View Full Version : Survivorman Show?
Has anyone seen these shows on the science channel or on the outdoor network in canada?
I have the whole first season on my hd, and just watched all the episodes...truly a great show.
survivor man and man vs. wild are a couple of my fav shows
Definetly a cool watch but i can't help but feeling cheated after most episodes. His deal is surviving in the wild but really he just does enough to survive until seven days is up. When he gets picked up I can't help but think "Good thing they found him. He was on the edge of death." It did get better when they started making him find his own way out.
Just my opinion.

yea, but thats ususally why they have a first season, (AKA... the learning season) its where they can make all there mistakes and learn from it. that way they know what to do, and what not to do the next season.
oh, glad theres gonna be a new season of survivor man coming out soon
favorites of mine being 'Lost at Sea' and the 'Canadian Arctic'

i like that and man vs wild. both are great and have their advantages. i give the survivorman guy a lot of respect because he carries all of his film gear, and hikes a bunch, just to set up the shot, hikes back, and films the shot. he has to cover 3x as much ground some times. the dude from man vs wild is just effin crazy though. i like how man vs wild guy actually does stuff like jump into frozen lakes just to show how to get out, and bite live fish heads off.

Yeah I love those shows, the other day on "Man Vs Wild" he jumped in quicksand just to show how to get out of it haha. He got sucked in up to his chest and it took him a while to get out, pretty interesting.

Man vs. Wild seems more set up and planned out....like when he jumped into the river from the 70 ft. cliff. No one would do it unless they were getting chased by a real bear or something....You know they checked if it was deep enough for him to jump off before he actually did.

Two of my favorite shows. When is the new season of Survivorman coming out?
I respect Les more than Bear though, simply because he does it alone. Either show, I always enjoy watching it. Even reruns.

Which is why Man Vs Wild is better IMO. Bear is one crazy mofo.

Man Vs Wild takes a lot more criticism in the survival community. However, that is my favorite show of the two. It seems like he tries to go out of his way to show you what to do in really bad situations. I also think he's a better host.

He can go out of his way because he is in less immediate danger. If he is f'd at any point, he has a crew to help him. Les cant do that stuff, because if he did, he probably would end up dieing. It seems like Les struggles a lot more when it comes to the final couple days.

^^^ both great shows. last i heard, they're currently shooting the second season of Survivorman.
Anyone watch Mantracker (http://www.mantracker.ca/)?
If you like Man Vs Wild and Survivorman, you'll probably like this one. It follows a team of 2 who try and make their way to a finish line before they get found by the Mantracker. The teams have a map, gear, a destination and a deadline. The Mantracker has a local guide, horse and experience. The first season put two strangers together while the second season has teams who are already acquainted with each other.
I believe they're shooting the second season now too. They also take applications to be on the show. My girlfriend and I never got ours submitted in time :(

yep, i'd recommend it. it was neat to see two strangers work together but this season, having two people who know each other, will be very cool to see. there were a few teams to beat Mantracker last season and i expect more this time around.

Yes, but Bear does this stuff to show you techniques on how to survive if you are lost and it actually happens to you (More useful).
Also he gets himself out of the situation instead of waiting on rescue.

I like man vs. wild because it seems like survivorman always finds or has everything he needs to do something.

whats the prize/consequence?

no what he does is realistic. he always has some sort of situation like hes in a plane crash or rafting accident or whatever, and shows you how you can use what you have to survive. most of survival is just using your head and improvising. in all reality any good/smart outdoorsman would have a lot of the essentials on them making improvisation less of a necessity. the key is finding the right balance of having things youll need, but not having so much its a bitch to carry. as they say, "if everybody carried everything they would ever need, nobody would get into trouble because they wouldnt go anywhere."
