Didn't know where to post it, but it is technically "equipment" I use for tanning so i decided the equipment forum. Here's what I came up with. PVC pipe and screen netting, just lift it up and hop in, no bees. 100 dollars.

EDIT, cause someone asked why, I live way out in the country and it isn't uncommon for 5-6 wasps or yellow jackets to hang around my porch when the whether is hot.

I don't tan but if I did I don't think I would use this even if I was allergic to bees. They don't go around stinging people for no reason so if you are just lounging around soaking up the rays there is nothing to worry about.

I live way out in the country and it isn't uncommon for 5-6 wasps or yellow jackets to hang around my porch when the whether is hot. I don't mind bees if I am moving, and I am not allergic at all. However I wanted to chill for a half hour or so or take a short nap with an alarm, I don't care for bees buzzing on my ear. And yes that has happened, several times. No stings yet, but irritating as heck. I can't hear approaching bees when I am listening to my iPod. Going from a tranquil sedation to alert makes tanning rather unpleasant.

Better to stop frying yourself. And aquiring bug netting to do so...I'm a bit biased as having recently seen a friend pass away from skin cancer. Not pleasant.

For half the price you could have just bought a cheap tent with a seperate mosquito net, and just used the net.

No joke, I work outside for 8 hours a day causing a bad farmers tan, I do whole body tans 15 minutes to make it look not so stupid when wearing shorts (bleach legs and dark arms looks silly in shorts.) As far as cancer goes, the 8 hours a day outside will kill me long before the tan. As far as mosquito nets, I didn't feel like driving another 30 minutes back and forth to buy one, and I can use this frame for various other things then just tanning, that and it's easy to break down and store the way I crafted it, just stick all the pipes in a bucket :) The screen folds up real nice too, that and the screen is more durable and wont tear (part of the reason I use it instead of netting.) More money = more durable = less replacement costs.

Also I like to try and be innovative, sometimes coming up with a homemade craft can be cross applied to other stuff.

FWIW, I agree with those who have warned him about the danger of sun exposure. But I also think it's cool that he found a DIY way to keep stinging insects away.

Ack this thread is a mess, Just thought I had an idea that was creative. Lots of hardware stores in the country and not much else so it's either this or a long drive to a mall.

The name is because coworkers, friends and such would deny to my face the "twinkie diet" as internet myth. I consequently showed them the power of grade school math and a calculator with IIFYM via a high sugar diet (I lost about 40 lbs or so.) They still insist that I am less healthy then them, even though I got rid of joint pain, B.O., uncomfortable daily tasks like fitting between tight objects, don't get as winded when I exercise, and oddly enough saved money cause my shoes don't wear out as fast and I saved money by just simply eating less.

Most bees in AZ are now Africanized. They don't even bother with testing anymore when an aggressive hive attacks someone.

I have heard that seven stings per pound of bodyweight is usually lethal.

Some people I hike with worry about being bitten by a snake. Not me. I'm more worried about bees, especially when I'm hiking a seldom used trail or doing an approach to a climbing area.

I was out mountain biking with my son one day when we were suddenly engulfed by a swarm of bees. We saw a big cloud of them coming, but weren't able to move far enough in time to avoid the swarm. Neither of us got stung, but it was scary. (They weren't protecting their hive; they were protecting their queen, whom they were escorting to a new location. So long as we didn't threaten her, they didn't care about us - that time anyway.)

OT.... what is the story behind the pic of this trainwreck? I've seen it one other time, but I haven't come across the story.

Other than taking the kid into the tanning bed with her, and being made fun of for being too dark, I don't think much has been said. I'm quite surprised that no one has questioned how she got that dark. It is hard to believe she did this by just using a tanning bed. I suspect some chemical manipulation.
