost all my breast size by losing 30lbs in past 2 years, which i'm happy about, but i went from about 36b-c, to 34b, and very saggy, so i'm having a lift and implants, it is very expensive, but i don't care, the MD i'm using is very good, and did a nurse I work with and i've seen his work, and it looks great. I can't wait, I tried the implants on under a sports bra, and would do it tomorrow if I could, my main concern was how soon I could back into the gym, he said give him 3 weeks and I could go back to lifting 75% of what I do now, i'm taking 11 days off after the surgery, as i'm a nurse and do lifting, pushing and pulling, you can go to a site called I enhance, and see lots of case studies, I found one close to my size and look now, before and after.

I used to absolutely despise the thought of implants. I thought that anyone who had them was vain. Petty. Downright stupid. Self-esteem shouldn't come from chest size.
But that was when I actually had a chest. :D I've also lost most of my chest size with my bodyfat [which makes perfect sense, but I went from a 36C to not even really an A, I'm not kidding].
And actually, for the most part I'm fine with it. I'm very petite, I have absolutely no butt, my bodyfat is low, so it makes sense. I'd look top heavy with a huge pair of boobs. My chest size right now matches up with the shape of my body.
And if anything, working out has taught me a lot on how to respect my body. And it's given me tons & tons of self-esteem and confidence.
BUT! If I had the extra money, I think I'd do it. I wouldn't go all out huge, probably just get them bumped up to a "big" B. Or a small "C".
But then again, I have no idea if it'd be worth all the trouble. *shrugs*

My advice is that if you're set on getting them...get them a little bigger than what you think you want. 99% of girls I know that have them always say afterwards they wish they'd gone a little bit bigger. So, take that for what it's worth, too.

I just wanted to say that I also have implants and I love them!!!! I don't regret it one bit. I was a B cup and went to a D. My doctor placed them under the muscle and they are saline. The pain afterwards was not bad at all, the only thing that I hated was not being able to really lift weights for my upper body for a couple of months.

If you start lifting again with them under the muscle, wouldn't that create greater pressure on them, increasing the risk that they might rupture?
SuperBBGirl
08-26-2003, 01:18 PM
i have never heard they could rupture. the prob would be if go heavy then they could move out of place. unless competitve bber no need to go that heavy if have implants. or have over the muscle and eliminate that prob. i still do 25-40 db for flyes and presses but mostly light cuz i am not planning to comptet any more in the near futre.

Nothing left of my "naturals" now that I'm dieting...
Not willing to get implants YET!
But you never know! I have lots of friends with them and they all love them. I'm just not willing to put off training for the recovery time.
I think they look fantastic when done right and over muscle so there's no interference with training.

So true. I am such an obsessive/compulsive that I can't take more than 2 days off without feeling like a slug. As soon as I can overcome this little problem - I'll probably do it. :)
Any way - I think they look great if not too large. You know - more natural looking. Not those ENORMOUS globes some models have. Have you ever noticed that those darn things float?!?!?

Yes, it would. I have been doing my homework for about 5 yrs on implants because I want to get it done myself. What I have noticed since I have been researching is:
visual : implants on TOP of the muscle tend to sag after a few years. Some worse than others though. Would depend on the size of them. I saw an exotic dancer with huge breasts once, looked great until she took off her top, then they looked like balls at the end of long strings. Implants UNDER the muscle tend to look more natural, not having the harsh lines showing off the implant itself.
This came from DR. WASHINSKY in Waterloo Ontario Canada.
DOCTORS RULES AS TOLD TO ME WHEN ASKED WHAT WOULD THE DIF BE BETWEEN THE TWO: (This is a specialist in his field 30 yr career) IMPLANTS ON TOP OF THE MUSCLE: tend to heal faster because you don't have the surgury into the muscle. Less pain for most women, and you can work out the pecs all you like once healed because the skin will stretch no matter how big you want to become. But you can tell in most cases that there are implants, not natural breasts.
IMPLANTS BELOW THE MUSCLE: If you are going to bodybuild, build up your chest as far as you would like BEFORE the surgery. The pressure incured from building larger after could lead to undo pressure on the implant, and possibly break them. The healing time may last longer, and the pain is more extreme to most (but not all) women being as the muscle is also cut into. The implants may never sag (again really depends on the physical being themselves) because your chest muscles are always in use whenever you use your arms. You get a more natural cleavage line, and it is alot harder to tell that you have had implants.
*This is a "IN MOST CASES SCENARIO" Not a hard line definate in all cases.
Hope this helps.

Hmmm...
I never thought I'd actually say this but I'm now seriously considering having implants. It was only a week ago I was posting saying that I'd not have it done but I guess I was just trying to talk myself out of it.
I'm pretty small in the breast dept (14A or 36A) but have a fair amount of muscle development which makes my breasts look even smaller (guess we've all heard that one).
I'm leaning towards going over the muscle at around a big B or small C in size. I don't compete and don't plan to, therefore quite happy to be relatively lean but not cut so I'm hoping the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of over the muscle in my case.
Hopefully with a moderate increase in size, I won't need to worry too much about sagging (at least no more than natural).
My main concern is that I've been lactating for a while which my boyfriend loves. I'm a little concerned that implants may interfere with my milk production.
notice thread in here. just thought i'd give my 2 cents.
my girlfriend got implants last december, over the muscle. she was an A cup, paid $5k for big C's. well basically they are D's. she loves them, i love them. she is better shaped now and isn't complaing about having no boobs. but for those wanting them, i'll just tell you her and i did a lot of research and make sure you find a good doctor.
as far as pain. she was sore for about 4 days. but her friend who had them under the muscle was sore for about 10 days i think.

Doc said to make sure you are completly done lactating before having this surgery. Don't have the implants (incision) put in through the nipple if you plan on breast feeding more children after you get implants. It will sever quite a bit of the lactation glands preventing you from breastfeeding again. It is also said that this type of surgery can lead to less sensitive or knumb nipples because the nerve endings are also cut into. I heard from some women who have had it done under the crease of the breast, that it hasn't hindered their breast feeding. This is based on "on top of the muscle" procedures. You would need to do a bit more investigating on below the muscle implants when it comes to breastfeeding as this was not a question I asked.

My gf wants some too, but wants to wait until after we have kids because she says they'll sag and need to be redone. Do any of you know about this? I'd like them now so we could both enjoy them before we have kids. I'm sure she'd love to have them while we're on our honeymoon in the Carribean

Your Gf has the right idea. If done on top of the muscle, they will still sag after having a child. The skin gets stretched out from the milk production, and in alot of women, there is a huge cup difference between before and during lactating. My sis was one of the lucky ones, and never seemed to lose her perkiness, but both of us are almost identical in size, and build, yet I lost everything. My friend has above the muscle implants, she had two children after the procedure, and now they sag. She is around a C cup or a bit better. It may be a better idea to wait if you would like to continue to see your gf with perky breasts after all is said and done. It would fill out the stretched skin well. It sounds as though she also would like them to be perky after having children, so it might be better to wait to get it done if that is the case. It is quite expensive to do, and it costs just as much if not more the second time around (inflation)

I know this thread is old but i would like to get some insight and hopefully some info on surgical fixes.
Long story short I originally had a reduction done when i was 20. surgeon did such a crappy job 5 yrs later I had Implants put in to help assist in all the corrections that would have to be done. things were fine until after the last corrective surgery. I developed a deep pocket under my right arm pit. I am going in to have this corrected as well as another lift (result of the first) to stretch the skin downward, adjust the placement of the aerola.
My question is has anyone had this happen and how did your PS fix it? My PS has said they may need to put in a "mesh" wall to close the pocket. I also read on some of the other pages that ladies had the interior "cleavage" part of the muscle "losened" to relieve pushing to the outside.
I currently have saline with the option to go to silicone, mine are under. I do stuntwork on occasions and think the saline would still be best so they will be replacing and filling them to a slightly larger size as I have lost some breast tissue with my recent enthusiam for weight lifting.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should check out Justbreastimplants.com im 3 weeks out from my breast augmentation and this site was VERY helpful on deciding profiles, size. and no question about it go UNDER the muscle. Ever if you lift heavy or not. Implants that "sift" from lifting are because the "pockets" were not made correctly. Often women have to go back and get what we call pocket repairs because the plastic surgeon over dissected the pocket..making it too big.
There should be no REASON that you can not do all that you are now after having breast implants if the job is done well.

i will definately have to check that out. I am really hoping that this will be the last correction. I figured i would stay under. It is safer when doing stunts because the muscle will help protect the implant.

I got my Boobs done 2 years ago. Partial under the muscle, saline, 500 cc in each pec. I freaking love the clevage and protortion to my body. But I'm constantly paranoid about sagging. I always wear a regular under wire bra and sports bra over. Have any off you ladies free boobed it or use little support and still have perky girlz??

For anyone here who's had implants placed over the muscle, how much were you restricted from what you could do in the beginning (and for how long)? I'm booking consultations right now (planning to have surgery this summer), but in case I can't get short term disability from work (for a week or however long I'd need it), I just wanna get a rough idea of how painful or difficult the initial recovery would be from over-muscle implants.

yes, I have finally taken the plunge and I will actually be getting breast implants this thursday! I have been self-conscious for years, and now that weight training is a big part of my life, its been more apparent then ever towards my self-esteem and my "little girls"
my question is (more of a concern) as to how my recovery will affect my recent muscle gains and strength from weight lifting... I've been told to stay out of the gym for about 3 weeks, and I get anxious from being out of the gym for 3 days! I would just like to hear from other women who have gotten implants how the recovery went and if there was any fat gain/muscle loss
thanks in advanced! :)

I do not agree with this, especially if you're very athletic.
I went smaller than I originally was going to because my doc told me at my small stature and my activity level I would be unhappy. I wanted a D (400cc) but ended up with a C (330cc) and I couldn't be happier. I can do everything I want to do, make them huge with cleavage if I want, but still be able to wear size small shirts. My friend who is the same size got 450cc and she is forever having problems finding clothes that fit her big chest and flat stomach...she ends up having to wear all spandex-stretchy shirts. Oh and she looks fatter than she really is!

I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back at work on Monday. I'm a medical assistant in a private doctors office so it's not very physical, I bring patients back and take their vitals, that's about it. I did have some trouble lifting my arms above my head for about a week and had no upper body strength for about two weeks. If your job doesn't require a lot of physical activity, I think a week will be plenty of time.

My surgery was over 5 years ago, so I'm trying to remember, but I think I started light cardio, like moderate walking, after 3 weeks and light weights after 6 weeks. I was so worried about getting sweat into the incisions and "popping" the implants, haha, that I think I was overly cautious. But your doctor will definitely tell you when you can resume all your normal activities.
As for scarring... I notice it but my bf says it's not that noticable. I have the silicone gummy implants and the surgeon went in through the areola. If you picture the areola as a clock, my incision is from 9 to 3. He said he did it on the top half because he also did a little lift. I have a friend that had her incision under the breast fold, and since she got saline, they rolled up the empty implant the slid it in, then filled them up, so you can't even see any scar on her at all.

but honestly, small boobs aren't such a bad thing if you're fit. most fit people don't have the genetics to have big ones without being fat.
I have a (somewhat) embarrassing question about breast implants... How much pressure can you put on them? I have a partner who is very fond of, ahem, squeezing, pulling, generally playing with my boobies. I realise that he won't be able to do this while I'm in recovery, of course, but down the track will he be able to do this? What about a partner or child resting their head on your chest like a pillow? I have no idea what firmness/texture to compare it to!

Implants are very strong. There is a video clip on youtube showing an implant being snapped by a mouse trap & it did absolutely no damage.

If mine fall after kids I'm so for it, just because of the discomfort that will be associated with hanging skin. Obviously men don't think of it that way. I'd just go to my natural size and be done with it.

I had mine OTM 330cc (textured/silicon) done 4 years ago. This took me from a 32A to 32DD. I decided on OTM since I did not want anything to interfere with my lifting and was literally back in the gym doing cardio 2 days later (not saying that was the smartest thing to do) and back lifting in 2 weeks.
While it has been a good experience, if I had it to do over I think I would have stayed the way I was... It's just not that important to me anymore. I find I actually like the "flat" athletic look now. :) Also, at some point I will need to get them redone (if I keep them) and as I get older, bleh IDK if I want to go through the hassle and have perky boobs when they don't really fit the rest of my aging body. Being that I was so flat, when they are removed I will have visible scars which I am not too excited about.

I had mine done 10 years ago - before 3 kids. Cohesive gel over the muscle... went from 10AA to 10D. Now, kids are rough on your body!!!! Only breastfed each for a couple of months, but they are always on your chest, squeezing, headbutting, climbing over your boobs and more....lol! My surgeon told me rupture happens with big impacts like car crashes..... and I have had no problem with mine... and zero sagging after 10 years, 3 pregnancies and lots of weight gains and loss......
Hope that helps!

I got them 12 yrs ago when I was 18. I told them I wanted to be a full C but they told me not to pay attention to actual size. They had me try on a few different sizes & that's how I chose. It ended up being a DD. Since Im tall it wasnt as noticeable that they were so big & as the yrs have gone by it has slowly gone up. I have to say I've regretted going so big. It is so hard to find bras that are big enough in the cup & small enough around. Im sure clothing makers think the only women with big breasts are big around too. Shirts & dresses are also a super big pain to find & you can forget about finding a button up shirt unless you want to buy a large & have it tailored

I got them a year ago, still working on doing pushups on my feet again instead of my hands, but I wouldnt change it for the world! You just need a high impact support bra and you'll be workout ready! They don't get in the way during kickboxing classes. I do take it easy on bench press or other chest excersises, doctors orders. I did get the saline ones, under the muscle. Supposedly a little more painful but I think they look great! Check out my progress pics on my profile! Oh yeah, scars under armpits, can't event see them!

Doctors told me the same thing!! Still do pushups- on my knees and the occasional dumbbell chest flies with 10lbs, mostly to stretch out the muscle that gets tight sometimes! Good to know your story!

notice thread in here. just thought i'd give my 2 cents.
my girlfriend got implants last december, over the muscle. she was an A cup, paid $5k for big C's. well basically they are D's. she loves them, i love them. she is better shaped now and isn't complaing about having no boobs. but for those wanting them, i'll just tell you her and i did a lot of research and make sure you find a good doctor.
as far as pain. she was sore for about 4 days. but her friend who had them under the muscle was sore for about 10 days i think.
this is good to know.
i am tiny. only 34A and want to get them. But i also really want to compete and build more muscle. I'm only 5'3" and don't want to look ridiculous so I'm contemplating what size would be best.

I got implants almost 2 years ago. I started with a 32A (real RC 28in) now I wear a 32D, but look like a C cup. Implants fit bra's differently since they do not squeeze into bra's like a real breast. I travelled to FL, USA from Canada to get them done by a well known doctor and ended up being 5k, from 11k+taxes, compared to prices where I live. They move naturally, and feel soft and most men think they are real. I got silicone 325 mod plus profile unders.
My PS told me, if you started off from no fat/little fat on the breast and you want a natural feel and look, to go with silicone, while on the other hand if you want the implant to look more "fake", or hold its round shape to go with saline. It does feel harder but reqs a smaller cut. As well as either implant you go with, its better to go with unders as there are less risks. Depending on the look, size and feel you are going consider the cons and pros for each implant, profile, and whether under/overs suit you.
edit, Im going to add if you work out often, its better to go with overs due to the muscle tension. The girls I work with, who have unders that use a lot upper strength work their implants got pressure into a harder round shape due to the "pocket space" being tighten up... the doctor creates a pocket where the implant goes into, the more space the more room the implant has to move around, slope, bounce, feel natural etc, when that pocket is made smaller, or when the implane (saline) gets over-filled or when the chest muscles begin building, the implant has less space to move around, where the muscle surrarounds the implant creating that round stiff look. When getting overs it allows the implant to move more compared to unders
