I recently started a new job about a mile from my house, and I don't have a car or even a bicycle, so I'll be walking every day. I'm wondering...should I consider walking 2 extra miles/day as extra energy expenditure for the day and put me in a greater deficit?
OR
Is walking distances like this already "included" in my BRM...and not really count as "cardio"?
[Either way, I'll still be doing my 2-a-days :) I'm not trying to use walking to work as an excuse to skip cardio. It's more a question of what exactly a BMR entails, I guess...]
--edit--
Bonus question:
Walking 2 extra miles/day won't be "catabolic" at all...will it?

Just watch the scale.....if you start dropping too much, add food back in. But the energy it takes to walk two miles is relatively small.....maybe 250 calories.
Is walking "catabolic"? Well, what is your definition of catabolic? Dieting in general is catabolic. THats how you get lean. So....yea....walking in a calorie deficit is catabolic. But that matters little. As long as your overall energy balance for the day is within range that allows for ample recovery, you wont be losing excessive muscle tissue. Just watch the scale.

If your asking whether walking will "burn muscle", then no. Your overall diet is what matters in the end of the day and it is what determines your body composition.

Walk to work. Feel good about it. Consider yourself blessed you don't have to commute and eat a couple more bananas during the week.
