I don't mean to make a redundant post, as there are a lot of these, but I'm having a hard time finding a solid answer.

Separated the AC joint in mid-December, got it x-rayed twice, both times was told it was "minor" and likely no actual tear, just a sprain. This didn't click with me as I had a pretty significant bump to start. Anywho I gave it off (just working out core/legs) 'til March 1st and decided to hit chest. A little weak but felt fine at first until I hit a point where my chest would struggle and the shoulder would "kick-in" and start to hurt. So I stopped, and felt pretty bad pain after that. I've tried working out back and stuff and it doesn't hurt so bad WHILE I work-out but it will hurt like a bitch the days following. It hurts if I run. It hurts when I hike. Any lifting hurts, putting on a shirt hurts. This isn't severe pain by any means but it's nagging and definitely does not feel "right". I can't even workout arms even while keeping my shoulder completely isolated out.

This is almost 4 months out. From a "supposed" grade 1 separation it looks to me like it shouldn't take longer than a month. I waited well over 2 to even do anything at all with it. I even took every supplement I could (animal flex, cissus, joint force) that I'm not too sure helped much at all. I want to be able to surf, skate, and workout my damn upper body again without this pain. I'm just looking for experience from somebody who was in a similar situation. Will it go away, or should I start looking into surgery?

If it hurts when you run, it could be a trigger point. Hold on, there's a thread here that helped someone a lot.

Got it.

Read this, give it a go, and reply back to me.

As much as I'd like to believe it as just that, it's not. There's no mention of acute injuries on that post, and the area of pain is different than mine. Mine definitely hurts where the ligament is at.

Although, nonetheless, that is very valuable information and I'm glad I read it. I'm just looking for something else.

get a mri done if you can. i fell and hurt what i thought was my shouldeer/rotator cuff in november. My PT just did an x-ray and said nothing was wrong and she was trying to treat the rotator cuff. Just got an MRI last monday and it said that i have minor arthosis in my ac joint so those 6 months of trying to fix the rotator cuff was a waste cause it wasn't even the problem.

What would that do though? I talked to my main doctor about getting an MRI and he said it wasn't necessary. I'm (and they are) aware that it is ligament damage in the AC joint. I just don't know if this **** is going to heal on it's own or if I should pursue surgery. I refuse to live my life not being able to do heavy dips or bench without bad pain.
